If we remember we had 18 hrs of load shedding when Maoist were on the government last year, During Gyanedra's Period there were maximum 3-5 hours of Load shedding, now we have 8 hrs of Load shedding until now...you know why?

1. there was large investment on inverter from Maoist side and they want to sell them badly.
2. they want to import Diesel Generators....which was later unsuccessful.

Hence they forcefully shut down few hydro powers and didn't even allowed any media to enter these hydro power. imagine a political party cutting off the basic needs for their benefit...imagine what else might they do and they are doing......

The Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-M) has asked India’s GMR-ITD Consortium to immediately stop work at the 300-MW Upper Karnali hydro project. Party’s Politburo member Khadka Bahadur Bishwakarma said it was his party’s policy not to let the project continue. He warned that any defiance by the consortium may invite serious consequences. “Anything can happen,”

The Sapta Kosi Multipurpose Project, which is expected to generate 3,300 MW of hydropower as well as irrigate wide swathes of land in India' Bihar state and parts of Nepal, has been ordered to stop by the Maoists. The former guerrillas have condemned it as being "against the interests of Nepal, Nepalis and especially the tribal and indigenous people of the area".

"We will stop work on the detailed project report till the people approve of the project," the party was quoted as saying by its mouthpiece, the Janadisha daily, Sunday.

According to the daily, the project is also being opposed by several ethnic groups, including the Kirat Yakthung Chumlung and Kirat Rai Yayokkha.

On Saturday night, a team of local Maoist cadre, led by their central committee member Prahlad Budathoki, went to eastern Nepal, where an official team has begun work on the detailed project report (DPR), asking them to stop.

Ministry of Commerce And Supplies has published a very important notice titled ‘Forbidding Import of inverter/Home UPS’ in the state-run newspaper called ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 11, 2010. The notice states that the Ministry of Energy has requested the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies for stopping the import of inverter/Home UPS in view of the rise in demand for power beyond the capacity of supplying due to the use of inverter/home UPS.

Only the government headed by the man defeated in two constituencies and not accountable to the people could make such an anti-people decision. This government must be forbidding import of inverter/home UPS only to increase the import of these appliances through a parallel market bypassing the custom offices. Possibly, these concerned government officials must have a secret deal with the businesspersons engaged in a parallel market to take the advantage of short supply of power and then making the short supply ofinverter/home UPS so that they can charge high prices for inverter/home UPS in a parallel market. This government has done the same thing concerning the supply of sugar, lintels and rice for making money.

Bush got trillions of dollars for going into war from the ammunition company. He invaded Iraq for oil. He has an oil company in Florida. This has been happening in politics everywhere. It is a smart way for bribery and corruption.

Target and Acheivement during 9th Plan
Apparently encouraged by the achievement of target of ninth five year plan, it was targeted to add 314 MW to the system in tenth five year plan period. However, the achievement was 39.71 MW only as detailed below:
Table 11
Target and Acheivement during 10th Plan
so...see for your self the target and achievement difference....we started to face load shedding from 2006

Nepal Maoist obstruct Upper Marsyangdi Hydro Power Project

TGW

It was the turn of Upper Marsyangdi -II to be obstructed by the Unified Maoists party after Mid-Marsyangdi Power Project, claiming first the project had Indian funding and secondly, the project was not in the benefit of the local population.

The Indian company GMR holds 80 percent stake in the Himtal Hydropower Company that was awarded with the right to prepare DPR (Detailed Project Report) of the Upper Marsyangdi -II one and half years back by the government.

The Upper Marsyangdi -II 600 MW Hydro Power Project is located in the district of Lamjung.

A group of Unified Maoist Party cadres led by CA members Amar Tanu and Buddhiram Tamu all of a sudden landed at the project site and declared that the project will be closed beginning Tuesday, say reports.

“We have shutdown the project as per the policy adopted by central leadership”, said Amar Tamu.

Under one pretext or the other, the Maoists have been threatening to obstruct all Hydro-Power Projects that have the Indian funding.

UPPER KARNALI in Dailekh district going to be constructed by GMR-India, ARUN-III in Sankhuwasabha awarded to Sutlej-India and West Seti to be constructed by CIMEC-Australia, co-owned by one Indian company, have been threatened to close down by the Maoists Party.

Construction works of undergoing Mid-Marsyangdi Hydropower Project has come to a halt from today. The construction works was halted for indefinite period as fuel import was obstructed due to strike in Terai.

Project contractor DDC JV said the construction works were halted due to unavailability of fuel needed to operate the construction works. Issuing a notice, the contractor announced indefinite halt of all the construction works of the project.

Much-awaited 70 MW Mid-Marsyangdi needs some 20 thousand litres of petroleum products daily for the construction works. About 97 percent of the construction works have been completed so far.

Nepal Electricity Authority said it faces daily loss of Rs. two million if construction works go halted in the project. Started in 2001, the construction of the project was expected to finished in 2004. However, frequent obstruction for various reasons has pushed the project face double expenditure than that was estimated.

