If we were to capture sajha's demographic, what would it be?
I would ask for San's help in answering this question since he probably knows this best.
5% - other
15% - still living in Nepal
25% - left Nepal 10-20 years ago
30% - left Nepal 5-10 years ago
25% - left Nepal 0-5 years ago
Of those living in America:
7% - US Citizens
12% - Greencard
12% - F1 visa
5% - J1 visa
7% - out of status and illegal
50% - H1 B Visa
7% - other
50% - 20 somethings
30% - 30 somethings and 40 somethings
20% - other
45% college students
45% professionals
10% other (housewives, business owners, kids)
Income level -
3% - $100,000 or more
7% - 70k - 100k
20% - 50k - 70k
30% - 30k - 50k
20% - 20k-30k
10% - below 20k
80-90% men
10% - women (I'm probably being generous here)
40% would be from other Zones other than Bagmati -
1.Bagmati - 60%
2.Bheri -
3.Dhawalagiri
4.Gandaki
5.Janakpur
6.Karnali
7.Koshi
8.Lumbini
9.Mahakali
10.Mechi
11.Narayani
12.Rapti
13.Sagarmatha
14.Seti
Your guess?

Hi Babal Khatey
here is some demographics from Alexa.com
The information cannot be 100% or even anywhere closer to being accurate but it provides a benchmark. Alexa relies on users installing the alexa toolbar in order to come up with the demographics and not many sajha users have that toolbar installed.
In the graph below the zero position is the average value in internet. If it goes red then it means how much less than average and if it goes green, it means how much more than average.

Neo,
That is excellent information! Great job.
It's good to see where my hypothesis of numbers stands with Alexa.com's statistics. Neither them or I are 100% correct, but it gives us both a benchmark for people like you and I. No?

Chaurey,
If you want to help, I need help interpreting the data that Neo has presented.
It would be good to figure out what the "average value on the internet" is that Alexa.com is referring to. This way we can figure out where sajha stands in relation to this average. This statistics would be great information.

Ha ha Bodmas, I love it. Dude, it shows that you have a lot of confidence in yourself to be able to laugh at yourself. Ok, I will create a story to go along with that picture you posted.
The average sajha user: Someone come up with a name for this guy. Any suggestions for the name of 'the average sajha user?'
Bodmas, since you came up with the picture, you choose the name:
So this is my profile for the average sajha user so far. I will make any changes to this profile as you guys make suggestions. And guys, remember that this is a caricature only done for fun, ok? So no one take it personally. This person represents the average of all of us. It is not anyone of us in particular.
Profile for the average sajha user: Ram Prasad
Ram Prasad is a nerdy looking dude, who wears glasses. He has a pimply face, and enjoys scouring through sajha pages in his free time. He has a nasal laughter that makes a honking noise when he reads about a clever remark made by his fellow sajha-basi. He enjoys making fun of other people. He has chhwanke bange teeth.
When Ram Prasad types remarks on sajha, he tries very hard not to get caught in a put down. He scans the 'kurakani' section for Visa updates and job openings, reading up on difficulties other students and fellow Nepalese are having. He gives and receives advice, careful not to reveal too much personal information out of fear that someone might make fun of him. He feels a little envious reading about the luxurious Nepalese who are more settled in America. Looks for their advice and guidance and admires them but he feels a little jealous also. He hopes to be where they are in a few years.
Ram Prasad scans sajha at his college lab computer or when he is doing his gas station job. In between doing his homework and his job, he checks out sajha to escape from his mundane reality.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What else should I add? Suggestions?

@Bodmas: Ram Prasad sounds fantastic. Meet Ram Prasad.
@ anon: I know there are huge chunks missing. That is why I need feedback from people like you. Why don't you help me fill the gaps. Tell me what else is missing and I will start to fill it.
