Hi,

I need some help here. I sent my passport to DC for MRP on late February. However, now I need to go to Nepal for a couple of weeks. Is there a way I can contact them and ask my passport back if they haven't sent it to Nepal ? Is that how it works ?

Does anyone have any feedback on this ? I tried calling/emailing but haven't got any reply .

Thanks !

Seems like Nepal passport department received 930 applications from DC on March 10. Check on the name list if you are among them.

Even if you are not on the list, they might already be preparing for another shipment in this 1 month interval time. Good luck...

I suggest follow the link Ark has provided. If it has been send to Nepal, although I do not have first hand experience on this, you might be able to order temporary passport from the embassy for your urgent travel. Here is the info from Nepal embassy website:
B. Temporary Passport

Temporary Passport can be issued to the applicant who has duly applied for Machine Readable Passport and urgently needs to travel outside the USA during the processing of Machine Readable Passport. All Temporary Passports are valid until November 23, 2015. For Temporary Passport, you should request the Embassy in writing with the genuine and self-explanatory reason. The documents required are:- a request letter, a separate money order of $20/-, an additional return envelope and two photographs. Once the new Passport (MRP) is ready, you are required to send the temporary passport back to the Embassy for cancelation.

Ghintang, you can always request them for the passport since they wont send old passport to Nepal. I had requested mine to visit outside the USA by emailing them. They didnt reply the email but they send my passport in my return envelop. And after tracking my MRP in above link (Ark's link), I got to know it was in DC. And I send the old passport back along with return envelop to get the MRP. They dont inform you anything to send it back, you just have to send it back once you are done. It took almost a month to get my MRP after dispatching it from Nepal but everything worked out smoothly.

Is there any contact phone no to contact Nepal Embassy in DC. The one provided on the website doesn't work.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate.
I found that it is not sent to Nepal.

@diya05: Are you saying, you got your old passport back and still could get the MRP from DC ? I really hope at least they acknowledged my email.

Yes, I send my passport for MRP. After my MRP application was send to Nepal ( knew by tracking above site), I requested my old passport by emailing them (as I said they never replied me back) but they send my old passport after 1 or 2 weeks of my email. Once I was done with my old passport(after coming back from my visit- around 1 month), I send it back to DC to get my MRP and got both of my passport back after few weeks. I think they have to cancel your old passport so you have to send it back to get MRP. All the MRP process took almost 3 months.
Hope this helps.
