Planning to start a family soon and recently got 91k job at midwest. I am thinking of buying a house in midwest and settle here. I have lived both in east coast and midwest and i dont think more salary/better job oppertunities/diversity in east coast is worth it considering the housing prices, crime rate etc.. I can find a nice house with plenty backyard in nice neighborhood for less than 300k in midwest, same house costs 450k+ in DC, virginia area. I am confident with my expereince (I am SQL DBA with 6+ years expereince) I can easily find job anywhere...Other place I am considering is dallas, texas area. The more I wait to buy house the more I am wasting my money on rent.. Any suggestion?

Dallas could be best option, lot of IT jobs, affordable living expenses, good place to have family but 300k is not enough to buy nice house big backyard in Dallas area nowadays. If you can stretch your budget to 400k you can find nice house in good neighborhood.

@gone12, 300 k not enough?? My few friends have bought houses in Euless area ...like you said "nice house big backyard" in less than 250K...Dont know if you are referring to some mansions...

@collegefootballrocks, Euless (??) I guess its Fort Worth ?? Well you may still find in Fort worth area, but like I said in nice neighborhood (Dallas), Irving , Plano, Frisco, Alen, nowdays 300k is not enough.
