I tried to get DL and went to the office. I could not figure out the right process. There are 100s of helper to get you through and it is not crowded but over crowed, these guys will give you the best suggestions.

Get an International driver's license. Its valid for a year and costs $15.

International driving permit is valid for a year from its issue date, but it's valid only for 15 days in Nepal, thereafter u have to have nepalese license.

huh. Do you have a source, ny2? Last time I was in Nepal, I carried an IDL and I was fine during my entire stay. I even got away w/ driving a motorbike.

I also took IDL from AAA last time i went to nepal and used it for entire month, though never got stopped by a cop. In application form or somewhere, it mentioned Nepal is not part of that convention but honors it and is valid for just 15 days

In any case, Nepali traffic men don't really care when you're driving a private vehicle. My buddy flashed out his driver's license and they didn't really care.

During my last trip,I took one issued by AAA and I was never stopped.

A license is a must these days if you drive or ride in Nepal,especially in city areas.There are frequent checkpoints in almost all busy roads and sometimes the traffic folks can be seen on the very next bend of your house!...so it's better to be geared up with valid license so the issue of legitimacy of rider and driver ceases completely.helping the traffic to perform his duty smoothly while being a responsible janta....It certainly is a giant task to get a license from the Yatayat Bivag as many get lost inside the office,not knowing what to do and many get hopeless just by watching the toil and ruckus that ensue while making one..but it's good to have one so you can enjoy the travel without thinking about traffic cops and all....I was very keen on making one no matter what it takes, a new one than what I have with me from my SLC years..and I went there, discuss and chit chat with office folks of Yatayat on how everyone should be carrying their license and how it helps the cops and country as a whole and then I think I got my brand new valid license in less than 3 minutes( guiness world record!!..lol)..well I need it bad and I got it good.

Actually I am not going to use it in Nepal. I am going to use it in Australia because as a student I can just show my Nepalese license and student ID to drive. So if anybody have any idea, plz share..
