Hi I got a job recently through direct hire from a company. My opt expires in Jan '10. This company is willing to sponsor me for my H1. I dont know, if the quota for H1 -advanced degree is over or not for this session. Since my masters was on Science and Technology, I can renew my EAD card. I dont know yet, if my company is a E-verified or not. What should I do now? Shall I go for H1B, or shall I ask them, if they can extend my EAD this year, and then they can apply H1B next year? Can anyone give me suggestion? FYI: I was working 20hrs a week in OPT card from last Jan '09 for other company and I am starting my New job from 1st sept. Thank you

bluebus, do some thinking before you publicly display your inability to do a simple google search. nagois, I got this information from the USCIS site and that's only government count..even if the Master's Quota is full you can still apply for regular, where the cap is 65K. If I were you I would file H-1B right away. You don't know how competitive the filling with be next year (esp since everyone is singing that the recession is over) so why take the risk? Remember in previous years, the quota would be maxed out within a couple of days. " As of August 7, 2009, approximately 44,900 H-1B cap-subject petitions and approximately 20,000 petitions qualifying for the advanced degree cap exemption had been filed. USCIS will continue to accept both cap-subject petitions and advanced degree petitions until a sufficient number of H-1B petitions have been received to reach the statutory limits, taking into account the fact that some of these petitions may be denied, revoked, or withdrawn. u r Absolutely right Fortunefaded..These idiots should learn to do Google before they post smthing in the forum..Nagios go ahead and apply for H1b since u have a legit Job and i encourage ppl with legit Job to apply for H1B..Btw the Quota for 2009 will be open till sept 31st(didn't check the calendar ,Bottom Line last date of Sept 2010) if the quota doesn't get filled for the current fiscal year or whichever comes first...
and do Premium Processing so in that way u will be able to know about the outcome within 15 business days(if there's no RFE)..I have seen Lots of PPL stuck in Normal Processing this yr even after having legit Jobs..
Best of Luck

fortunefaded, i think i found the exact same info that you quoted but misinterpreted what it meant. thank you for pointing it out. i will work towards my 'google' skills before posting anything again, lest i anger the 'google experts' here in sajha, and avoid being called such inglorious names like 'idiots' by people who have no business calling me anything. yes, that means you pyarodesbashiharu, whoever you may be. thank you. good luck with the H1B nagios.
