Hi Friends, I saw one News in Today's Kantipur,You can read the news. This News talk about How Ranas lotted our country and how they are still enjoying the fruits of Such loot Happily.More than 50 percent Nepalis are too poor even to maintain their basic requirements and these Ranas and sahas can go for african safaris for months. Those all money comes either from loot conducted by their ancestors or from state treasurey.I HOPE ONE DAY THE MOMENT WILL COME WHEN ALL THE ILLEGAL AND ILL-GOTTEN PROPERTY OF THESE LOOTERS WILL BE NATIONALISED ANDm DISTRIBUTED AMONG POOR NEPALIS............I hope that the day will come soon. Ranas hunt for ancestral treasures BY SURENDRA PHUYAL NEW DELHI, Feb 24 - Several descendents of the Ranas are dusting off old documents from their 'sanduks' and shelves and are arriving in India for treasure hunting. Like the descendent of Chandra Shumsher [1901-1929] who hunted shares, debentures and assets worth nearly Indian Rs 10 million five years ago, most of them are succeeding too. Dating back to the reign of the East India Company that ended in 1947, influential Nepali rulers, governors, their relatives, 'Bhai-bhardars' had invested millions and millions of rupees -- in shares, debentures, bank accounts and prime assets such as real estate and properties -- in India. And many of them, documents obtained by the Post reveal, have succeeded in reclaiming valuable assets and properties. The Chandra Shumsher offspring [who wants to remain anonymous], for instance, started the treasure hunt in 1995. It all started after the a Delhi assets tracer, Jiwan Lal, found annual reports of several Indian companies -- more than half of them cease to exist today -- at his Jawalakhel residence. An enquiry was held with 24 companies that existed and "19 companies confirmed that the [Rana's] shares were still there," says the young Rana. He's not alone. The offspring of Bir Shumsher [1885-1901] became successful in reclaiming shares and "back dividends" from 40 out of the 60 companies in India, following of course, the labyrinthine process of succession. That starts with the acquisition of a succession certificate from the high court in the area. And it's definitely worth it. In all, the Bir Shumsher descendent reclaimed 12 million Indian rupees from the companies' shares and dividends. "After selling all his shares, today he's living happily in Kathmandu," say Jiwan Lal. "He's leading a luxurious life like many of his forefathers." Since 1994, Jiwan Lal's firm has already helped nearly a dozen Nepalis -- most of them descendents of Rana Prime Ministers [who ruled Nepal between 1846 -1950] or their close aides such as Shahs, Thapas, Acharyas, Dixits, Joshis, Manandhars and Shresthas -- reclaim treasures "illegally siphoned away" by their rich and (in)famous forefathers. Consider these historical facts: *Around 1850, the 'Great Rana Prime Minister' Junga Bahadur Rana established a national treasury and deposited Rs 110 million. That treasury was indiscriminately exploited. His successor Chandra Shamsher extracted 45 million rupees on two separate occasions. Bhim Shamsher [1829-1932] exploited part of that. Later, Juddha Shamsher [1932-1945] collected a large sum of donations following the 1934 earthquake - again to exploit. *Around that time, the wage of an unskilled laborer was just Rs 0.02 and that of an artist was Rs 0.48. *Chandra Shamser had offered Rs 800,000 in cash, silver equivalent to Rs 2.5 million, cardamom equivalent to the sum of Rs 40,000, tea leaves equivalent to 84,699 pounds, 2 hundred jackets, 12 long coats and 220 saal trees to the British rulers around the time of World War I. *A portion of loan was however returned after World War I [1914-1918] during Chandra Shumser's reign. After that secret deal, Chandra Shumsher distributed Rs. 90,000,000 in pure silver to each of his 9 sons, and a separate amount ranging from 20 to 40 million 'silver rupees' to each of his four surviving brothers. *The last Rana Prime Minister Mohan Shamsher migrated to Bangalore in South India, where his palatial bungalow has been turned into a museum today. Rana Prince-turned Nepali Congress leaders Subarna Shamsher and Mahavir Shamsher inherited prime properties in Kolkata. They also owned India's first private airline, Himalayan Aviation, around the 1940s. The aircraft were also used to distribute pamphlets before 1950. Historians (Pramod SJB Rana, Dhundi Raj Bhandari, M.P. Shrestha) conclude that the Ranas and their 'Bhai-bhardars' made investments in India because much of what they owned was ill-gotten. Things started changing after democracy came to Nepal in 1950 [Falgun 7, when King Tribhuvan returned home ending his brief exile in India]. Even so their legacy remains. And the investors were far-sighted, too. "The Chandra Shamsher offspring, for example, continues to boast an 1852 East Indian Company debenture certificate with a face value of IRS 5,000," says Jiwan Lal. "Recently, somebody at the London Auction House offered IRS 800,000 for that, but he didn't sell it." Currently, Jiwan Lal's firm is studying some old documents produced by a Rana and a Shrestha family, respectively. The first one -- a register, dated April 1958 -- talks about a sum total investment of IRS 169,130 in several pre-1947 Indian jute mills and tea estates. The second one -- a note book believed to have been maintained in the early 1950s -- talks about clearance of IRS 426,000 plus as tax and penalty to the Indian government. "If this guy paid so much tax way back in the '50s he could have been a multi-billionare by now," he says, seated in his north Delhi home-cum-office. But the problem is this: much of such ancient properties and investments in India have been nationalized by the post-1947 governments. The third most interesting bounty-hunting success story involved a Juddha Shumsher offspring from one of his house-maids-turned wife, or the "C" grade Rana. He acquired nearly Indian 8 million rupees. "He's in Kathmandu these days happy and spending time playing Bridge."

