Finding a job should not be an issue, but finding the one that sponser you H1 shall be. Thus, it would be a great help if you can get some information regarding the policy of the companies you are applying for. Perhaps some sajhaities could be of some help. And another thing. GPA ain't even as issue as long as you do not have anything below 2.75...Anything above 3.00 is more than sufficient. And guess what 99.99% companies NEVER asks for your GPA. H1 socha, GPA bhaneko tyastai ho 3.00 & up. You have done your job. good luck, IndisGuise:)

What about GRE analytical score? Sometimes even postdoc applicants are asked how much they got in the GRE analytical section (the section has died since). That's what my friend Chanke kumar told me.

Guys getting a job is just as hard as finishing school. Yes, sad but true GPA and reference counts, and sadly enough, experience is 1st on this list. After finishing college, I was in home for 6 months searching for jobs. And i thought I had everything covered; citizenship, good GPA, 3 internship. Those who thinks being Green Card holder or citizen of the States makes it easy to get job, it's not entirely true. I know it is paticularly hard for internationl students, but I have seen some of my friends getting really good job with H1 offored. Lord knows how many types of resume and coverletter I have posted on who knows how many websites. All together, I have 50 different format of resume in my hard drive now. Well, giving numerous interviews, I have learned some very important lessons. Here let me share with you. - Send your resume and cover-letter to any companies that interest you. I am sure you'll be spending more time doing this than you ever spent on you school work. - When interview date comes, take a look at your text book for some techincal/professional terminalogies. And most important of all, know something about the company and its policy before hand , and try to come up with some questions regarding to their projects. Believe me when they'll tell you "Do you have any question?" They are not kidding. - Internship is very important. If you had one, more likely you'll be employed there, just like me. Good luck :) Don't loose your hope.

six string has given a very good scenario of finding jobs. and honestly..i am impressed particularly when he talked about "do you have any question?" after interview. hehehehe thats right... after interview they asked me the same.. and i realised they were not kidding too. and good thing is that... i liked one company and apply there.. and hit it. i should consider myself lucky too if i compare myself with my counterparts. 1) GPA surely counts.. but decision is not totally dependent on the basis of GPA. GPA will tell them about your learning habbit. 2) Good reference is another strong point about your finding job mission. Plan carefully where you are heading in future.. and major courses related to that field... try your best to get A on all those because particularly in my experience when they looked upon my transcript... they had a xerox copy on the table on the day of interview and hiring committee highlighted the grades that i had on the related courses i took. Try to keep in touch with professor and discuss with him/her about your interest and what you have learnt throughout the semester and what you liked the most and what you are yet to learn. and also do not hesitate to ask him that you are thinking about applying for job on different companies.. and ask him if he as any particular choice that he could suggest regarding the interest in the field you have shown. A lot of things revolve around the strong references you have. Your reference is a written statement that tells the companies what you have learnt and how trustworthy you are to hold the responsibility of the job you applied for. Never ever ignore your reference... and even if you graduated.. i suggest you keep in touch with ur prof. and update them about what you are doing..like working in any companies and learning what??? or doing research and learning what??? so that they will update data about you in their computer.. and when you tell them to send recommendation letter.. trust me you will be above the line of the candidates. now Its not secret anymore hehehehehehe 3) Experience in related field has major impact to answer them about what you have experienced and learnt so that you could give the insight of the work you have applied for as well as the degree of appreciation that you have for the rigors of the work. 4) They asked me if i am eligible to work not or too. And i was on OPT. After they hired me they told me by november (after six months of working there) they would sponsor H1 and thats what they did too. I am glad they were not like our political leaders about promises.. hehehehe . Nepal ma promise break garyo or responsibility pura nagarne lai law suit garne system nabhayera pani neta haru ko monopoly bha huna sakcha.. just a thought. 5) particularly we dont give much emphasis on it.. but companies are also focussed on the integrity you hold. they also like to know that you have the high moral and ethical value towards your responsiblities of the job. its just an extra point to make urself strong candidate in camparison to the ppl with similar education and work experience. HUspuppy! you have a good GPA 3.65 that is positive point. i graduated with 3.70 and i have Two B on my major classes (which is not very bad i guess but still i regret) but at the same time i hold job on campus in the related field of my studies to prepare myself for real work environment... but thats just partial truth.. i used to work in a restaurent to make extra money too. you should be very much optimistic.. and try to gain some work experience in the related field.. i am very positive you are indeed a strong candidate to get a job. and always think about what you should do the next to make urself stronger gradually. Good LUck from Coffee.

If you are looking to be sponsored for H1B, May is the good time to graduate. If you graduate in Dec, the quota for H1 for the following year might already be filled up. At least, thats what I heard from expert.

Neural, Can't say everything. DUKE's ..........School, ...........Dept. They are heavily into modeling. My friend and his potential employer had face to face talk for an hour (the two met at a conference) , then at that time the Prof. wanted to know his GRE analytical score.

.PQ, may be the Prof. simply wanted to know his z-r-e analytical score during conversation .... justo to know his analysis ability. However, for Postdoct or after Ph.D., no one demands for that except they focus on the applicant's PUBLICATIONS (especially in int'l journals) and contribution to his field. How is Chanke? Hope he din't have to give GRE for PD :)))

1. I see lots of companies listing jobs in Craiglistcom. Employers pays little or no money at all to put ads there. This is aslo a good place to start if you have not done so. 2. It is good to know little bit about the company you are going for interview and ready to ask some intelligent questions. 3. Be positive and help others which might bring you GOOD LUCK.
