I have decided to get baptized and become a Catholic. I am in the US and know that my parents are going to be upset about this decision. They will probably disown me.

I want to know what kind of reaction I should expect from other Nepalese? My high school friends? Relatives?

I come from a middle-class family in Kathmandu. I went to St. Xavier’s School and NIST College.  I have been going to a Catholic University in California for the last two years.

I am very impressed by my catholic friends and their lifestyle. I have also had a lot of experiences that has helped me gain a testimony of the Bible. Having said that, I don’t think any particular religion is good or bad. I just think Christianity makes more sense to me and works for me better. Just like Hinduism or Judaism might make more sense to someone else.I am by no means a religious fanatic and don't plan to talking about religion all the time or trying to convert other people. I am just trying to know what kind of reaction I should expect back in Nepal when people find out I have converted to Christianity.

@everyone--A recurring theme in everyone’s response has been that I might be after some kind of a financial benefit just like the many helpless poor Nepalese that are being converted in the villages of Nepal.  You guys don’t know me personally so I won’t be able to fully convince anyone but the truth is I will gain no “materialist” benefit from this conversion.

@ meek__misfit ---"I was just curious to know if you would get a significant amount of fee charge deduction if you convert yourself. An answer is optional." Answer: I already have a four-year full scholarship and will not have to pay any tuition irrespective of my "religion" as long as I maintain a 3.0 gpa. So "fee deduction" is not an issue.@meek_misfit-- I initially got the scholarship because of good SAT II and SAT I scores. 3.0 gpa every year is just to maintain the scholarship. A lot of universities offer scholarships like that. They give you a four-year full scholarship but require that you maintain a certain gpa to keep that scholarship. If you are serious about wanting to know the school, send me an e-mail via sajha and I will email u.

Sorry guys, I had to delete some of the posts.I hope no one got offended. I apologize for it (if you did get offended). I have realized that a lot of people get offended if I delete their posts so I will NOT DELETE any posts anymore. Again, I am sorry for deleting some posts.

P.S. I am sorry if it's annoying to read me post the replies apologizing to people but it seems like a lot of people got offended. So I am writing replies addressed to those people.

Wake up you HOMO, teenage boy molesting Catholic A-hole. Why delete my posting?

You will be ridiculed by Nepali friends. They'll beat you up when they are drunk.Your family will curse you, disown you. They will not welcome you in thier house, no chad puja for you, your father will cut you off from your family aansa. You'll be left alone. No Nepali women will marry you and you'll end up with a ugly white woman, who will divorse you within few years.

All looks good for you Cum-face.

Man it is easy to understand. We did not use any deragotory language or tone neither are we trying to make you follow what we say.

We just expressed our opinion on whatever way we can or wanted so either don't start a thread or accept whatever comes. If someone is ridiculing you that will be seen by all if you don't delete and everyone will know his/her character. Deleting the posts for whatever excuses just show your weakness.

Again making myself clearer in case u didn't understand the deleted post :

I don't believe in religion so before I try to come to answer your question about baptism and the response of Nepalese, I would surely put forward my view that your question is wrong to start with as religion is not the answer to whatever u r looking for.

About Shivasena thing, that is one religious fanatic group and more of a political wing. In Nepal a lot of people are being converted to Christianity and I have never heard that anyone is killed because they became Christian. So, your fear is unnecessary. Whereas for your immediate family, it is very hard to swallow as they have lived their whole life following a different norms and value system so they certainly will be disappionted with you. Their reaction will be based on the level of understanding they have.

Further how can you be happy in Heaven when all your family and friends are suffering in hell???????

Bible says only Christians go to heaven and your angry God will not let any other people in heaven So have fun in heaven with the American friends that you like. Prepare yourself to look at your family as bunch of sinners that will make you feel better.

Good Luck with whatever you choose. It is your life and you can believe. I would however suggest you not to distance yourself from your famuly and friends for as ridiculous thing as religion.

@ Bob : If you were not able to read my ealier post , I have admitted that I was wrong in the way I sounded as I later read your post and I found that you have clearly mentioned thst you r not a Christian. I quoted you or aimed you there without proper information from your post. Sorry about that.

