Aljhiyeko raat A bad dream woke her up. Short August night had already matured but dawn was still far away. She could hear light rain was falling outside. It was raining since last evening. "ajhai paani pari ra re chha" she said to herself. Her son, Anil, was a nightmare for her. Anil in his pursuit of being a feared boy of the neighborhood was picking up all the actions she deeply detested. Throwing an inclusive look at the darkness-seized ceiling she wandered on her thoughts for a few moments then got up. She gloomily wondered if Anil is still in his room or already sneaked out for the night venture. *Sadhe tin baje ta paani aaucha* this routine, although uncalled for, quickly crossed her mind. She, then, came down to check the status of her notorious son. There was a small horizontal window above Anilýs room and when she casually peeked through there she encountered something that almost challenged her consciousness. There was a deadly and extremely violent looking skeleton dancing on the wall. The fierce looking skeleton appeared to have been snatching some flesh from its blood-soaked hands, and blood also seemed to be dripping from its glowing red eyes. Luckily, it was not looking at her. Then she saw another terror- provoking skeleton-faced creature calmly sleeping just next to her son, Anil. She completely froze in fear. Before she could recollect herself to scream or move, the skeleton, which was sleeping with her son, moved. She ran up to her bedroom as soon as and as quietly as she could. She wildly shook her husband, who was vacationing in his dreamland after a day of hard work. "shhhhhhh" vertically holding her index finger over her trembling lips, she whispered "launa!---Anilko kothama bhittama ragatpachhe bhako narakankal nachira chha ani arko chai sutirachha Anil sanga---" Anilko ba, also known as Mukundai, lai masta sanga nidayera sapanama oodira belama jhanglyang jhunglung garera oothako patakkai man pareko thiyena tyasmathi pani narakankal ko kura. Kolte ferdai he said, "timile sapanama dekhya hola---la la suta---ke ko narakankal aauchhan yaha ghar ma---tyo pani daju bhai nai chhan rey? " "aafu chai dar le pasina pasina bhai sake---hajur chai---chhito uthsyos" Anil's mom sounded really worried. She swore by all the handy gods and goddesses to testify what she saw was for real. She flipped on the switch on the side of their bed and a dark red zero-watt bulb lit the room. Batti takiyale chhekera arko euta kolte ferdai Mukundai said, " feri narakankal sangai sutnelai dar lagya chhaina, timilai chai ke ko dar ta?" Alarmed by total silence challenged only by his wife's accelerated breathing Mukundai turned around to his wife only to meet her anger and fear raged eyes. Mukundai ko man ma ni aba halka chiso pasyo. He saw his wife badly shaken. Just then a loud bang tearing the silence of the night claimed the power. The room plunged into darkness. Narakankal rey? Mukundai did not like the sound of that word a bit. Daraye pani srimatiko agadi nadarako jasto gardai torch light bokera man man ma gayatri mantra japdai mukundai orliye bharyang. Anil ko kothako dhokamathi ko sano jhyal bata bhitra herya ta Anil eklai fwa fwa sutirako re chha--- narakankal ko atto patto thiyena. *** After a long day of trivial ups and downs, Naresh entered his house at the wrong moment. "dinbhar kaha baraliyera aako huh ta?" his uncle asked. The question was so vague and regular that Naresh did not feel like answering but almost immediately his uncle threw another order at him "chini sakiyo, Bisne went all over the place but couldn't find even a pau---go get some sugar from somewhere.." Naresh rannna bho ris le. "Din bhar hallera thakera bharkhar ta gharma aaudai chhu---" Naresh wanted to hose down the sugar-fetching order but then he thought what's the point? Without saying a word he went upstairs. His mom repeated the same question about his whereabouts the whole day and restated that chini lyaune order albeit in much sweeter tone compare to that of his uncle. This time, Naresh sensing the moment vulnerable enough for compromise, expressed his consideration as a bargain "euta ledar ko jyaket kindinuna bhanda chai sunya nasunei garni ahile yo aadha raata ma chini sini khojna jana sakdina ma". Aadha raat ta tyastai ustai ho--the evening was gradually making room for descending night to settle in. kramasa:

