I am on H1(consultancy)  since October, 2008 but no project. Thought about Canada PR but don't have that much time.

So decided to go to Canada to Study, so need some suggestions, please.........

Is it a good idea to go to study in Canada?

What are the provisions for students there?

Which is the best place to go or University (have MBA from US)?

How difficult is it to get admitted to the Universities in canada?

Please, anybody who has any idea, i really appreciate your suggestions.

Hi nep-gal

I'm on the same boat, haven't thought to go to Canada to study. I would suggest to go back to F1 rather than going to Canda which i probably do. I, myself thinking to go back to some cheap college kine ki u can join Udergrad also. It is better to go Canada with PR. How is my (pidit, dukhi manche ko) suggestion?

Nep-gal,

I aggreed with Nissan2006 and if u wants to go to the school, go to the US and same time you can apply for Canadian PR. If you wants to maintain status, u can go community college and work some where out of school and apply for Canadian PR.

Well wisher,

Sagun

Dont go Canada for study neither join any college here and change your status to H1. Its not clear you got your H1 from Undergraduate or Graduate. If you have done undergraduate it make sense to join graduate but if you have done graduate and you are going back to undergraduate or graduate again thats waste of time and money.

You wrote you are in H1 from october 2008 right so as I and it dint been long. Its not your problem or my problem, this is the problem of million people now so I think as soon as you are in H1 it wont be problem. If you employer is threating you that they are going to cancel your H1 its different thing but if you are worried that you are not paying taxes or you are not genearting any pay stubs then that should not be the problem as far as I think that doesnt mean its hunderd percent right.

I can give you some suggestions like, why dont you work outside for time beings and pay your H1 taxes unitl you get a job. It wont be like this forever so you have to wait for right time. I see many people who are fraustrated and going back to school again because they dint get H1 so dont do that mistake going back to f1 from H1 that you have as far as its really necessary and you will be out of status in H1. Once your H1 is canceled or transfered may be its hard for to get it again and I hope you dont want to be in F1 for always

Going to F1 from H1 esp. when you dont have job ..is not easy. it takes atleast 4-6 mths to get decision on change of status. they will check if you have maintained your status properly or not and if they reject your f1 status request you'll get a notice to leave the county within 30 days. Having Canada as Plan B is always good. Even in canada its really tough to find a job but you can apply for canadian PR. If you finish your studies in canada its easy to get job. By now you already know how diffcult life is in usa with h1 but without job. Even when u get project there are lots of uncertainities regarding h1 status, h1 renewal, gc filing (unless u find permanent job/direct hire)

I have so many friedns who were actually working before but now got laid off or out of the project they are unsure about the h1 renewal because no paystubb. even one friend who filed for GC got rejected (after waiting 2 yrs)showing that his income wasnt enough ( he was on bench for 3 months and rest of the time he worked as business analyst). so my point is apply for canadian PR as plan B without any delay regarding schhol in canada  take your time and think yourself do more research.

 Guys

I am also on the same boat as Nep-gal and Nissan.  As far as I know this economy is going to take a while

to get back on its feet , at least not before the coming fall for sure. How to stay on status and live till then?

Options

F-1 makes sense to only  those who have done bachelor's, for post grads it would, as suggested above , be waste of time and money.

Canada PR- It takes at least 13 to 15 months(US Buffalo center) if you haven't filed yet. It is a good idea still to file from US and go back to nepal and follow from there. You would save at least 2-3 yrs if you do so instead of filing from Nepal in NewDelhi center. To learn abt it in detail visit 'trackitt' .

Going back to Nepal for good  ---- After all  lots of nepalese have proved you can do better in nepal too.

Inspite of  political transition phase , with your degree , exposure/experience and of course willpower you can make a difference . If you need some inspirations just follow the life of Mahabir pun  and the microsoft guy.

I am seriously thinking abt 3rd option right now . What do you guys say????

Guys my lawyer told me that even if we change status from H1B to F1, we can go back to H1B at any time once we find job. That means we dont have to wait untill april. How reliable is that? Guys any idea or experience on this?

Thank you very much for nep-gal, for raising this issue.and also for all the pals who provided comments and suggestions.  I am also exactly in same shoe, and mine is MBA too. But the good thing of my employer is that they are not telling me to leave the consultancy. They are telling me to stay with them as long as market gets better. I ask them to run the paystub and they told me that tax will be somewhere arround 1100 to run the paystub. I don't think I can stay in status by paying 1100 every month. But my employer tell not to worry about the tax. He is telling me that I can stay without running paystub till anybody raised any questions to their company.

I am applying for Canada in this week, what I am worring is how can I stay in status for 14-15 months while waiting for result, if I don't get job till then. Can I work in cash somewhere and stay in H1 and also wait for canada's pr result?

Thank you all for your valuable comments. It was really helpful. However, I was wondering if anybody has gone to Canada to study and what are the previledges for students over there. Are the students over there allowed off-campus work? I am not afraid of hardwork, just its unbearable that you can't work.

It looks like, to go back to F1 after completing MBA would be a risky choice. Can't go back to Nepal, have some responsibilities that I have to take care.

It has become torchure just to be in the status, now when its time to work that has turn into nightmare.

Would like to hear more from all, and (possibly) from individuals with some experience living or studying in Canada.

Gurkha's first of all getting canadian PR is a backup. It will work as plan B and save you from frustration. lets say you got canadian PR and didnt get job there in that case you can go back to nepal and come back again when the economy is good. you'll have option to do back and forth without worrying about status. Other than that once you get the canadian citizenship you  dont need amrican visa to enter U.SA. Its just like Nepal and India no visa required (I am still not sure about this).

once you have the PR than you are legal permanent canadian resident you can do business there and offcourse brave Gurkhas with U.S university knowledge and experience can do a lotta things there. despite all these things you can still continue your h1, GC or whatever struggle you are doing here in usa. the choice to go canada or not will be totally on you once you get canadian PR
