Royal Commission receives 500 complaints The Corruption Control Royal Commission, which started work from February 21, has received nearly 500 complaints on corruption cases. The Commission formed to initiate swift action against corrupt persons has been endowed with judicial rights equal to the Special Court. According to official sources, complaints are coming in rapidly after it published notices asking ordinary citizens to report corruption cases. Officials said internal preparations regarding the investigation based on these complaints are underway. The complaints range from minor bribery cases to major scams, it is learnt. Sources also said that a set of directives governing the investigation process and actions to be initiated against convicted persons is under preparation, which is expected to enable the commission to go all-out against corruption. High-level meetings take place almost daily at the commission to discuss its upcoming moves, they said. Besides the chairman and the commissioners, there are 32 officers deputed to the commission from various government departments. News from - Nepalnews.com mbk Mar 14 05

Royal Commission chairman vows tough action against 'tainted' politicians Chairman of the Corruption Control Royal Commission, Bakta Bahadur Koirala, said on Thursday that investigation against corruption suspects would begin soon. He vowed tough action against anybody found amassing property by illegal means. Talking to newsmen today, Koirala said no corruption suspects would be spared of probe. ?Politicians who used to walk around in cheap slippers few years ago have become billionaires. Where did the money come from?? he asked adding, ?They must disclose the source of their fortune.? While pledging stern action against corruption-tainted persons, including politicians who were in power after the 1990?s political change, Koirala claimed the investigation process and the punishment against them would be fair and transparent. ?We are not biased against any political leader. Only those involved in corruption would be taken action against,? he said and declared that the assets of leaders and others convicted of corruption would be seized and nationalised. He added, ?Our investigation will be transparent and within legal parameters.? In his three decade-long career in the administrative service, Koirala headed the Special Police, the Department of Commerce and Industries and the Customs Department and was the secretary of the Home Ministry before his retirement. He was appointed chairman of the six-member commission on Wednesday. News from - Nepalnews.com mbk Feb 17 05 Related News - CIAA initiates action against 23 govt officials

I am pretty sure the royal commission has commissioned another commission to submit/file names of the politicians and ex-servicemen, servicemen to use as a triumph card to curb them. I, myself, was in govt. service for some time and I did not think of buying a land or build a house by the income. I was just concerned of maintaining my wife's crude needs, so that she does not run away. 5000 RS was my salary per month then as a section officer (now around 8000 Rs) per year 12 x 5000 = 60,000 RS to buy 1 anna of land , non-motorable (then) = 125000 I needed at least four annas 125000 X 4 = 6,00,000 Time taken to buy 4 annas of land 600000 / 60000 = 10 years cost of building a house aprox 700Rs/square foot If I build a house of 1000 sq. foot = 700 x 1000 = 700000 Time to earn 700000/5000 = 12 years Total time required to buy four annas of land and 1000 sq feet modest house 10 + 12 = 22 years. Do you think my wife would remain with me that long? No way. Where is the money for her needs and the kids that come along? What if I had to support the parents? Sometimes I wanted resign from the post and become a peon of some lucrative office.... Some one said: "Behind every great fortune there is a crime" I say: Behind every building there are crimes."

Anti-graft Royal commission unveils its working procedures - KOL News Report KATHMANDU, March 17 - The Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) on Wednesday said that it will detain any individuals for 30 days on charges of corruption. ?We have set the time frame by passing the working procedure to detain anyone on the charges of being involved in corruption,? The Himalayan Times quoted spokesman Prem Raj Karki as saying. Karki further confided in that the royal commission?s further working procedures will soon be made effective. The Royal proclamation of Feb 1 had authorised the anti-graft Royal commission to chalk out its working procedure by itself and take stern actions against those found indulged in corruption. ?Though we passed the working procedure, we haven?t fixed the time frame to decide any case,? Karki added. The commission now can investigate any case outside Kathmandu Valley as well. (hb)

Royal Commission quizzes two more ex-ministers: The Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) Tuesday interrogated two ministers of then Sher Bahadur Deuba government, Yuba Raj Gyawali and Jog Meher Shrestha, in connection with their alleged involvement in the arbitrary distribution of Dashain allowances to their party cadres and relatives. The RCCC released both on bail today. Gyawali, a senior CPN (UML) leader who was local development minister in then Deuba cabinet, registered his statement at the RCCC office in the afternoon. The RCCC has accused him of recommending for distribution of Rs.1.5 million out of the total Rs.4.5 million from the Prime Minister?s Relief Fund during last Dashain festival. ?We didn?t take or give any money personally. That was a cabinet decision,? he told reporters after the interrogation adding, ?What this government is going to do it is up to it.? Gyawali was released after he deposited property worth Rs.2.7 million as bail. Similarly, Shrestha, then physical planning minister, who is accused of arbitrarily distributing Rs.0.6 million out of the Fund, was interrogated by the commission members today. He paid Rs.1.3 million as bail for his release. RCCC spokesman Prem Raj Karki said on the interrogation, ?They were called for interrogation after information from various sources and our investigation proved that the fund was distributed by unlawful procedure.? Both the former ministers were summoned along with four others but did not appear at the RCCC. For the same charge, former ministers Dr Mohammad Mohsin, Purna Bahadur Khadka, Hom Nath Dahal and Badri Mandal were quizzed yesterday and were released on bail. News from Nepalnews.com, Mar 22 05

I speculated long time before that this will be the triumph card of G to curb the politicians out of the political picture. Other corrupts have to submit their selvs or be freinds with Shahi or Bajracharya or Mr. Sharad Chandra Shah etc. I wont be surprised if this committee has formed another committee just to submit names anonimously of all the people they want to eliminate. Some of the figures they interrogated is just for "Nautanki". If the committee decides those netas and officials were corrupt, the junta janardan will support the move. The committee has 500 names up to now, couple of thousands more to come.

King and CIAA must kick out these corrupt and criminals from Government Offices, Political parties and Any organization to establish clean, corrupt-less and crime-less democratic nation, political culture and good government. These criminals must not able to do any political and organizational works. They must do farming so they understand what is life and realities of Nepal and Nepalese. These criminals must be hang or punish by legal system to show Nepalese public truth of CIAA and King action.

If the King and his Govt. is not going to punish the worst criminals/corrupters first and instead squandering time in simply taking Bayans from small corrupters... then he himself willl be kicked out for sure. We need to see those faulters in Lauda, Dhamija, etc kandas first to be punished as quickly as possible.. and FIRE that fuc*king Sharad Chandra Shah.. He stinks.. we all know that... Kawasa Gyane , what the fuc*k are you doing?????

BBC News Nepal corruption body holds trio: The Royal Commission on corruption control in Nepal says it has taken three civil servants, including a top government employee, into custody. The director general at the department of forestry, Jamuna Krishna Tamrakar, is one of those held. The wide-ranging commission, which has the powers of a court, was set up by the king last month after he seized control of the country. The king said the previous government had failed to tackle Maoist rebels. Judge investigated The commission said Mr Tamrakar was arrested on the basis of a deposition made by the chief accountant at the same department. Earlier, the commission summoned six former ministers on charges of disbursing money arbitrarily from the prime minister's Relief Fund six months ago. A spokesman for the commission said the six had been asked to report in the next 10 days. The commission is also investigating alleged corruption involving Judge Birendra Kumar Karna of the district court of Pyuthan in mid-western Nepal.