Ledar nabhaye ni bhitra bhuwa bhako jean jyaket paune jhino aashalai sakdo oochai ma puryaudai Naresh niskiyo ghar bata daine tira chibahal pardai. He walked so confidently through that narrow, dark, and littered galli as if he was taking a walk on that stretch of road between Singh durbar and Bhadrakali. Came out and made a left turn onto the grand main artery or thoroughfare of hadigaun then headed northbound toward Bhuteswor. Bekhalal ka chhoriharulai ni nachinya ta kaha hora? So he first stopped at Bekhalalýs pasal/house thinking yahi chini paiyo bhane ta jhanjhatai khattam. As he was about to ask for one of Bekha sahuýs daughters, haku cha chhyaka who was leaning against one of those empty mattitel ka dadam (drum) asked *kallai khojya?ý Chini napaune rog lagya thyo teti bela. *timro maasu khani alikati pani chini chhaina ý bhanera taari Bekhaki taruni chhorile. Chini napaye ni tyo taruniko kasseko jyanlai ryal chuhunjel herera bato lagyo naresh Kisna mandir tira. Without blinking his eyes, he glanced at Bhuteswor, Kisna mandir under that huge peepal tree and few other temples and shrines scattered around and did one blanket darshan to cover them all. Daine tira ganesh pardai oralo orliyo Naresh bro ani dhunge dhara bata arko daine curve liyera haniyo Naresh dhobikhola faant tira Chabel jane bicharma. There in chabel tyo maijubahal jane batama one of his friends had a pasal. Naresh knew he can get something there. Not that many houses were there on those faants then. Khola tari sakera ek chhin hine pachhi aauthyo tyo bhatkya pool. Bulbule dekhi liyera tyo newar jalaune dhisko bhaye tira sammaka ghar haruma batti baleka thiye. Eutale tyo manchhe jalaune dhiskai sangai tasera ghar banako dekhera Nareshko jyan siring bho *kasto rachhhes re chha---masanmai ghar banara baseko ye--* the thought. Tyaha dekhiko ukalo chabel ganeshthan ma pugera sakiyo. Mandir bata debre modiyera chabel chowk katera binayak studio aaunu aghinai bato katyo Nareshle ra takyo tyai maijubahal jane batako pasal. Pasalma kohi nabhako mauka parera Naresh asked for some chini. Paila ta chhaina bhanyo dhurbe le pachhi ek chhin kich kich gare si basi rakh bhanyo. Pasal pachhadi bolayera la yatti ho bhanera dui kg chini dyo ani Budhbar aaija aru diula ni bhanyo. Nare left the pasal and headed back home. At least, ritto hath ta farkinu parena bhandai. Right after he crossed the chabel chowk [before approaching Charu medical hall --tyo sau ko pasal kasto settai thyo ganthe! Anyway--] his eyes caught something being displayed for sale on one of the pasals on his left side. Carefully watching all the choices he picked one. He hid what he had just purchased under his shirt and kept on walking with a wicked smile. He had a plan ----

---- The mask he bought was terribly a scary one. Bhirab nath rimal ýkadamý ko ghar nera pugda he saw a couple of women walking uphill toward him. He decided to put the mask to test. The lady who saw him first screamed her lung out and ran back down, the other lady who was much older than Naresh thought just dropped silently on the road like a sack of potato. Naresh quickly took his mask off. He was worried---manchhe le samatera hamro tolma aaimai tarsaune tai haina bhanera dana dan diye bhane? He walked as quickly as possibleýmask lai shirt bhitra lukayera. Tala kholalo faant ma aayera farkera hereko ta noone was chasing him. Taba po uslai saas aayo. He smiledýmask ta khatarako kineko ho maile bhandai. Gharma pugera