Are we debating over whether killing cow is gud or bad? Well if that's the case, then we have a common sentiment. We shouldn't. However, for those of us who have had beef, we were either very young when we came here, or arent very religious, in which case, they're both valid reasons because in the first one we weren't conscious enough to differentiate, and in the latter, you dont give a a crap about a lot of the religious beliefs. However, for those of you who CLAIM to be hindu, myself and other, i think it's hypocritical to eat "meat", and swear and do things that we're not supposed to and still call ourselves hindus. Kuro milena ni. Tyasaile, if you eat any meat, cow khanu thulo kuro haina, but because we have a tradition of sacrificing goat and other livestock to goddesses during festivals like dashain, consuming mutton and chicken or buffallo aint that bad, but slaughtering cows, the animal we refer to and look up to as mothers, who literally feed us their milk, is kind of a psychological barrier that we face. it's hard.
But there's feta cheese and goat milk, we consume both. what about that eh?

. well, we don't have to go to feta (sp?) cheese or goat milk. the milk that we buy in packets or bottles in nepal has buffalo milk in it (as well as cow milk and powdered milk). so...what about momos?

This archaic law and belief should be abolished. Holding onto Hindu edict is not going to get us anywhere but backward in time. People who eat cow have gone to explore starts and moons and we still are still debating if cow should be considered for food or not. Come on people, we have to face the fact that it’s not what we eat matters but what we say and do. What ever we consume will return as waste so that’s the big deal.

Even manslaughter does not get this severe punishment.

This Hindu edict has been forced on the indigenous people of Nepal. When it comes to food my entire Brahmin friends have no problem with alcohol and meat anymore. Their father and uncles is no stranger to alcohol, buff momos and chicken roast. And I dare say, Brahmins who have traveled outside of Nepal have eaten chicken, pork and yes beef, too.

I oppose cow slaughter.
There should be a severe punishement by law to prevent cowslaughter.

But, we all differ or concur in our views. Thats what this sajha is for I suppose.

Panga linu parla jasto chha , saathi haroo sanga.

Waibaforce,
To clarify ur statement, which is erroneous to start with, Hinduism is not a pet religion of Brahmins....It is the religion of all Hindus worldwide...granted in different forms and traditions....Even PITA (a Christian organization for animal rights) opposes slaughtering animals...much less cow...

About going to the Moon by eating Cows or going backwards by not consuming cows...I think gaijin said it best. Hell, u might say, smoking is good, coz u get to releive ur stress...or doing drugs for that matter....

I don’t think I am suggesting that consuming lamb or beef leads to higher intelligence. The example that I used is to show that what we eat or don’t eat. I would be a fool, and you would be a fool also to believe that killing a cow or any other animal leads tohigher learnings and exploration of starts and moons. My point is that it does not make difference what we eat. Human have eaten human out of desperation.

KnightCrawler,

I don't believe Hinduism is a world religion; it is not widely practiced all over the world as you state. Hinduism is confined to very small part of the world; it has very narrow views of people of other faith. In order to a Hindu you have to be born in to one. Taking all these tenants in to consideration, I do believe is a pet religion of Brahmins.

Granted Hinduism is not as prevalent as Christanity or Islam....Becoz Hinduism does not believe in aggressive so called "religious" recuritment. You can't tell me they don't do that....Christanity does that by the power of money, and Islam by the power of fear and hatred. I am not saying that's the only way, but majority of conversion to Christianity and Islam takes place in that fashion.

About Hindusim being practiced all over the world, I just consider your views rather "Narrow". Google for Hindu Temples around the world, I assure you, you will see one if not more in every corner of the world. I am not trying to preach Hinduism nor am I trying to convince you on anything. You are entitled to your opinion, but in no way is Hindusim a pet religion of one caste........A faulty presumption on ur part.......

Knightcrawler,

To say that spread of Christinity is based on power of money and Islam with fear and hatred is an anathema to people whom genuinely seek spiritual transformation. Maybe to you Islam is all fear and hate but to millions who have embrace this faith is their existence.

Without a doubt there are Hindus all over the world but there numbers are minute minority if you can call minority. One Hindu temple is Boston, London or Johannesburg or few Hindus in each city does not make it a world religion. You can say Rastafarian is a world religion too, embraced and celebrated by people all over the world.

Brahmins being the superior race by birth subordinates and subvert people of lower cast with complex theories and belief. They are the keeper of faith by birth so if it’s not their pet religion I don’t whose it is?

I think we are getting off the topic. I better stop. Issue here is HOLY COW...
