I was just going through some threads and it seems to me that most of the times, people tend to associate that coming to US for undergrad is like a curse. I don't really understand this... maybe there are some good insights you want to share with us.

I am an UG student and I know how hard it is. every summer, I went to OC and worked my arse off in order to make money for school. I survived. I think coming for masters is good economic-wise, but the very essence of assimilation is not met by just coming for Grad studies and getting lost in one of the research labs or so. I have seen so many people who still say "khaire le maile bhaneko bujhdaina...ani dherai garo huncha "mingle" garna"..... Agreed that it's a pain to struggle through college years, but I think you don't really understand what America is unless you come in here and learn to struggle as an UG student.
Don't get me wrong here, but most of us who just come here for Graduate studies get married pretty quick and are lost in their own world. No social life outside their own Nepali clique, and no idea of what's going on...
well maybe many of us think just by coming to US in order to get paid in $ terms is what our life is all about, but I don't think how one would appreciate the life-style here without understanding the fabrics of this society as well.
By this, I am not generalizing what every people say, but I definitely feel an urgency to point this out because the struggle I and many other UG students did/ are doing is definitely going to pay-off really well in future.

There are tons who are completely satisfied coming here just Graduate only programs and are making good money right off of masters, and many would reject to what I said, but my 2 cents would be: "please don't negate those who are struggling through their UG years... " ...once they start making money, they will appreciate it more and they will have an adrenaline rush when Cowboys play, Sons take their championships, (or whoever they support) and so on.

I'd love to hear what people think...

A graduate student is assumed to be fairly mature academically, and self-motivated to a large extent. Unlike undergraduate studies, emphasis here should be on obtaining deeper understanding of challenging and interesting subjects, and less on obataining high grades like undergrad. Naturally not all of you can become top rankers here, nor is it necessary as long as you gain a sound understanding and mastery of the subjects.

Graduate studies have other equally important or superior metrics for measuring performance. For example: how well you do in courses from a focused area of your interest and choice; how well you do in your dissertation work; may be even how well you do in academic work that you undertake beyond the classroom and project. This doesn't mean you do not strive to get the best grades. Getting superior grades is important but is only one of many aspects of the learning process .

I agree
Nepali people (like me when I came as UG) claim "Buji halcha ni"
You'll not get it if you don't live the life.Period.
Then again there're who says "Khub American Vhayees" just they cannot understand the life and the society.