There is no point of praising any ranas for one military hospital, one darbar school and etc. You know that also was not made for all the people, Do u think that the people of say HUmla or taplejung at that time could go and study In darbar school.Darbar School was made for their sons, grand sons, and relatives only and some people who had access to Ranas........It was not for common people. So, why we think that Ranas did a good job............Even Singha Darbar and narayanhiti was for the private use and there are a lot of Darbars in Kathmandu which were used for their sons. some have been nationalised after 2007 BC Revolution.......... Still some people think that ranas did Good? Some Ranas are good , and that is exception............. Once I read in HIMAL Khabar Patrika Long Time back that, when British wanted to live India in 1947 AD, then, the Governor General of British India of that time told Nepalese Rana Prime Minister that take ur darjeeling Back in Nepal that we had won in battle fought during GIRWANYUDDHA BIKRAM SHAH..............U know what Rana PM told, No, we do not need Darjeeling because people there are educated and Nepalese people are not, If Darjeeeling Comes in Nepal, Nepalese people also will be educated and there will be revolution against us...............Thuuka Muji RANA PM ko buddhi???????? Still some people think that Ranas were Good????

Ranas are a bunch of pricks. They looted not only magars, rais, thapas, gurungs and all other janjatis, but bahuns and chettris as well. What happened in the past was that whenever a bahun would protest against the Rana regime, his caste would be stripped away. In other words, he became an untouchable. There are so many of these cases. Stop blaming bahuns, you fukwads. We brought democracy to Nepal, which by the way the Thakuris/Ranas have taken away. Furthermore, the biggest supporters of Maobadis are Magars. What baburam, Prachanda and their ilk have done is that they have promised Magars and other janjatis autonomy. These are self-hating bahuns we are talking about. Hell, Baburam has a Newari wife. This guy is a bahun? LOL, give me a fuking break. Baburam has managed to stir anti-bahun sentiments that was in fact already there especially in the Magar community. He has managed to take it up a notch. Maoists are essentially a janjati force. Magars, Gurungs, Rais, Tamangs and all other groups have always been anti-bahun. Yes, even though the crux of the matter is that all blame falls squarely on Rana shoulders. This Magar autonomy issue was brought up by a Magar leader. I forget his name. Hell, there are parties out there that exploit anti-bahun sentiments. Listen here you jerks, if you are so against us bahuns, first of all, stop speaking Nepali. It is our language. Speak whatever language you janjatis speak. I'm getting tired of this tirade against bahuns. Isn't it a bit hypocritical that you blame us for all wrongs committed against you(which Thakuris and Ranas were primarily responsible for), yet you try to embrace our culture. If I were Nepal's leader, there would be no national language called Nepali anymore. Speak your Magar bhasha or whatever you speak. Let's see how you communicate with 40% of Nepal's population(bahuns/chettris). Tamangs make what, 3% of Nepal's population? Magars make, what 10%? Gurungs, another 4 or 5%? Go ahead speak your own languages. We're tired of your anti-bahunism. Go ahead, start a civil war. Protect your culture. Don't embrace the pahari juggernaut. Of course, in a democracy, the majority will always rule. Guess what, bahuns and chettris combined are the biggest block in Nepal. If you don't like us, then avoid us.