Repeated obstruction in the construction works has already doubled the project cost from Rs. 13 billion to Rs. 26 billion.

Maoists driving Nepal towards hydro disaster

New Zealand News.Net
Thursday 30th September, 2010 (IANS)

Set to generate about 6,500 MW of additional hydropower from 2016 onwards, Nepal is facing the spectre of generation but no buyer, thanks to the obstructive policy announced by its largest party, the Maoists.

The Maoists, now sitting in opposition, have announced their resistance to 14 hydropower companies that would be able to generate about 6,500 MW additional power, with most having Indian investment.

A main reason given by the former guerrillas is the current power scarcity in Nepal, which has seen power outages go up to nearly 20 hours daily during the dry season.

However, power producers say Nepal currently requires about 800 MW of power. Of this, nearly 635 MW is generated domestically while about 70-80 MW is imported from India. About 50 MW comes from thermal plants.

In the next few years, even if the domestic power consumption goes up exponentially, it will still not have the potential to utilise the additional power generated by new projects.

Indian companies investing in Nepal's hydropower projects are regarded by the Maoists as having obtained the deals by arm-twisting the government in order to sell the power generated to India at the expense of Nepal's industries.

But the truth is that most of the projects were allocated on the basis of competitive bidding. Two of them - the 900 MW Upper Karnali awarded to a consortium led by India's GMR Group and the 402 MW Arun III to be developed by India's public sector Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam - were approved by the cabinet when the Maoists were part of the ruling coalition and subsequently, were endorsed by the appropriate parliamentary committee.

During the brief government headed by the Maoists, their chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda himself courted Indian investors for hydropower projects during his visit to India and the Maoist power policy envisioned generating 10,000 MW by 2018.

Hydropower companies say it is more lucrative for them to sell power in Nepal and they would be more than willing to do so if there was a buyer.

A company developing a hydel project for domestic consumption has to pay lower royalty to the government. Moreover, it has a 35-year period to run the project before handing it over to the Nepal government whereas companies generating power for export are given a licence for 30 years.

Currently, Nepal is going through its worst economic crisis with trade deficit soaring by 41.5 percent to NRS 314.66 billion.

According to the Trade and Export Promotion Centre under the ministry of commerce and supplies, imports in the last fiscal grew by over 29 percent to NRS 375.6 billion while exports fell by 11 percent.

Nepal's two biggest export items currently are polyester and other fibres, followed by carpets. However, with its rivers capable of producing nearly 42,000 MW, power could become the biggest export commodity, boosting the economy.

Ironically, some of the hydropower projects that could have helped perk up the economy have not been able to get off the ground due to politically motivated protests.

The 750 MW West Seti Hydropower Project was awarded to Australia's Snowy Mountain Engineering Corporation in 1997.

However, more than a decade later, it is yet to be up and running due to obstruction.

After the fresh Maoist opposition triggered widespread condemnation by Nepal's government, power producers and the media, the former rebels changed their tune, saying the threats were issued by local-level leaders.

However, this has become the standard excuse trotted out by the leadership every time the party faces criticism due to anarchical acts. Investors feel either the leadership is lying or it is fast losing control over its cadre.

The Maoist action has also been scaring away financial institutions with banks wary of lending capital

The Maoist, during the insurgency, destroyed infrastructure, including projects of hydro-power, irrigation projects, radio stations, television, suspension-bridges and telephone towers. So, the poor Nepalese people are still in painful. Then, why and whom the Maoists are showing the drama in the world. We thought, the Maoist may be political party to save the prestige of Nepalese people but the Maoists could not do for the benefits of the people. Without vision and political honesty no one can move the nation. Now the Maoists are confused and they are manifesting a double standard for power. We, Nepalese people are suffering from the notorious activities of
Nepalese traitors as well as UNMIN. The main cause of the crisis in Nepal is UNMIN, because the UNMIN listens only to the Maoist rebels and the corrupt leaders of Congress, UML and Maoist leaders. Nowhere in the world, would a country be able to protect its sovereignty by making the national army weak and powerless? The national army can't compare with Maoist's army. Due to the suspicious activities of UNMIN, now, in Nepal, we have two kinds of army- the national army and the Maoist's army. Can we imagine two kinds of army in a country? Why UNMIN, now, is not responsible for the overall management and supervision of Maoist army and their movement?

Anything goes wrong ends up with money.

It will be worst than Bihar, at least Laalu has kept a little bit  law and order.
From government employee and politicians to Nepali janata they know where and how to cheat. This has completed a circle and it thrust automatically one point to another and never end.

There are individual citizens of this country who are launching very, very small “solar power plants” on their rooftops, each contributing anywhere from 200-watt to 1/2 kilowatt of Renewable Alternative Solar Energy to alleviate our country’s load-shedding problem. While these individual contributions may seem small, one needs to remember that “Little Drops Create Ocean”.

400 megawatt means if 8,00,000 (8 lakh) citizens install a 1/2 kilowatt solar, they will produce enough electricity to completely get rid of current load-shedding problem.
