guys, cool down! Nepal is an earthquake prone zone, so once in a while people are made aware of such catastrophic earthquake and its aftermath.. There are too many channels in Nepal these days and these are just a mere exaggeration of a likely event by the media! Had anyone been able to correctly forecast an earthquake, Haiti wouldn't have to suffer as much as they did! So, relax and think these as just a media's propaganda to confuse the general viewers!
Let's pray that Nepal have to never face such devastation, and after all that works is prayers!

It is good to see that people are finally talking about this in Nepal.
Here is an article that was published a while ago in the US!

Vastavikta kai kura garne ho bhane, there is no scientifically proven method to predict an earth quake this far ahead.There are different theories people have come up with (like if the count of lost dogs in a neighborhood goes up) but none are proven scientifically.

With that information you can conclude that what you heard is not true. But like most said, Nepal being in the epicenter, we can have earthquake anytime. best thing to do is teach your family what to do when there is an earthquake and where to store essential foods/items in case of one.

@Geology Tiger
I don't know too much about Geology, but is this some good news that this earthquake took place? May be this relieved some pressure brewing between the tectonic plates. There was a smaller quake a few months back in some other place too. Is it possible that these small quakes will play a balancing act and release some pressure so that a massive earthquake is averted? Also, there was quite a big quake in 1988, (6.6 richters) in the Indo-Nepal border, with more damage occuring in the Nepal side. Do you think another earthquake is quite on the cards yet?

@ hakim saab,

Thanks for your question. But the answer of your question is probably not. The Indian plate is subducting beneath the Tibetian plate along the whole Himalayan range with different subduction rates at different places. Stress is building up along the whole Himalayan front regardless of subduction rate. As a result of this stress buildup we are getting all these earthquakes. But if an earthquake occur in the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan it will not help to release the stress accumulated in Central Nepal. We had some earthquakes events in eastern Nepal and also towards west of Nepal in India. But there is no record of significant earthquake in the central part of the Nepal which is termed as the seismic gap of central Nepal by scientists. It is not necessary that only big earthquakes can release the accumulated energy due to plate tectonics. Infact several small scale earthquakes  occur every day which also release the accumulated energy. However, to balance the total movement of Indian plate these small scale earthquakes are not sufficient, it requires some big events. I couldn't find my earlier post in Sajha where I have posted one figure clearly showing the seismic gap and other things.

Sooner or later big earthquake is inevitable in Nepal. And we need to pay serious attention on planning how we can avoid the disasters that will occur as the aftermaths of that earthquake.
