Matrika Yadav has always been a loose cannon. The decision to send him to the cabinet appears to be driven by ethnic and regional political considerations amongst other things could backfire badly on the Maosits if he cannot keep his aggression in check.

I am not a follower or either Girija or Prachanda but I am quite glad to see someone taking charge, albeit in a small way, in the country. I am also not one to often agree with Prachanda but I think he is right when he says this is more an issue with style than substance between the two men.

I have little regard for Girija's autocratic ways, but given Yadav's past and present conduct , this seems to be more a case of assertiveness than autocracy.

I am also not a big fan of the Army top brass, but I am also glad to see the PM stand up for the Army. Maybe some in the Army are responsible for what Mr Yadav alleges and if they are they should be investigated and punished. Assuming the Monarchy will be abolished, and the trend at the moment point to precisely that, the Nepal Army might turn out to be the best guardian of Nepali democracy. It is time our politicians stopped blindly bashing the Army and learn to respect and engage it and win it over to the side of the people. On that account, I give full credit to Girija and his security adviser Ramesh Jung Thapa for making an effort to do so.

अन्तरिम सरकारमा सहभागी भएर वन मन्त्रालय सम्हालेको हप्ता दिन नबित्दै कैलालीमा २३ चैतमा माओवादी सेनाको सातौँ डिभिजनअन्तर्गत गोरङ्गेस्थित लोकेश स्मृति ब्रिगेडले 'जनसेना व्यवस्थापनका लागि' भनेर सालका करिब ६० वटा रूख काटेको छ। माओवादीले चारजना काठका ठेकेदारहरू लगाएर स्थानीय जनताको संरक्षणमा रहेका तीन वटा प्रस्तावित सामुदायिक वनबाट यी रूख काटेको हो। जनसेनालाई सुत्ने खाटलगायतका सामान बनाउन भनिएपनि अधिकांश काठ बौनियास्थित सःमिलमा पुर्‍याइएको छ। स्थानीय बासिन्दाको विरोधपछि दुई ट्रक काठ माओवादी क्याम्प नजिकै राखिएका छन्(हे.तस्बिर)।

यसको दुई दिनपछि प्रहरीले २५ चैत राति साढे नौ बजे धनगढी, बोराडाँडीस्थित अवस्थी सःमिलबाट सहजपुरस्थित बहुवीर योद्धा ब्रिगेडले काटेको एक ट्रक काठ पक्राउ गरेको छ। स्थानीय बासिन्दाको सूचना र प्रमुख जिल्ला अधिकारीको आदेशमा प्रहरीले सो कारबाही गरेको थियो। ट्रक ड्राइभर भागेको अवस्थामा पक्राउ परेको सो ट्रकलाई 'बेवारिसे अवस्थामा भेटिएको' मुचुल्का तयार पारेर प्रहरीले जिल्ला वन कार्यालयमा बुाएको छ।

शिविर व्यवस्थापनका नाममा कानूनलाई बेवास्ता गर्दै कैलालीमा माओवादीले पटकपटक वन फँडानी गर्दै आएका छन्। जिल्ल्ाा वन अधिकृत मोहन कोइरालाका अनुसार, केही समयअघि माओवादीको स्थानीय नेतृत्वले जनसेनालाई खाट बनाउन तीन हजार क्युविक फीट काठ आवश्यक रहेको मौखिक जानकारी दिएको छ। कोइराला भन्छन्, “उनीहरूले आफैँ रूख काटेको थाहा पाएपछि बुझ्न टोली खटाएको छु।” माओवादीका कैलाली जिल्ला सह'इन्चार्ज श्रवण भने जनसेनाका सातै डिभिजनले वन कार्यालयबाट स्वीकृति लिएर मात्र रूख काटेको दाबी गर्छन्। स्थानीय बासिन्दाका अनुसार, लोकेश स्मृति ब्रिगेडका कमाण्डर सन्तोषले क्याम्प व्यवस्थापनका लागि भनेर प्रस्तावित त्रिशक्ति सामुदायिक वन उपभोक्ता समूहबाट काठ मागेका थिए। तर समूहको कार्यसमितिबाट निर्णय नहुँदै माओवादीले धमाधम रूख काट्न शुरु गरेको सो सामुदायिक वनका अध्यक्ष नक रावल बताउँछन्।

कैलालीको जङ्गलका हरिया रूख माओवादीको प्रमुख आयस्रोतका रूपमा रहँदै आएका छन्। सशस्त्र द्वन्द्वका बेलामा पनि तिनले लिलाम सकार भएका काठहरूबाट कर उठाउँदै आएका थिए भने अहिले लिलाम काठहरूमा कर लगाउन छाडेर सोै रूख काट्न थालेका छन्।

It is shame the same Maoist: Matrika who claimed to be fighting for protecting the forest is helping his party men clear the jungle.

As I said earlier in this thread, Maoist are very good on saying one thing do another thing. The news below just is example of that. If Girija has guts, he needs to fire this thug.

Maoists involved in clearing 163 hectors of forest in Bardiya

BARDIYA, May 3 - Tree felling in Bardiya has intensified in the wake of the CPN-Maoist garnering the Forest ministerial portfolio with the Maoist local leadership clearing 163 hectors of the Rani Gaura Women's Community Forest in the district's Baniyabhar VDC-2.
The Maoists have set up some 2000 temporary camps for homeless squatters in the clearing at the Rani Gaura community forest which is situated in the mid-Bardiya National Park.

According to community forest chairperson Meena Pandey, an armed group calling itself Maoists had felled some 0.4 million large and small plants.

Pandey said that the group numbering in hundreds had arrived at the plantation on April 30 and began chopping plants that had been nurtured since the last 12 years.

Locals state that they feel unsafe after the Maoists began conducting war exercises at the clearing since the day the camps were put up.

Local Nare Budha alleged local Maoist leader Chakra Bahadur Chaudhary of being directly involved in the destruction of the forest.

"When we ask them not to cut the trees, they threaten us with our lives," Budha said.

The Forest User's Association has sharply criticized the tree felling.

Forest users demand Forest Minister's resignation

Meanwhile, the Middle Kareliya Forest Users Group, Baniyabhar has demanded the resignation of the Maoist Forest Minister Matrika Yadav.
The group's chairman Manoj Khatri said that since the Maoists were directly involved in the tree felling, the Maoist Minister for Forest and Soil Conversation did not have the moral rights to hold the post.

In this regards, the CPN-M district committee member and former district people's court judge Chandra Kant Dhakal said that the party would take harsh actions against anyone from the party found to be involved in the deforestation.

Meanwhile, on the eight party's authority, the Bardiya Park has handed a seven-day deadline for the squatters camping in the forest grounds to clear out.
