Hi folks

I wanted to know if there is a safe and legal way to get  a sum of money from Nepal to the US.I doubt there is,but if there is i'm sure somebody here has an idea. And if there is what kind of taxes are involved.I tried asking this in Nepal, but the answers only got more complicated every time i asked this question.

Thanking my sajha friends in advance.

@ANS

Lolz.I guess i would have said the same thing too.I figure thats cause we(me included) have gotten  so sick and tired of corruption back home,we automatically assume the worst.

I can assure you(not that you need assuring) that my father is NOT a politician and the money is legit.Otherwise i would not be looking for a legal way to get the money here.

But it is kind of sad that it is difficult to bring your own money over.

Amen.

I know this wasn't your question and it's none of my business how you spend your money. But dude, if I had 1 crore, I would return back to Nepal and find a job that pays me NRS 25,000 monthly. Then I would live for the next 40 years having 45,833 to spend monthly. Since my parents already have a house I won't have to pay for house or rent and I can buy a cheap bike(don't need a car). I think 45,833 would be more than enough for me per month. I am totally jealous of you mate. If I had that kind of doe I would book a one way ticket right now. Anyways, good for you. I hope someone can answer your question. Good luck!!

Edit: 45,833 per month without taking the interest into account. Just think how much money you can spend monthly if you take the interest into account. I am pretty sure NRs 45,833 monthly is still worth a lot in Nepal when the only thing I will be spending money on is food, utilities, petrol for bike. No rent payment, no car payment, no health&car insurance payment. Only food, utilities and petrol. I can only dream!!

May be some economist comment here why exactly it is not your money. Its your money in Nepal does not mean you can transfer your money out of Nepal. There is some kind of dependency built up here that any one can understand, but economist can explain well. So don't assume that whatever you own in Nepal is yours even outside the country.

Consult with the lawyer; I'm sure that there is a way to bring your money here. However, if you bring the money here as a gift, I believe you don't have to pay tax. Otherwise, be ready for some hefty tax to uncle Sam.

@sabaikosathi:  Bro, 1 crore NR is not worth much in Nepal these days - you can barely buy a decent home in Kathmandu. I am not sure if I understood your math correctly, but you can make 80K a month in interest itself if you keep that money in bank. Some banks pay as much as 12% in Nepal; although, you may have to give up your sleeps at night worrying if your bank will still be there the next morning :)

If you do not have a job and a regular income , even a buck is worth it. If the money is earn by sweat or pure investment or your hard work money and not a corrupted on then it is worth it of even a buck. It is not worth it to those who had made that money by corruption or abduction or criminally.

Can you explain to yourself how did you make that much money while you were in USA? Did your parents were a jamindar in neo cities like Hetauda, chitwan, Itahari, Kathmandu, Damak, Chadragadi, and so on? If that is the case , you have not done any thing to earn it but you inherited it? Did not you? Do you know how your parent got that land? Did he/she inherited it? If not I smell something.

Well i have been in the US  for a while now and my wife and I do have jobs that pay well.

But i got the money from my grand dad who happened to buy land in kathmandu when the prices were dirt cheap.Since i'm based here and the family is here, there is no point in keeping that land there.I'd rather  get that money and invest it here.Thats the deal.

I guess i have to talk to a lawyer.Thanks peeps,for your feeedback.

Yeah, baby , You hit the jackpot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me ask a question, did your grand parent were originally from KaTHMANDU???????? If not still I smell odds.

Dude: Good for you and your handsomely paying job and do we care about it no. Do we want to hear from you about the legitimate of your property, hake not.

Stop clarify it, even did it, 90% of government employee earned money some way, and it is widely accepted. And we are encouraging it too. We are corrupted too but we do not have any other way to handle it. Because the red tap-ism is so strong and after the emerge of Maoist, it is gone higher. All the looting, abductions  and criminal activities are done under the umbrella of Maoist name.

WTF! Why do you still smell something? I don't get this, the guy has some money that he wants to bring over and is asking for ways that he could get the money in. He said his grandfather gave him some land and thats about it. Does not matter where his grandfather was from. I dont see any clarification from his side. Hake no!!   (just kidding)

PS. If you are bringing money try bringing it in pieces (10k - 20k) and try bringing it through HongKong (if you know someone there or if you know someone who regularly goes to HK for bzness). Good Luck Bro.
