Guys just listen the song "BANEKO CHHA PAHARALE YO CHHATI MERO BAGEKO CHHA CHHAHARA RAGATMA MERO" by Gopal Yonjan and listen this new National Anthem which one makes you proud?
For me this is not even likely to be a folk song. I request everyone not to derive a conclusion that I disrespect the National Anthem. I respect so I seek the quality in it. Yo bachha phakauna gaa'ko geet ho ki kya ho? Neither words nor music.... what is good in it to deserve the National Anthem. Everything in Nepal is -Hatti aayo hatti aayo fussa. In my opinion:
1) They had to select at least 5 lyrics.
2) Make them public and ask interested people to give music the same way as the songs were collected (there are so many musicians it is not important how respected and established musician did it) and making a commettee of experts (evern peoples opinion could be collected) select at least3 best musics for each.
3)then select one from those 15 finally not by ministers but by people. I request that everyone can distinguish between good and bad music. For example we can taste a food and make a comment easily if it tastes good but we can not prepare the food. So please understand that big writers and musicians are not necessary for the selection.

I didn't like the old one, and don't like the new one either --- at least the old one was glorifying someone but this new one does not even do that (my personal opinion)-- I am not sure if the national anthem has to include sagarmatha or Budhdha but it has to pump patriotic blood -- I feel bored with the new one.

The idea of having a few potential national anthem out to the public for a while, and choosing the one that gets the most public votes sounds like a good idea to me. After all, the national anthem is for all the Nepalese not just for those few in a commettee.

Glad that the old one is gone, though.

Baneko cha paharale yo chati mero CANT BE ACCEPTED AS A NATIONAL ANTHEM because it talks only about CHORO (SON). Where is the daughter of Nepal.

the idea of voting sounds democratic but aren't we being too democratic for every other thing at times? where do we get this spunk from? i wish we, nepalese, could have this gusto in other avenues that demand more attention.

i am not saying i am pleased with the new anthem but it's not too bad either. with better composition, i am sure it will sound better--non folk-like and more-anthem-like.take the star-spangled banner--the american national anthem for instance. i don't see blood pumping words in the first stanza, which BTW is the only stanza sung these days. don't forget it was made national anthem by a congressional resolution which is also a committee. they didn't go to public for voting.

i consider myself as a believer of democracy but i don't believe everything in democracy has to be decided by public voting just for the sake of democratic practice.

My honest opinion (if anyone cares) is this: we are by nature resistant to change and it will take a while and lots of repeated playing and listening before people embrace it. I wonder how it was like when "Sri Man Gambir" first came out - I suppose we will never know.

I like the suggestions for selecting a new anthem but I guess it's too late for that now and they probably wont change it.

Perosnally, I liked the lyrics of the new anthem much better than the old one. The language is simpler for one, it is more inclusive and seeks to focus on the people of the country rather than one individual and institution. The lyrics of the old one were almost servile in my opinion.

As a Nepali, the new national anthem better reflects what I think of my country than the old one.

As for the tune, music is a matter of taste and choice so to each his own. I thought it was okay - I didn't go crazy over it but didn't think it was terrible either. I think people will all "break in" to the music over time.

Just my opinion.

Lootekukur. How can you call it democratic when the decision are taken by the government who doesnot have the mandate of people and who are taking one after another major decision.

The way things are in Nepal why waste time on some national songs when leaders and nepalese have lost national interest.

I don't see myself singing that ever and won't even remember it nor anyone who is supporting or against it will be singing ..Just let it be who cares!!!let the nepalese kids in school suffer

Mr. Amber Gurung said in interview that the music that you heard was done in rush and the government was pushing him to produce it that particular day so he gave the preliminary cd that he had recorded with home keyboard. Musically it will be better later -he said. So be patient people.

Do one thing that I did people. Play it for several times like 10 times, at last, you would say , " hey that wasn't that bad". try and come here to comment.

I agreed with first thread that we atleast wanna know what other 5 choices sound like. People should have asked for their opinions least (no voting though). But our mighty government not only ignored, it also forced musician hard just to produce the result. And the outcome is mixed with less enthusiasm contarary to Wow ! or Bravo!!

i am not claiming that the present government is a democratically elected one, i am just wondering if every decision, regardless of the magnitude of its impact on people, needs the mandate of people before implication in democracy. . i am just asking: why don't we save this energy for other issues pertaining to basic rights: health-care, education and employment which are more important ?

and as mr. truth has put, the composition was done in a rush--sure it sounds like one :P. with time, it will grow inside us, trust me! if u've heard british national anthem, it's nothing different from our previous one. ours new one is far better as for lyrics is concerned. so be patient!

May be the national anthem is not bad but I don't like it as it is right now. My personal opinion. Who knows I may like it later.

National anthem is a big thing, and belongs to all Nepalese. I still don't think a commettee should decide what should/shouldn't be the national anthem. General public should vote for it. Well, why should I buy a concept that advocates "something was/ is not done anywhere so we shouldn't do it either". Why not? can't we lead on something?
I am not saying they should hold an election just to select a song. They could've put the song choices (after playing for a while on the comm. media) on the election for CA. They can have an interim parliament, interim government, interim constitution -- they could have one interim national anthem too.

Anyway, I am not gonna sing the national anthem (NA) until I feel comfortable. That's all. I am not against the ones who like the way NA is.

it is the worst they did not let us hear any alternative tunes for the national anthem. it is for ever not like a seasonal song so one need to be serious.

its not about what makes you proud - you are missing the point. Change is good. Old National Anthem is crap if you really hear the words. these both look better to me than the older one.

can you elaborate - quality ? how do you quantify it or what is your basis of comparison.

there could be no consensus among Nepalese that has been the problem forever. That's why king ruled. somebody needs to rule because people can't rule.

One more time the whole problem is there is no Consensus among Nepalese. Given the very nature of Nepalese and how they live and have lived in the past. I don't see any reason how we can come together and form a consensus on a National Anthem.

As far as people are concerned some want Newari Calendar as their official Nepali calendar, some want Kirati National anthem other want in maithali.

this will go on until there is huge civil war. And people have no choice but to come together. there is no other option.

And some one wants - quality National anthem. ? How about other guys what you want.

I just want musical anthem to remove all this conflicting ideas? It should not be hard to mix newari, maithali, parvate and rock music together would it be ?
