Jantare ; Go for it. When you drive it then you will feel the beauty of driving, not Japanese car will give you that feeling.
The life of the car depends on who drove it and his attitude towards the car I mean if that car is driven by us ( Nepali), you should not think about the wheels forget about the car. You know what I mean.
If driven by an adult and responsible person these car will last for 500-600 k miles easily. Have you heard about the Camaro driven by a Floridan Lady who drove over 1million miles. But there is some cost associated with it.
Go with the first 2001 i , you can bargian for 5500, do not hesitate to bargain. Learn the trade and tricks on buying used car.
Enjoy the ride.

Dude do you not check the consumer report before buying a car... how long have you been living in the US? Do your homework yourself ... there is this website called GOOGLE.com check it out and you will get your answers.

thanks gorkhe bro.
vyrus: i know a lot more about google than you and i know about all those reports and sfuffs alike. i was just asking for opinions of other people on which deal sounds like a good one. if you don't have one, don't try to be a smarta$$.

haha jantarei bro, why are you posting asking for suggestions on the first place. vyrus is simply offering you his suggestions to not buy a used bmw. I agree with vyrus, i would not go for a used BMW, if i were i would buy something that is 2-3 years old that way i am covered under warrenty. For me buying a used car is buying someone else's trouble. I always assume THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT (true 90% for time, 10% you get lucky). and if you have to repair BMW, good luck!!!!!
But sounds to me like you have already made up your mind to buy one.

thinking about, haven't made my mind yet.
i know that most of the used cars have one or more issues with them but still, people buy used cars don't they? and for a student like me, used cars are the ones to start with with because they are affordable. i'm not as rich as you to buy a BMW (or any other car) that's just 2-3 years old.
and my decision on which car to buy will not be based solely on suggestions of sajhaites, i'll do vin check, carfax, etc all that stuff plus take the car to a mechanic to make sure all major parts are in order before buying it.
thanks for taking time to input hareeb

Jantare, go for it. It is true that repair costs are little high but not that much too. But hey, they don't break down so easily. So it is a good investment. I drove a 1999 lexus for 5 plus years just changing oil, brakes and tires.... no problem at all. They are very reliable. BMW is more or less same as lexus... got power and extremely reliable...