bhat khaisake pachhi, he came to his room. He kept on staring at the mask for a minute. Afailai pani dar dar lagya jasto bho uslai. Then he quickly got out with the mask. Anilko ghar pachhadi bisale ra tyasko kakako ghar thyo. Bisaleko jhyal bahira gayera, he knocked on the window and put his mask on. Tyasko bainile po jhyal kholiýthen Ammmmaaaaaa! Bhanera chichyadai she disappered. Ek chhin ho halla bho. After about half an hour, Naresh went to Bishale ko kakako ghar tira and knocked on his grandmaýs window. Aamaile jhyal kholya matrai ke thin mask dekhera raam raam raaam bhandai dangrangai. Naresh quickly disappeared. *Aamai ta sita ram bhain ki ke ho?* man ma chiso pasyo Nareshko. Gharma aayera kan thado parera sutya jasto gari rahyo. Bahira halla khalla suniyena. Bholipalta ta byapak halla bhaisakya re chha raati khyak ra bhut aako bare. Sunaune le afno aru masala thapera sunauda sunauda Naresh nai chhakka parne gari aljhisakeko re chha kuro ta. He liked that. Anil ra Nareshko ghar jodiyeko thyo. He did not even tell Anil about his mask. Raati bhaye pachhi Naresh went to Anilýs house to show him his mask and reveal the bhut suspense. Mukundai aaipugya rahenchhan, the main entrance was closed but not locked He got in. Anilýs house was one those old jhigatiko chhana bhako house and his room was on the first floor. Dhoka bata bhitra chhinra saath Naresh put his mask on. Tyo talama aandhakar thyo mathlo talama batti balya thyo. Since Naresh knew where that kathko khudkila khudkila bhako bharyang was, he had no problem in getting there even in that dark with the mask on. Bharyangko pahilo khudkiloma pugnai ke lagya thyo mathi arko bharyang bata kohi orliyo. Anile hola, he thought and positioned him quite strategically in deadliest position-bharyang pachhadi ko khudkiloma jhundiyera. Bharyang sakinu bhannu nai Anile ko kotha ko dhoka aaunu thyo. Anil usko dhokama aaipugeko sochera Naresh le khudkiloko bich bata tauko nikalera kasto darlagdo swar nikalam bhanera sochya matra ke thyo Anil ko amale bharyang ka khudkilo ko bich bata tyasto bhayanak taukole chiyai raheko dekhin. Sato putlo udyo unko----tyai bhutko darle mukundai na.aaipuge pani dhoka launa aaudai garya re chhin---chichyaudai bharyan bata gultin. Bhut baneko Nareshko pani sato putlo udyo. Ek hath le mask thutera, Naresh niskiyo tyaha bata. Naresh couldnýt sleep well that night. Anilko aama lai khas kehi bhayenachh. But she was badly shaken up. Naresh tried to tell Anil about the mask the all day next day but he could not. Later at night, Naresh decided to take on Anil too. Since Anil and Naresh were best friends, Naresh knew Anil risaye pani things will be ok quickly. Naresh and Anil shared the same wall and had a few knocking patterns established to communicate. Naresh knocked on the wall twice, which meant are you there? Anil knocked back twice. Alikati mehanat garyo bhane Naresh afno jhyal bata Anilko jhyal ma jaana sakthyo. It probably was around 11 PM. Naresh quietly came out of his window with his mask on and tried to get on Anilýs side. Anil must have heard some movement outside so he came to his window to check that out. Anilko usko jhyal bahira patti mask lako Naresh sanga aakasmaat jamka bhet bho. ýAaye ma%$#@ ---chichyayera Anil battiyo kothako arko tira. Naresh enjoyed the moment and came back to his room. Naresh haseko sunyoAnil le uta patti. Bholi palta bihanai Anil came to Nareshýs room and got really mad at him for doing what Naresh was doing with the mask. Especially, he was mad for causing unnecessary tension to his mother. ýkoi heart attack bhe ra marya bhe ke garthis?ý Anil asked. sachhai! Naresh felt bad too. Tyai saajh Naresh and Anil were sitting on bhatkya pool. *I guess I should tell everybody, especially to your mother,* Naresh said. *Are you asking for some serious problems to chase you?