I'm a foreign Born Nepali citizen. For me and my family Nepal is a country where we all go back once in a while to feel that special feeling which made us all proud; The himalayas, Lord Buddha, Pashupatinath, Everest and so on. We all love Nepal just like how every nepali citizens love Nepal. I proudly call myself a Gurkha!! I have seen Nepali in various situations, but nothing scares me more than Todays Nepal. I want to discuss a few problems about Nepal. First of all it made me sick to know the quality of education our leaders have received. For instance i saw Prachanda speaking English lot of times and i think he doesnt understand what he says. How could some one with such an educational background get to lead the country. Infact i saw fifth graders in Nepali parliaments(Mostly from Maoists). I gurantee that 90% of the Maoists politican doesnt know how to read/write well. Unless they can understand good English how do they know whats happening around the world. Yeah they can refer Kantipur but Kantipur carries only a little bit of international news and they almost dont carry any analysis. How is it possible that Nepalis poured support for these illetrates. I feel so ashamed when they were quoting old Marxist quote but have no clue about the free market system. Shouldn't we frame a rule that no unedcutaed person can run Nepal?

You say like only you know how to speak English. I hate Prachanda but here I would like to take his side. Give me one good reason why a leader of a sovereign state which has its own culture and language need to have good accent of english to communicate with the citizen who can only understand Nepali?

WorldWideWeb! You have to take things seriously. I dont mean to say i can only speak English. But if Prachanda doesnt know how to speak English why doesnt he hire a translator. I have seen him giving a speech in Norway about Maoism in English. Im like what? are you serious , you gonna go to an independent country and talk about Mao as if you have nothing to talk about. And i bet 99.99% didnt understand him at all. Besides that since Nepal is a land locked country our politicians must understand English very well because our soverneighty is questioned again and again. With them knowing how to read/write English how will the understand any foreign affairs. I'm not underestimating them but come on Tell me if i turn them BBC how many Maoists can Understand that. I bet very few. same thing applies for other parties too but in  smaller proportion. Check this linkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv1mwvvy0P0            How will she react with other ministers of the world. I bet even if some one offers Nepal a billion dollar she wouldn't understand it. This is the a scary situation bro!

Before we talk about someone else's English, let's fix the sentence below. Shall we?

I gurantee guarantee that 90% of the Maoists politican politicians doesnt don't know how to read/write well.

Neither is IDK2013's.
If you criticize somebody on their shortcomings, you expose yourself for your own criticism.

Of all the flaws that our leaders have, their inability to speak fluent english is least of our concern. Did you think premiers of Germany, Russia and other super powers speak fluent english?

True! Being "born in the USA " and knowing " English" they think they are on the top of the world. Back to the topic, our leaders should learn so many other things before they learn English.

I agree with Gurkha, and this is not about English but Education. These illitreate, unproductive and inhumane people don't deserve to lead our beautiful country Nepal

I will vote for an illiterate but a good/just leader as oppose to an educated goon. Literacy is a good tool but not an absolute criterion to be a good leader.

I don't think it has to do anything with language.
China mainland is doing awesome in everything in present day context..
and their leaders don't have that good grip in English either,
though they walk around with translators or read out loud, most of the time.
Do you really think English is the hindrance for development of any nation?
I am  not opposing one shouldn't have English skill, but the way you sounded
it's ridiculous when almost all words in your post are full of spell errors and
glitches.
And Is it not little immature to assume that they're totally blacked out from other
world when they've access to whole portal to world—internet ? do you really
think they've to depend only on kantipur to check world news?

Regarding those 'netas' in Nepal, I don't have any words to say. As I read somewhere,
new definitions are on rise for critics like us. I'm just thinking at least it would take
at least three generation to see something good happen there. These current old
leaders, they need to die off first, and they already have cultivated and poisoned
young minds like 'gagan thapa', they need to die off as well.. The third gen probably
will have little influence but they'll certainly have some of those inherited 'aani-baani'. So given
all those age factors, life expectancies, I'd say another 100-150 years, Nepal is not going
anywhere.

OR

only a big miracle or divine intervention can do some magic.

Fact--> Majority of active Nepali Politicians are educated but closed minded. Think that education would make a difference the way people think ? he he Think again, a good example would be active users of sajha. Most of them hold some sorta degree and yet bicker about petty lil things act like a drama queen.. just like them politicians. People need to learn how to put their egos aside and look towards the common goal of betterment of the country. Just because they know how to speak English does not make them a good Leader.
So this whole thread is a much ado about nothing.

I agree that we have witnessed epic failures of PhD and other academic degrees in Nepalese politicis but how about majority of 605 members in dissolved CA ? Most of them were uneducated and they remained puppets in the hand of few educated but crooked leaders thoughout their term. If they were well educated and serious about their job than their masters, we would already have new constitution in our hands.

@Geo
That's a good point, however these CAs were elected by people. I think it is more important that people casting ballots are educated than the leaders themselves. Again, I am okay with my PM being minimally educated, with thick accent as long as he takes steps towards the betterment of the nation.

Hydrogen Sulphide, You think those people are easily going to give up their power and kursi ? he he It is easier said than done. Everytime someone from outside of Nepali politics tries to get into the Nepali Political system.. they kick them out saying this not Umrica or Europe. Maoists killed a lot of people to get to where they are, do you think they are just going to hang up their coat and say take over ? Remember what happened to a Harvard Graduate Economist who tried to run for Kathmandu pradhan Panch. he he Talk is cheap. Pharkera kahi garna diyay po yo gadha politicians haru ley..
