It is a touching piece I must say. Great!

Biratnagar as a background took me to my old days. I was virtually roaming on those streets as I was reading and I could imagine the bookstore on mainstreet near traffic chowk and Maroo on cotton pant and ironed cotton shirt. Puri, Jalebis (we used to call Julebi) and Allu curry used to be my favourite breakfast those days. Awww! Nostalgia hits so badly sometimes.

Maroo, unlike his set of Chinese fountain pens, which, rumors had it that it were actually manufactured in Calcutta, had a Japanese made ping pong bat that made us go to his store more often.

A question:

In English, don't you spell out the numbers from 1 to 9, and write numbers (digits) for anything from 10 to 99? For example: I have a brother who is nine years old, but acts like he is 12.

You wrote 'eleven' instead of 11. Should not that be 11? I am asking.

Absolutely Mesmerizing. I remembered those days from Rajbiraj and Birgunj...waiting desperately to reach 4th standard so that you have a privilege to use pen .. my first FLAME pen... my first moron FOUNTAIN pen......

When I was in 4th Standard, there used to be a guy called Mandal. Once, he bullied me to buy a new fountain pen for him. The charge was that I had lost it and I had to refurnish it to him.

Thanks John dai. Your most of the writings always remind me of those beautiful days I had spent iin terai. Sadly things have changed for last couple of years. The ongoing chaos only makes you feel cry.

I owe this reply to Cleopatra, who seems to have understood me more than anyone else, including myself. My writings are full of flaws; they are semi-plausible and are mottled with grammatical errors. Heaven knows I have hated myself after I posted my previous stories; it was really embarrassing going through them after they were posted. There are a group of people who like it, and a group of more people who make a laughingstock out of it. I have often failed to highlight little details of the incident for the sake of brevity which could have festooned the stories otherwise. But there is one thing about my writing I have been proud of - I am spontaneous. I never rehearse, I never revise, I write in one session. I never look for appropriate, suitable verbiages, that readers often expect from a more than a mediocre writer, if I am at all. But then why make writing so arduous when you know you cannot ever be good? It is just a simple interpretation of your reminisces that has longed to come out from your system, in something tangible. I adore the beauty of words, but I will not kill myself over it. That makes me a less than mediocre, but a spontaneous writer. Thank you Cleo, you finally suited me with a word I had been looking for ages.

I thank you all who have endeavored to read this story; I apologize if it were an overly sentimental drama. I thank you all who cried, I thank you all who smiled.

I am curious what Cleopatra bhanney manchey le wrote to you, John, but I personally find your writings very entertaining. I cannot say if it is flawless or without any more room for improvement for I do not possess the ability to judge, however, as a lay person reader, I think you are a good writer. The very fact that my eyebrows rise a tad centiimeter when I see that you have posted a new story and I immediately feel like reading it as soon as possible demonstrates the level of regard I put on your literary worth. So keep on writing, brother.
