I am a GA at the school and just filed my tax (1040 NR) and it says that i need to pay around $600 whereas i thought we do not have to pay any amount at all ? THis is my first year at US and never done this TAX thing before Anyone...Please help

File form 8863 and take the education credits if you are eligible. That will reduce your liability.

Sheetalb, that sounds reasonable for GAs. I am also a GA and had to pay little more than 900$. It all depends on your income. I think we will be eligible for other credits after 5 years. But have to keep on like this for now

File with 1040 EZ. You will save money. That is what I used to file while in school.

Sheetalb--Yeah, that sounds about right. You'll have to pay tax on the stipend part of your GA-ship. The tuition-waiver is tax-free. F-1 students can't file form 8863. At least that's what I was told when was a student... Harris probably knows it better.
