Hey guys ! my pc got attacked with spyware. Some porno sites pup up at the middle of the work. ufff ! I am in more trouble when my Prof. peeps at my room and it happens at the same time. :-(. Do you know any FREE anti-spyware ? Your help is highly appriciated.

By the way, I didn't visit any porno sites. It happened when one of my friend was searching some smiles on the web. :-)

dont you have a pop up blocker or anti virus program installed on your computer? without going to some porn sites or even matchmakers, porn sites wont pop up.. just scan your thing and del the virus.. i prefer spybot or ad-adware, norton antivirus is great, i have that

swap your pc with that friend....or go to download.com and get spybot..it's good and free

It has also installed "Sophos- Antivirus 2(2) ! Whatz that ? I never heard neither I installed it. There is no option to remove it from "Add/Remove program. It is just blinking at the right corner of the task bar saying that my pc is infected and I need to by their software :-(. Neither I can open and see nor I can exit it.

Nepal ko Chhora, I tried it, but didn't work. I have google, yahoo tool bar. None of their popups blockers work.

Ok, I am gonna try other suggestions too. Hope, I won't install any more spyware instead. :-).

hey why dont you copy the screen and post it up here then we all can see it.. did you scan yet? and yeah dont use internet explorer, use firefox if you're not using it and remove the yahoo, google, or msn toolbars, trust me theyre big headaches only.

Sophos is an anti-virus program. But I am just wondering how come your task bar is showing sophos when you never insttalled it?
Looks like the virus is fooling you around.

the best spyware availabel till today is adaware. Basic service (cleaning your comp of spyware) is free. To block them you have to buy the software. With free download you can scan your comp every week to clean it up. It is very trusted and proven software.

Format your hard-drive and clean install everything and you will be fine. And one more thing, don't let you and your friends to visit the porno sites in office PC s in the future. :)

J/K. I would clear the history and all the offline files along with the cookies. Then I would run adaware or any other spyware removal s/w. I would not install toolbars like the one from google. They all suck. Uninstall them if you have and don't forget to turn on the "pop-up" blocker.

You will be fine. These days professors tend to be more than happy to get some multi-dimensional students who can research and timepass at the sametime. :)

hmm ! looks like I got rid of those spies. Finally, spybot did great job ! I guess. If anymore p-site pup ups, I'll visit them and enjoy the rest of my time. :-)

I had the same problem. The easiest way (without spending money) I found out after a lots of research was to do complete reinstallment. I did that and now I have got rid of it. Give it a try if you want to .

I just got into this problem right now. It is midnight and nobody is here either. But still I am scared that my computer will crash and I won't be able to do any sort of internet assignments. So if you have fixed your problem. My midterms and papers are due this week.
Just to let you know, according to my computer, I need to have antimalware and antispyware. I have found some but if any of you guys are experienced with it and know much about it,

Download adaware and spybot from download.com. These programs are free for personal use and are very effective.

The one from Microsoft (mentioned above) is also good but these two work better for me.

As far as antivirus goes, some ISPs provide antivirus for free. You should check with your ISP if they do.

Just in case if all of the above programs do not work and your browser is hijacked you should download hijack this also from download.com
