London Olympics: Tharu stands 13th out of 29 in 100 m race
Nepal's athlete Tilak Ram Tharu finished 13th out of 29 in Saturday's 100 m race in Men's category of the London Olympics.
Tharu completed the race in 10.85 seconds, improving his previous record of the 11 seconds. He was the last Nepali athlete to play in London Olympics.
Four other players – athlete Pramila Rijal, swimmers Shreya Dhital and Prasiddha Jung Shah and shooter Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana are already out of the tournament, showing lackluster performance.
HE DIDNT WIN BUT BROKE OUR OWN NATIONAL RECORD.
His coach Tika Sedai said Tharu had started off brightly but could not carry the momentum in the closing stages. “We are happy that he improved his personal timing, but he could have done a lot more had he not slumped in the closing stages,” he said.
Tharu blamed the London weather for his ‘dismal performance’ and underscored the importance of regular training if Nepali athletes were to match strides with the rest of the world.
