This man was probably immediately seized by army. He would have been subjected tobeatings with bamboo poles and plastic pipes, kicking with boots, electric shock to the ears, rolling rods over the thighs, jumping on thighs and legs, maintenance of stress positions, hanging upside down on a pole and beating on the soles of the feet and blindfolding and handcuffing "suspects" for prolonged periods. If he survived he would be an exception amont the many who did not survive these tactics. If he survived would he be willing to do the same thing. Let's hope he did and that he would.

shiv I am sure it is middle finger. just count the fingers from the pinky, ring and middle which is standing ( I mean the middle finger). Well, I am not sure if that man knows what he is doing? It might be just an co-incident. In nepal many people do not know about it.

Look again. If it was the index finger, the hand would be pointed forward, as in the "we are number one" sign. This is the middle finger and the index finger is seen in the down ward position behind the middle finger. This is an incredible picture. Why can't you believe that someone in the present circumstances would not have the "cojones" to do it.

I agree, in Nepal middle finger does not mean anything.. however that is not the middle finger.

No matter which finger it is but just look out those crowds how much they have respect to monarchy? This is great "Jhapad" by Nepalese people to those who are advocating "republicanism". Those who have normal eyesight it is crystal clear that which finger it is.

Check the line between the middle finger and index finger. If you look carefully you will see that the middle finger is bent. If you still cannot see it print it out in cland use magnifying glasses ;-)
But big deal, it does not make any difference weather it is a middle finger, index finger or a punch that was showed to Gyane he will continue to do what he is doing until he is kicked out or the moaists are kicked out ..

have to agree with Shiv bro..the middle finger is 'lying' down...i still think its a photoshop trick..its just a 'punch' and the shaky blurry finger was added(not that bad a job if it was photoshop..but not that great either..but a nice one ;o)..that is if it is a photoshop job :oD ) anyone notices that only the finger is blurry and shaky in the whole pic?or is it just me?
