To be respected and independent, we should speed up our economy. Unless and untill majority of Nepelese are living in slums, lots of our brother and sisters working in India like a dog; how we expect rexpect from Dhotis. Let us start something new that will help Nepelese economy and reieive from dependency to other country. That project will generate lots of jobs to Nepelese and Nepalese only. After completion of the Project, it will reduce foriegn unnecessary iimport to burden Nepelese economy. My Idea is Electric tunnel train road to connect Kathmandu to Tarain. Benefits: 1) As the Chinese government is ready to build Train link from Tibet to Nepelese border-will open another "Silk Road" to India. 2) The Train link will save: lots of travelling time, money, fuel- saved time, money and fule will build another such big project in few years. 3) None but the Chinese will built the Tunnel and Supplies for the Train( we have very bad experience with American, German, Italian etc companies who are related to hydro power since last couple of years)-because they are hard working, cheap, reliable and well wisher of Nepelese- Most of the project they built previously in Nepal are best to Nepal and Nepal only-Bansbari leather factory,Gorakhkali rubber, Trolly bus, Arniko highway, Prithbi highway etc. 4) It will harness Hydro Power. 5) Divert big businesses, educational institutions, government offices etc to neighbouring cities and reduce density of Kathmandu. Let us start a company by hard working people living abroad .Guys come forward to calculate how much money we need and how many share holder should be involved? How much money(dollar) I have to save to have a share in the company and to be a part of Nation building effort. I am ready to do any type of work couple of more hours to add a brick in the nation building approach.Everybody knows living in USA, if you wish, job and Dollar is no problem. Any link and more information to " Hetauda Kathmandu Tunnel Link"?

raman. I appreciate your noble thinking but in my view hetauda ktm tunnel is a herculean task in terms of time and money. The unstaible geology of the region adds extra complication in getting the job done. And national planning commission has also been lookin into this alternative since way back. Infact the first prefeasibility studies were done in 1930's by some swiss team. More resources on NPC plan can be found int he following website. http://www.npc.gov.np/plan/latest/file/8th_plan/english/3.5%20Road%20and%20Other%20Transport.pdf If you are thinking about taking the inititation of construction of the project from private level, first thing we need is political commitment from our government, second thing we wud have to look into is, finances, and I am talking about the range of several hundreds of millions of dollars or possibly more and thats not easy. Yeah if some multinational company steps in with BOOT principle and give the ownership back to nepal lets say in 50 yrs frm now after the construction and operation and make their profit, in my view thats not a bad idea at all as well..

I found total project cost for the tunnel construction stands in between Nepelese Rupees 9 billion to 12 billion. If the Chinese comes forward to build the project, it wii go down drastically. If I wish to be a part of the project, Let me assume 5000 Nepelese working abroad will come forward or share hand to this noble cause. My share would be $ 26000 US dollar.I am sure I would be able to deposit my share in couple of years by the time the company comes in existance. I am starting to collect this sum from today! Let me know if sombody coming forward to start this job and collect advance from me in legal grounds will have my comliments, too .

Dear Raman, YOU HAVE VERY FINE THOUGHTS. I DO NOT WANT TO DISCOURAGE YOU BUT YOU MAY ALRREADY KNOW THAT IT IS NOT SO EASY. WE NEED SOME "SMART" PEOPLE OUT THERE IN POLITICS WHO CAN REALLY SKIP THESE SUCKERS(INDIAN POLITICIANS AN PLANNERS) WHO COME OUR WAY. WE HAVE A VERY GOOD NEIGHBOR OR SO AS WE SEE IE CHINA. CHINA WILL HELP US FOR SURE. BUT WE NEED SOMEBODY OUT THERE IN OUR POLITICS WHO ARE ACTUALLY CAPABLE OF "THINKINKING". WE NEED GOOD POLITICS.

Its already been planned and being surveyed. You will soon hear the announcements of project start in news papers. too late, someone else is doing it. Think of something new who is not doing it.

I think we need to have a national seminar regarding Hetauda-Kathmandu tunnel to be sponsered jointly by National Planning commission and NRN and involve all political parties and environmentalists, geographers, etc etc who could assess pros. and cons. of the tunnel ( assume there are big chunk of so called environmentalists like we had for Arun hydro project who oppose the idea) . We also need to reassess the previous studies and surveys done by NPC and other private companies. We all know this project will not be materialized unless we involve multisectors and get the national political commitment from all parties. We need to motivate NRN and NPC. Let's ask people who have personal relationship with NPC and NRN to request them to organize the seminar.

Raman jee, its a genuine idea to think about connecting kathmandu to Terai. Kathmandu to Hetauda is the best possible way that Terai could be connected to Kathmandu. Political commitment from the part of our government is necessary before doing that.
