So, guys i have a SERO plan from sprint (i.e. 500 mins/month+ unlimited data+unlimited text+ free weekends mins. for only $30 per month). I have been with them for almost 4 years now.
I fell in love with Iphone the time it was announced. I have been controlling my urge not to get an Iphone and just stick with my awesome SERO plan, but its just getting unbearable these days. I know iphone would at least cost me $70 a month and i do not get to use unlimited data+text, but i still want to go for an IPHONE. On the other hand i feel i would regret my decision of getting an iphone as i know it only a "fad" these days.
Has anyone given up their SERO plan for an Iphone? Is it a good decision in a long term provided that it costs more than SERO? Help!!!

$30(SERO) + $10 (Premium SERO, for New SmartPhones) + $10 (4G Service)= $50 (Unlimited Data, Unlimited Mobile Voice Calls (any carrier), Unlimited Text + Free talk starts from 7-7....... I feel it's a Much better deal than iphone/ATT!!
P.S: I have HTC EVO!

That's exactly the dilemma. I can get a 4G if i upgrade and only pay $50 a month. But, my desire to have an "I PHONE" is just killing me. Wish Sprint had the I phone that SERO users could upgrade into.

Get HTC EVO 4G for Sprint SERO premium. it cost $50 per month....trust me...this phone is better than iphone....I was also on SERO for 4 years and recently upgraded to SERO premium. I had a similar desire of getting iphone but looking at the market trend now, Android is taking over.

One person I know was in the exact predicament as you are in right now. He had that very same fantastic $30/month plan with Sprint. You did not mention but his #30 Sprint plan also allowed for making the phone a hotspot so that you can tether other devices. But when iPhone 4 came out, he fell into Steve Job's spell and succumbed into changing his plan to AT&T so that he can have his "Precious".
And he loves his "Precious" - iPhone that is.
But...
He regrets his decision.
Dropped calls. Slow speed. Web page load crashes. Tiered data plan. Anything AT&T, you name it, he hates it.
He curses AT&T under his every breath. If he sees AT&T maintenance van or truck, he has to physically restrain himself from flinging stones at it or driving into it. He sold all his AT&T stocks and keeps badmouthing it in every analyst forum he is in (he works in finance industry in NYC). One time he said he woke up wanting to put flaming bag with dog-poop in front of AT&T store where he got his plan, but fresh cup of coffee knocked some sense into him.
So there you are...

Momoo bro,
I have an iphone and I would switch to your plan in a blink of an eye. Iphone sucks from every aspect except for showing off. DONT DO IT.

LOL @ Nina. Thanks everyone! The comments made it a lot easier for me to decide. I guess i will just stick with SERO for now and maybe upgrade to EVO 4G next month or so. But, even then that would be like $20/month more for just the phone itself as my area is 4G incapable. And, once i upgrade there is no downgrading. Why do the phone companies need to carry out deal with the phone makers? Thing would have been a lot easier if we could just buy the phone from the manufacturer and just use it on which ever network we prefer, just like in Nepal or India.

Forbes reports on a new research note from Jeffries & Co. analyst Peter Misek claiming that Apple's next-generation iPhone will be a relatively minor revamp known as the "iPhone 4S" and will debut in September. Misek also claims that Apple will be expanding carrier availability in the U.S. to include Sprint and T-Mobile by the end of the year, with China Mobile also reportedly coming on board.
"According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support," he writes in a research note.
But he also says that "industry checks indicate Apple will likely announce Sprint, T-Mobile, and China Mobile as new carriers."
The "iPhone 4S" name first gained publicity last month in claims that Apple has been providing select high-level iOS developers with souped-up iPhone 4 devices, with the source citing an unofficial name of "iPhone 4S" for the device.
Misek's report goes on to note that the next-generation iPhone is not likely to bring compatibility with faster LTE 4G networks rolling out in some markets, as the required chipsets from Qualcomm are not yet available in quantity to support the inclusion of the technology.
As for LTE, he says the Qualcomm LTE chipset Apple would have used "is currently not achieving yields sufficient for inclusion in the iPhone 5." He says Apple had hoped to have the LTE chipsets ready, but was planning a version without LTE called iPhone 4S.
The claim regarding a lack of LTE compatibility in the next-generation iPhone fits with earlier reports that the required chipsets won't be available to make their way into handsets until 2012.

I have HTC EVO 4G. Everything unlimited (compulsory) takes my bill to around $90.
The best thing i like about this phone is the Navigation. It has been so helpful to me.
Youtube sucks on htc. Even though its a 4G, its bad.
I think iphone is better for web and youtube purpose. If you maximize the webpage on htc then click does not work correctly.

Btw, is there anything even close to Sprint's SERO plan on AT&T or Verizon? I know AT&T offers FAN Discounts ranging from 7% to 30% off the monthly bills (like's sprint's 15% Employee Dicount), but anything other than that you people are aware of? What is the cheapest plan on smartphones on AT&T or Verizon have you guys seen/ have?

If your youtube doesnt work on HTC evo try updating it and if you still have the same issue download VEVO, its a lot better.. also Updating it to 2.3 (gingerbread) makes it faster.. If you are eligible for an upgrade, i would siggest you to go with nexus S .. i had an evo, then I switched to Arrive, then Shift, then NExus S.. trust me Nexus S is the best out there.. Battery life is way better than any other.. videos plays without buffering...
P.S. Looking at all the customers that I get from ATT i really suggest you stay with Sprint coz the plan is really good and get an EVO or NExus S.. if you want discount on your bill email me and ill add extra discount!! :)

@momoo: I like my iPhone 4 but your plan is pretty sweet. It looks like the iPhone coming to sprint in September according to that forbes report, just buy that one.
For now, just get an ipod touch. Lol. It will give you 30% of the iPhone experience.
@Nina: that was the biggest piece of bull crap, i have heard in a long while. The guy if he exists, must have some serious unresolved psychological issues, harbored in his limbic brain. That dog poop thing in front of the store would have made a good story though. I hope that happens!!

I'm sure lots of you already knows about it but for them who don't than, EVO 3D is coming out on June 24, $199.99 and the Instant rebate is extended until July 21. So if anybody is thinking about getting EVO 4G than, i would suggest to go for EVO 3D, not much of changes than EVO except the 3D features and also Android 3.2 Gingerbread, which is available on EVO too, if anybody hasn't upgraded their EVO than do it soon, you can do it manually too. Thanks.

Thanks guys for suggestions. I went ahead and upgraded to $40/p.m. SERO PREMIUM plan and got myself a Blackberry 9330 instead.
I really wanted the EVO, but the upgrading price for EVO was just ridiculously expensive (over $299 and will probably same for EVO 3D as well) and despite of the fact that my location does not support 4G yet, they still want me to pay extra $10 for the same 3G speed (making it $50 SERO plan) and i decided to pass.
Its not even been 8 hours since I had my Blackberry device, i have already started hating it. I don't know why but i just cannot get rid of my desire to own an iphone. Sigh!!! :(

SERO Plan no Longer exists for New Customers. It's a highly subsidized plan offered to Sprint Employees Only, but for some reasons the employee email and pass-code were leaked through the internet by its own employee for referral purposes, leading to a revolution. Hundreds of thousands switched to Sprint SERO after the plan showed up on the several deals website and that's how i got one for myself.
At present, Instead of SERO, they have the same plan (Everything Plus Referral Plan) for 59.99 and you need the employee's Email ID and 3 Digit Code to get one for yourself. Here is the email, code and link to the plan. http://www.ecoupons.com/deal/20081115175525726/Sprint-Everything-Plus-Referral-Program-(SERO)
