I saw the topic of Caste Discrimination. I saw a lot of people hating it, few participating it. Well my point of view is that Good or Bad we need to talk it out loud. I believe that ours is the last generation to have this conversation so why miss the train.

If you look around and watch carefully, do you have any pure newars or bahuns around you? nor any Chhetris or Gurungs or Rais. The things are getting so vague that we are recalling people that we have seen rarely and commenting about them. Atleast its been a while I have seen a pure bahun who does path and maintains untouchability, a pure gurung who carries a khurpa, and myself being a newar hardly can speak newari.

In the near future no one will even remember what caste they belong to. I would like to compare the situation with the whites of US in the current day. I can imagine in the early 18th century when they flocked from Europe they had a lot of discrimination amongs themselves like English, French, Scottish, Irish and what not. But look at them now, there is nothing like that, any one talks about it looks stupid.

I think this is almost towards the end of the caste era. We are the last of the people who talk about it. So I think its okay to Caste Discriminate for a while, our sons and daughters won have that previlidge.

As we all know, caste discrimination is a very sensitive topic and emotions can run wild. In this thread, let's all agree to disagree or agree without using foul language and showing respect to each other at all times.

Lot of times we might need to look at things objectively than to identify with a stereotype and take things on a personal level.

Thanks for your kind consideration.

The only way to tackle badmouthing can be learnt from the following story.

A Brahmin Story
Author: Unknown

Lord Buddha was sitting under a banyan tree. One day, a furious Brahmin came to him and started abusing him.

The Brahmin thought that Buddha would reciprocate in the same manner, but to his utter surprise, there was not the slightest change in the expression on his face.

Now, the Brahmin became more furious. He hurled more and more abuses at Buddha. However, Buddha was completely unmoved. Actually there was a look of compassion on his face.

Ultimately the Brahmin was tired of abusing him. He asked, "I have been abusing you like anything, but why are you not angry at all ?"

Lord Buddha calmly replied, "My dear brother, I have not accepted a single abuse from you."

"But you heard all of them, didn't you?" The Brahmin argued half-heartedly.

Buddha said, "I do not need the abuses, so why should I even hear them?"

Now the Brahmin was even more puzzled. He could not understand the calm reply from Buddha.

Looking at his disturbed face, Buddha further explained, "All those abuses remain with you."

"It cannot be possible. I have hurled all of them at you," the Brahmin persisted.

Buddha calmly repeated his reply, "But I have not accepted even a single abuse from you ! Dear brother, suppose you give some coins to somebody, and if he does not accept them, with whom will those coins remain?"

The Brahmin replied, "If I have given the coins and not needed by someone, then naturally they would remain with me."

With a meaningful smile on his face, Buddha said, "Now you are right. The same has happened with your abuses. You came here and hurled abuses at me, but I have not accepted a single abuse from you. Hence, all those abuses remain with you only. So there is no reason to be angry with you."

The Brahmin remained speechless. He was ashamed of his behavior and begged for Buddha's forgiveness.

Inner calmness and peace are keys to contented life.

Seriousely, I am not sure why the Brahmin was so furious with The Buddha at that time.

Zingkira, I am not trying to offend you but if you go to sajha archives, you will see thousands of threads that talk about caste discrimination. WHy do u think we need to start one more topic? I think talking face to face about such topics would be better as anyone could misinterpret what someone else was trying to say in a forum. That could lead tomore hatred ...

And it has been done so many times that its like getting up everyday and talking about the same thing over and over. After a few times it gets boring and makes no sense! Dont you agreee?