Namaskar

Thanks buddy. I did read your posting. But Mr Confused here deleted our perfectly fine (OK bit distracted) discussion. What a shame. I was on your favor Mr Confused and have lots of respect to your faith, but apparently you cannot to digest simple things written online, how exactly can you face real people with issues against your faith? Grow up.

don't answer this brainwashed poosey who can't take even fair criticism by deleting your post yet seeks advice for public attention. I have been with these so called christian  group trust me, they will advertise themselves for your attention but cease and desist policy when someone questions their motive. You are just advertising your presence to this community to mock other religion by creating innocent look like discussion while hoping to count venoms towards religion/societies that is not cool to born again christian like you, aren't you? And you wanna recruit more giving hope, telling how you got free college in this drought economy, look he is even offering email service. Please care fully read what he wrote, how so smooth and sincere he is? do you really even get a clue that he is actually not asking question but reminding people how cool to be a christian? otherwise it would've been just two lines question, wake up!!  People are fool even to response this sorry telling coward , this is the part of strategy, this is how they have been trained. Oh by the way, when is your closet meeting to bible study? hopefully I can join. It's ok just tell them it is a big dance party, I will know exactly what are you talking about  *wink . Go ahead delete it, I know how to fight with people like you.

I grew up as a christian in Nepal and am a Christian but it never bothered anyone to the extent that they would hate me. I have friends of all faith and we all get along well. So do not see why you r worried if you believe in Christianity. Christianity is a religion where one gets ridiculed whether you are a Nepali or American, if you believe in Christ, people will make fun of you. But i guess it does not matter if you truly believe in something. It is amazing and you do not feel angry either with the comments people make. I love my religion and love my church and am involved in them, and i find peace in that. Rest i have never cared much and do not care.

I have a very bleak view towards all religions and especially towards those who do believe in supernatural being. As far as Catholicism is concerned these people believe in abstinence to protect people from AIDS rather than the use of condoms. See how it worked out.

Do you know that the religion is the man-made? It is just individuals’ projection and interpretation.

Why do you run after religion? This man-made interpretation is will never win peoples' mind. It is just for sake of defending your own interpretation of religion. Eventually it will always end up creating controversy.

Hence refrain from religion. It is just a man-mad story.

Confused_200

If that makes you happi SO BE IT.  You don't need to come here and let us know. Just keep it to yourself. TYO BAAATO MA DWANG PHUKAUDAI HIDNU PARDAINA MA CHRISTIAN HO BHANERA GADHA. Bottom line if you are a good human being that is all that matters not whether you are hindu, buddhist, muslim, or christian.

The best religion in this world is "HUMANITY". please help Haitian earth quake victims by donating some rather than sitting your bum and writing craps.

Looks like most of the arguments is about their post being deleted rather than His/her conversion to Christianity.

To be honest, no one is born with any kind of religion, it is just being imposed by the society you were born into. you are molded into the religion you were born into, you never had an option.
All the religion itself is bias, those were imposed upon human being  to use their persuasion successfully.
Having said so, i am not trying to offend any  persons with their religious beliefs and i am in no position to defend  any atheist belief.
And certainly i am not in position to judge someone's  conversion of any religion to any other religion.
As someone mentioned above, humanity should be the first religion all human should be imposed upon.

What would be the common religion among all the living beings  in the whole universe which would allow us to live in peace and harmony?

I have a question above your question :

1) What would you do if you find other mother's more impressive than your mother, would you change your mother and start calling other's mother as your mother?

If you don't get any sense of your religion then try to make it more sensible my friend don't just try to run away from it. Its not like christanity was giving more sense from its origin, its the people(religious leaders) who worked hard to make it more realistic by rephrasing it through the course of time where/how applicable through generation. When you pass through several generation most of the things get obsolute and needs to be replaced which has been constantly done in bible as per the need of that generation.

There are lots of things in the universe which you need to believe whether your small sense would recognize it or not, But still its present. One thing is for sure if you change your religion your parents and friends will do nothing they will feel bad for couple of years and then will accept you coz. they are Hindu and are raised on forgiving environment(Culture) then betraying and punishing. Also afterall you are harbored on them.

Which religion do you think is more liberal? It obviously is Hinduism. Thats why you are allowed to go anywhere and follow anything you believe is good for you. I do respect all religion and its your choice to follow anyone you like afterall you have lots of options. But my request is please do not criticise any other relegion when you shift to other.

Ganjadi,

You said "What would you do if you find other mother's more impressive than your mother, would you change your mother and start calling other's mother as your mother?"

You can not equate mother with religion. Please change religion all the time. People do not change mothers. You are born out of your mother. You are born out of your hindu parents but you are not born a Hindu or a Christian.

You analogy is wrong.
