Dear all! I have seen that lots of nepalese student (girls boys) and newcomers to USA do not use Deodarant. Since it'st very sensitive issue, it is hard to advise them to use deo in person. It really gross to walk around with stinking sweat which is noticable from several feet. This is the fact and you should not feel bad about it if you haven't started using it. There is nothing to be shame about it but I would reccomond everyone to start using it As soon as you can. It lot better to start using it then being embarrased in front of your american colleagues or co workers. Thanks!!!

You are talking bullshit. If you cannot withstand a person's smell, you should change your nose. I hate these Westernized folks talking shit like this. Saleharu pu*ti chatchhan ani deoderant ko kura garchhan, chaak ma kiss garchan. First stop using those costly perfume. In a serious note, I feel that those who use deoderants are like active radars in a war as seen bya fighter plane. Apparently never take showers, never brush their teeth and floss them, never clean their tongue. A regular wash (a good bath every morning) and brushing your teeth well twice a day is a very good remedy. 1. Make sure you rub your feet, goins and armpits with a towel well while taking bath. Trim your hair in the armpit and groin area. 2. Always use clean shoes and clean socks. Make sure they are all dry. 3. Brush your teeth so that you go from KTM to Pokhara as well as aakash to patal. 4. Floss between teeth (really removes odor-causing bacteria and material). 5. Always scrap your tongue well. 6. Wear clea and dry shirts and pants. Always wear dry underwear. 7. Always fart in a lonely place or in the bathroom. If after doing the above regularly and your friends complain, ask them to go see a nose-doctor.

Magdadela: Why are you so defensive on the use of Deo? C'mon Man.... Besides, I think the newcomers are actually using it more often than people who came in early and late 90's. Another quick tip, If you clothes smell Masala (from our good old everyday cooking, Disclaimer: For only those who do home cooking), try Febreze air Freshner Spray, works really great !!

deodorants can lead to impotency and decreased libido, But again, better be bad in bed than bad awake.

Why do we feel that our clothes smell "masala" if we cook food in our kichen with them? I never used to have such smell feel back home but as i came here to the US, i have noticed that the indians n nepalese smell like "masala". So, these days, i always close my bedroom door shut while cooking in the kitchen and have seggregated clothes that i can use while cooking. It is a kinda mystery.

KnightCrawler, Not defensive but having fun. Rather than cure the problem deoderants hide the problems, that is my point. First you need to solve the problems. Again, regarding the masala, it happens. But you need to make sure you use one clothe in the kitchen and another at school, etc. Also make sure your closets are shut closed when you are cooking, keep your house well-ventilated etc.

Shiva, Deoderants and air-freshner contain oxidizer like Ozone that actually bleach your cells. They are known for causing cancer. Don't take it seriously but that's what I read one time.

I think regular showing really helps. On top of that just a frisk of cologne on your shirt or wherever you want yourself to smeell good wont cause impotency since its on the cloth and not body. Thats something extra we can use. But washing what you wear regularly, socks, cleaning shoes, keeping them dry and maintaining a daily hygiene is all that matters. No need to shave armpits n what not, when you grow old, it's gonna be gross man. Having hair does accumulate a bit of dirt but then again, the smell is from the sweat glands not from "stuff" getting trapped between hair. Dirt sticks to skin, not hair. So if it's gnna stink, a guy with no hair can stink as bad as guy without hair. YES I DO HAVE BODY HAIR, AND NO I DON'T STINK!!! When I first came here, I dodnt know about the whole cookign thing, so i heard it from somebody. And i became conscious of that. That's the only thing students living away from home shud remember. Use Febreeze, or some air freshner on clothes after cooking, perhaps open the window if it's not very cold. evn in winter, 5 mins wont kill you!! It's so darn effective.

Agree Magdadela: The Masala thing is very chronic among us.....Indians are worse....They don't care even though they have been here for years....Masala smells even when you stay in the kitchen/dining for a while. Don't believe me, Next time, when you go to eat at fren's house, try it. Even tough they have finished cooking....you enter, and hang around in Kitchen/Dining area for few mins, they step out alone, and smell your clothes, its all Masale........ I am glad most of us, if not all have ralized our masala smell....Talking from experience, it was embarassing at first...but I learnt the tricks, and its under control now!!

http://www.norwichunion.com/health/health-news/news-story.cgi?id=1141220299&c=430016192 For evidence seekers, for what is there that we know? The above link, to Shiv and others who may be interested to know more about it. By, the way the estrogen (which is again a product of Testosterone, the main male androgen), is not only related to breast cancer but to several other sex physiology implications. Besides that, concerns for air polutants and artificial smells can compromise the nasal sensibity to pheromones that initiate the early process of cascade events that ends in ejaculations. Having said that, repulsive smell will deny onself a potential mate, but overlacing with deodorants to mask the real source of foul smell will also not come free to the health, a bill one will have to pay as with aging. In a prelimenary reporting "it says adolscents with early start in use of chemicals and deodorants ends up with more chances of acne peppered body and other endocrine disturbances (don't quote me here, the findings was a survey study associated with city kids and their night lives in various big cities accross Asia).

Ok, here's a story but first you could use deodrant whether you're in Nepal or here or anywhere on this earth for that matter. Second, you don't have to if you don't smell. Regarding the masala thing, in some way or the other we've had our moments of chit chat but this thread has left me pondering. I had a Bulgarian room mate who never complained but come to think of it now, I remember he used to bring liquid frangnance that you mix with hot water in a bowl and let it out. Perhaps he did it because of the masala smell. I've hardly noticed the nasty smell of masala in my home when I enter but recently I went to a nepali apt, it smelled of masala and it made me wonder, great! my apt doesn't smell like this, I thought. We all should be more concious about this than the deodrant thing unless you stink.

KnightCrawler, Well I do know our masala smells a big time ... in fact very good to me, but for some it smells bad, just the way the deodarants smell allergic to me. When I smell deodarants, I know the guy is hiding his real smells first and foremost; he might be trying to be nice to folks but not to me. One thing none has probably dared to raise but with some humbleness I dare is: when you masterbate, you have a wet night or have a good sex with your partner, you'll eventually smell like a bull. This is the same foul smell that comes from H2S (Hydrogen Sulphide) you find in rotten eggs. This is true for both men and women. So Make sure right after this godly ritual, you take a good shower. I mean it. Again, do not take me wrong. You should not fart, smell bad in a public area. Your socks should not be detected by those radaral noses from miles away. But rather than trying unknowingly things, it is 1000 times better to follow simple rules to stay out of the problems all the time. However good deodarants you buy and use, the deodarants are also chemicals bacteria can easily decompose. Once bacteria start decomposing deodarants, Sir Crawler, you will smell worse than without it. ------------ Regarding this kind of issue, at one point you gotta stick out your thingy and say hell with you and your nose. There are folks who want to pretend more civilized in one way or other. For me this is an ignorance. Face it, a human should be able to tolerate a human's smell at one time or another; there are no perfect humans. White folks have their own smells, black have their own proprietary smells you can never have them even if you wanted and we Asians are known to have food smells. What is the big deal?
