I get it. We as Nepalese citizens have continuously been disappointed with our fate. The fate of being a landlocked country with less access to resources. The fate of being bullied by India. The fate of our political sufferings, and countless others. On the whole, we are constantly seeking for something to be proud of. Our upbringing, our culture, our religion all have hinted that we Nepalese are great people. We are supposed to be proud Nepalese. We are supposed to be blessed.
While all traditional, historical and ethnic sentiments point to a glorious state of existence, we are left seeking with concrete examples of such greatness. For lack of any worthy examples, we have been left finding solace in the great big hardened rock called Mount Everest which stands glorious on it's own without any Nepali person having anything to do with the greatness besides being born in Nepal. Another entity that we find solace in our greatness is the luck of being born in the same country as Lord Buddha who preached peace all over the world, yet we are prepared to be violent and fight those who even dare to question the birthplace of Buddha.
Yes, we are constantly seeking for that gratification of being Nepalese by finding an idol who we can look up to so we can say we also come from the same country. So that we can share some pride in someone else's achievement as our own since we have been void of such a celebration for so long.
We will do everything in our power to vote 100 times so that some Nepalese will win an international title and we can proudly enjoy the moment. We are an irony. We want to be proud of some unknown, unrelated person to be the winner so our name is known all over the world, yet we are well known for pulling legs, back biting and bringing our own friends and relatives down if they ever achieve anything.
Surprisingly, I have not seen any other people of other countries who want to be so proud of their country like the Nepalese! We are proud Nepalese! We love Nepal! Let's do everything possible to make Shrinkhala Win!!
PS: Just thinking out aloud. Don't take it too seriously!

neurologist, good write-up so i should be voting her or not . confused . so did you portrait yourself from your writing as well and while i am writing this, am i also doing the same - confusions one thing what i have found about nepali in general is that we are probably the most "relaxed" ppl in the world (j khayo majaley pachauchhau) - we dont have big ambitions or big dreams in general. most of the time we dont care about others even we do kura katne and such but whenever and whoever is in need we dont hesitate to give our everything to help. we may be far behind rest of the world but attitutude wise, we - "nepali" are far ahead. o btw, i purposedly used small case

You might be, but I don't think everyone thinks the same way. I'm sure as hell I wouldn't introduce myself as someone from a country where XYZ became Mr./Ms. universe/galaxy or whatever. I'd rather say I'm from the country where Mt. Everest is, or from the country which has produced Drs like Sanduk Ruit and innovators like Mahabir Pun. Good luck to this young lady, hope she wins but no support from me, sorry. If people united like this when selecting their local community representatives and upper level politicians.... Good write up though.