* Smoking his second yak in 20 minutes Anil asked Naresh. So, what should I do? Naresh seemed really worried. A light cool breeze occasionally with some foul smell was wandering around. Naresh and Anil were sitting on one of the sattaris (wooden beams) of bhatkya pool over the dry embankment of dhobikhola. Filter nera pugnai lageko yak churos Anil ko hath bata liyera Nareshle dhit marne gari tanyo. Pich.cha thukera Anil le bhanyo "fyalde yai kholama---lyachhas haina bokera?" Neelo rangko shirt debre hath le bahira batai chhamdai Nareshle arko ek sarko churos tanera *chha * ma tauko hallayo. "Fyal de yahi and forget about it" Anil suggested. Few minutes later carefully scanning the surrounding, Naresh threw it on the water and saw it flowing southbound toward kaalo pool --paani ma chhachalkidai. Even then it looked really scary. Bholipalta raatiko bhat khaisake pachhi Anil said * bhare raati ma kaha aaja gaf saf garne ani ootai ma ka sutne--- ma dhoka khulai rakh dinchhu* . They frequently used to do that. Nareshýs uncle never liked Naresh hanging out with Anil. When Naresh made sure his uncle retreated in his room for the night, he quietly walked out and went to Anilýs house. Anil ko kothama chhireko matrai ke thyo, Naresh ta ek chhin lai khangrangai bho.----- last part post garna baki chha.----

Anil ko kothama chhireko matrai ke thyo, Naresh ta ek chhin lai khangrangai bho.----- When Naresh entered Anilýs room, he did not see Anil there but the first thing he saw was a deadly skeleton which appeared to be dancing on the south wall of Anilýs red-zero-watt-bulb lit room. The fierce looking skeleton appeared to be a highly violent one and was seen busy snatching some flesh from its blood-soaked hands. Blood drops could be seen dripping from its eyes. Before Naresh could think what he got into, with a violent sound he was pulled in the room. Naresh pasina pasina bhayoýmutu ta chhadi chhedera niklela jasto. Samhalinu agni nai Naresh saw Anil laughing at him. *yai khojya haina taile? Mask layera hamlai tarsauni? ----Naresh was wildly scared. *Arko kattu chahinchha? Taile lako ta su le nithrukka bho ho la ni---kaso?* Exploiting Nareshýs shaky but recovering senses Anil asked. *ke bho huh?* Anilýs mom asked from above hearing the scream. *kei nai kei* Anil carelessly replied. *Ani kina kara ta?* his mom asked again. *yattikai* Anil le ali jharkera bhanyo. Anil manchhe khattam bhe ni, he was a great painter. Din bhar layera kaalo kapadama darlagdo narkaknkal paint gare chha ra jhundaye chha bhittama--- jhyal bata aaune halka hawa, chhaya ra battiko special effect pani diyera kothai tarsaune banako re chha. Suruma halka risako jasto gare ni, pachhi Anil ra Naresh both enjoyed the game of terror and thought of making a plan ---kas kaslai kahile kahile tarsaune. Aadha raat ni bhaisakya hudo ho---it was raining outside. Aru ek chhin gaf thoke pachhi Anil said, *la malai ta jhyappa paryo---aba sutam---- Anil fell asleep pretty quicky. Anil ko kotha pachhiltira dood (traditional bhada majhneýchuthne thau) ko paani drain bhayera jane khaldo thyo --- Naresh could not sleep for a cultural-nach gaan- show, seemed exclusively- was staged for him. Naresh knew the singing and dancing program must have been the courtesy of that dood-khaldo that must have produced millions of god damn artists- the mosquitoes. Almost for every item, Naresh clapped the artists only to encourage them. Adhyaro ma lamkhutte tokera kata janthe kata Naresh afailai kahile khuttama kahile galama ani kahile hathma pit.tai yata ra oota garera saaskritik karyakramka kalakaar haruko hausala badhai rahyo nikkai ber samma. Nindra aayena. Ek chhin lamkhuttelai jaane jati sappai manpari sabdale gaali pani garyo but those damned mosquitoes cared less. Anile ta masta suti ra thyo nindarai ma pyatta pitta gardai suterai bhaye pani cultural show ma participate gardai thyo. Wakkai bhayera Naresh thought* bhayena afnai kothama gayera sutna paryo* He quietly got out of Aniilýs room and his