Out of all the sajha ko dashain pix I have sen this year..I really loved the Arkansas one. I guess it reminds me of the time back home when Dashain was exactly like that..friend/family..games...feast. To those nepali in Arkansas...your Dashain rocks! BTW...bichara khaasi :(

It was dull as opposed to the big city I am in right now, but still there was intimacy in that dull environment. Thats what I was trying to say.

Thanks ppl! It is always nice to get good responses. If we could, we are trying to set a trend to have a similar kind of Dashain celebration every year. All Nepalese brothers and sisters could join us if they had spare time to see Arkansas and celebrate at the same time. Mr. Reynolds(the host)he host family's enthusiasm to know Nepalese culture and people was appreciative. It was also a very nice thing to be offered the place, and the goats of course(they donated the goats). Dr. Dykema was simply great. We appreciate all of you for the responses.

newlynew, M. Reynolds owns a forestry business. That was his domesticated animal and we carried out our program in a house, not in public. Also Mr. Reynolds had his hunting license and we were all aware of the legal formalities. Won't even be questioned unless u report it!

Hey magnolia_nepalese, Seems like you guys enjoyed a lot. I was looking at the pictures and a girl in the picture looks like a relative of mine. She was still in school when I left Nepal. My uncle came to see me a month ago and he told me she came to Arkansas this fall. She is my phuphu's daughter. Her house is at Basundhara and her last name should be Tamang, may be she writes Hyonjan. Can you find out and let me know if she is the one. My email is nepaliwildlife@hotmail.com Thanks.

palpali, i lived in kansas for 6 years and in wichita for 4 years. i am no longer there but wichita is a city of 350,000 people. the state university and community colleges - 2 of them, have a sizeable number of nepali students. my guess is that wichita has about 100 nepalis.

Arkansas ko Dashain ko photo haru maile pani hereko thie. It does look entirely different from a "typical" celebration in bigger cities. It kind of reminded me of the way we celebrated here until a few years ago when the Nepali community was much smaller. It seemed as if the entire Magnolia Nepali community was a closely knit family. The gathering looked very casual and everyone was haing fun working as a team. Sabai jana milijuli khasi kaateko, pakaeko, kheleko, naacheko etc. It was a nice touch to receive tika from someone senior to everyone there (my guess is he must be a Nepal/Nepali-premi American professor). Most of the girls were beautiful too :)