Thugged out!!!!!!!!!I slightly agree with u.I did not want to turn this thread as a expression of caste hatred and I refrained from it.Bahuns have done a lot of things that are great in Nepal. In Education, their role is very great.Who blames bahuns are just thug and mug who do not want to take part in nation building and runs away from Nepal to hongkong or to US and just blames Bahuns.................Bahuns are great..........but let's refrain from making any bitter comments depending on caste.rather there deeds will tell the histoty

To: "1whocandie4u" Above His or Her comments "Who blames bahuns are just thug and mug who do not want to take part in nation building and runs away from Nepal to Hong Kong or to US..." He or She doesn't know that..... In Nepal, More than 95% crimes and corruption link with Bahuns and Chettris. More than 96% Bahuns and Chettris are currently in government offices and 7 political parties and Maoist which they cause Nepal democracy and developments are collapsing. More than 98% Bahuns and Chettris break the Law, Orders, Rule and Regulation of Nepal. So Nepal Law, Order and Justice Systems had already collapsed. Justice systems have just a name but they just do not function. And constitution is same way, too. They looted national wealth from bank, projects and national treasury and more than 90% Bahuns and Chettri escape from Nepal to foreign countries. It is not about Hate…. It is about Truth and Reality…. Which true Nepali and Nepal suffer since 7 decades. It is not bluff …. Can you see just in front of your eyes and nose.

"In Nepal, More than 95% crimes and corruption link with Bahuns and Chettris" Using your logic, we can also surmise that 95% of Nepalis who engage in drug trafficking, prositution, smuggling, murder, are so-called "janjati" group as well. It's hilarious to me that you blame bahuns for corruption. Well, guess what, that's like blaming Whites for corruption in America granted that Whites control America's politics. Furthermore, in America, most criminals tend to be blacks. In Nepal, it seems to me that most criminals are so-called "janjatis". Blame is a two-way street. You can call us corrupt all you want. We think you people are a bunch of lazy, wife-beating, pot-smoking, ever-complaining, deadbeats. It's very interesting to observe some of the parallels between kales and so-called janjatis and gores and bahuns. It's high time that you figured out that your people are on the verge of ruin, and us bahuns have nothing to do with it. It's your culture that sucks. So go back to Nepal and do something about it instead of bitching and whining about how bahuns are chors and gundas. I am tired of listening to some stupidity displayed in this thread. Don't blame us if your people like to laze around swatting flies.

To prove my point, here's a good example. His name ends with "ghale". How typical. http://www.nepalnews.com/ Nepali arrested in Bangkok Thai police Monday arrested a Nepali, Birkha Ghale from Bangkok airport while attempting to smuggle marijuana into Thailand, agencies said Tuesday. Ghale, 29, will be convicted for 15 years if he is proved guilty, the agencies said without giving details about his identity.

Guys...........Do not try to misunderstand anybody wrongly here. There is problem with Manu's Rule depending on casteism. You can not change ur caste and caste does not make people crminal or not. There is neither any evidence nor any one can prove this but little trend shows that janajatis work in army, and they go foreign land.Bahun cheetris being a majority and according to sashtras also, they work as a priest and they have to study and after studying, they get job...........I do not think any one can come up with any concrete proof that shows bahun destroyed Nepal. The fact some body presented here is just a mere co-incidence and instead of bahuns, if there were any one like magar, rai, limbu or say whoever, the situation would not be different........Guys cool down

1Whocandie4U, you did good job posting Surendra Phuyal's story. Ranas have looted the country and its obvious for a Rana Descendent like Mahakal ( Are you ?) to charge back Bahun as these were the Bahun led movement that toppled the Rana Regime and restroed the Shahas on the throne. But what Rana's have lost yet except the title of Shree 3? They are still surrounding the king and sucking the blood of Nepalese people. Leaders of major political parties happened to be Bahun but it should not be generalized and made a racial issue. Traditionally, Bahuns studied Veda, Bhagabat Gita, Upanishada and they were considered smarter people but in modern world, every body has equal opportunity and can become as smart as a Bahun.

Yo Guys... Talking about Bahun and chhetris'....hmm...There is no doubt they are intellectual that other castes. Dun take me wrong....my mother is chettri and dad is Rai////... Just think about the rituals and tradition is so called....matwali group////.. Alcohol has always played the major role in the particular caste. That means....during pregnancy..matwali women consumes alcohol. as well as pork .and as it is the fact that it will adversely affect the fetus. So...most of the matwalis...are high tempered...& also have some symptoms of ADHD....well it maynot be in the data..but...I have seen a lot of my collegues... That doesnt mean I m generalizing..this is just my opinion...In the other hand...bahun do consumes a lot of fruits and dairy products.... Obviously....what we eat during pregnancy plays a vital role and has great impact on the children. Enough Crap abt the food and alcohol...My point is STOP ALL THE BULL SHIT ABOUT THE CASTE AND HATRED TO EACHOTHER,...MUJA MUJI HARU U R THE PARASITE IN THE HUMAN FORM....INSTEAD OF TRYIN TO MAKE A PEACEFUL COMMUNITY, JATHA JATHI HARU KHALI JAAT BHAT KO KURA GARCHHA... PEACE OUT