house--- pushed the main gate of his house only to find it locked from inside. Damn! He came back to Anilýs room again. Bahira paani pari nai ra thyo. Sanskritik karyakram was still going on with full swing. Mukh samet chhopera sute ta lamkhuttele tonkne thiyenan tara ekkai chhinma garmi bhayera nissasseko jasto huniýodne bata mukh nikalyoýkanaima tuuuuiiiia garera whatzup bhandai galaime French kiss diyera hindini lamkhutteni harule tension garera hairan. Finally, Naresh came up with an idea of protecting his exposed face from the crazy lamkhutteniharu. He picked up a white thonga (kagajko jhola), tore holes for his eyes, nostrils, and mouth and covered his face and lied down. Oota mathi Anilýs mom woke with a bad dream.--- she came down to check the status of her notorious son, Anil. Naresh thought he heard some one out side. The deadly skeleton was still dancing on the wall. *Yo allachhina narakankalni yai lamkhutteharu lo geetma nachi ra hola* the shadow of hanging narakankal black-cloth was creating a special effect for that room. Naresh got irritated with it. Naresh stared the narakankal for a few seconds, and gradually got scared. Yo skeleton jagera aayo bhane! Naresh did not like the idea at all. So he got up and threw the skeleton painted kapada underneath the bed (khat). *La tantai khalas* he said to himself. He looked out from Anilýs room-just outside the room door. There was no one. ýsachhikai tarsauna layo ki kya ho huh yaha?ý I wondered. Just then a loud bang badly tore the silence of the night. No it was not thunder. For a second, Naresh almost passed out. Kotha aandhakar bhayo. He looked outside. *Padkyo thotro transformer feri* Naresh knew the reason behind the big bang. The whole neighborhood lost electricity. --- rest is below.

Your narration style is impeccable. One thing that amazes me is how can you come up with so many stories, yet all real. Will comment more when I am done reading the last part.

Truth is relative. Stories based on true incidents are often more fictional than those which are defined as fictional. Certainly, absolutely fictional stories are no more than imagination. Truth is a product of many variables. Fiction, no matter how extreme, cannot exist independent of existing truth. Anyway, an author is as successful as his/her readers are willing to share the flow the author creates. Sajha hosts many talented personalities. Now, who is who? Only readers know.

Deep, this might be the funniest of yours that I have read so far. I am sure you didn't want us to scare, by mixing that funny bit about Mosquito Cultural show in your thriller. I almost fell off laughing with the Whatzup line. Good one, keep it up. Had to read it in leasure to savor the fun in it. Didn't wanna do it in haste, how could I.

DWI, samayavle garda chahe jasari lehna sakiyena---and if I dont post what I write right after I am done writing (yes, just writing not editing or other polishing stuff), I start losing interest on it-the writing. I wanted to present this aljhiyeko raat with some different attitude and I even began that way but then I ran into extremely tight schedule that kept me from writing with the same attitude (you can see the drift in writing style after the first post). Neural, "..Chunky Pandey (duplicate)" yeah, I think I do remember him. Tyo dhisko ko kura pani lekhnu ta parne ho. Mauka ra fursad ko talmel mileko bela kotyaunu parla tyo dhisko lai pani. Tyo chabel chowk nerai kuna ma mathillo talama euta typing institute thyo ni---Shree kisna typing institute?---meri bassai tyo typing insitute ma feri nadhai bhat ruchdainthyo kunai bela afulai----type sype garna jani pani kaha ho ra feri? ---Ashiqui cinema ma tyo chwak kaali (tyati bela jo ni chwak lagni kina ho---) Anu Agrawal ni type garna janchhe ni hai ani I lauv u I lauv u type garchhe ni meri bassai chhat ma basera Rahul lai side handai---soche jasto ta kina hunthyo ra tara!
