Mero visa yo summer ma sakinchha (near the end of June). I am finishing up my MS (July/Aug 2011 ma sakinchha) and will be starting my PhD from September 2011. So, April ma Nepal gayera new visa line plan ma chhu. Tara bazaar tira purano type ko passport aba use garna mildaina, naya MRP (Machine Readable Passport) chainchha bhanchhan. Specifically, 2014 pachhi MRP nai chainchha bhanchhan. K ho kura? News padhe anusaar MRP nikaalna about 1 month laagchha re. True ho? Yo patak 20-22 days bhanda badhi basna mildaina mero Nepalma. Samasya po parla jasto chha ta malai? FYI, mero current passport (which is not MRP) 2015 ma expire hunchha. Kripaya kaslai/jaslai thaha chha, sallah, sujhaab dinu bhaye aabhaari hune thiye.

Huna ta new visa naliye pani hunchha, because I will be back in the US before my current visa expires. But during my PhD, I might be required to travel abroad for conferences/talks/internships/etc. Tyasaile ahile Nepal gayeko belama naya visa linu paryo bhanne sochdai chhu.

passport valid bhaye samma ta yahi passport nai use garna paunu parne ho mero bichar ma.

 u can use the same passport   until it expires . 

 "Huna ta new visa naliye pani hunchha, because I will be back in the US before my current visa expires." This will definitely put u in trouble at the port of entry, if ur visa is expiring soon. So, better to get a new visa while u travel Nepal.
The hand-written passport is good until 2015 for travelling according to the ICAO rules.

 My suggestion - Do not waste for new passport. 
2014 auna ajhai 2-4 year baaki 6, after 1- year, y can make passport from  embassy.

hit.the.hot brother, ma US farkeko about 1 month pachhi maatra visa expire hunchha. I20 chahi 2012 samma valid hunchha. Maile international office ma gayera sodheko, problem hudaina bhanyo. Tai pani safe side ma rahana ko laagi new visa lina laageko. Ahilesamma padhai raamrai chha, status valid chha, and campus baahira katai kaam gareko chhaina. So hopefully, there won't be any problem.

 From what I hear, one can continue using the current passport until it expires, upon which, the new passport given will be MRP.  You do have the option of getting MRP despite your current valid passport, but it will cost you more than ten thousand rupees and perhaps can only be done in Kathmandu after due procedure.
