Dear frens, I completed my graduate study on Feb 2, 2008. I had applied for OPT earlier but due to some missing documents, i needed to resend some documents and my OPT seems to arrive only after April 15. Since we can stay for only 60 days after completion (without OPT) and my OPT will arrive after 60 days, will I be out of status during that time? Our international student centre is so bad that they do not provide information clearly. So if you guys could provide me some information, I would be grateful.

that happened to me when i completed my undergrad in o4. I had forgotten to sign the application and they delayed the process. My international advisor got the mail from them which she forwarded me to my new address. I corrected and resent. Back then, they used to give temporary work permit when the process was pending for more than 9 days. I had a letter from them with a LIN number and when i entered it on their website it showed as process pending. I was able to get that temp work permit ( for 90 days) by going to the local INS office. btw, that 90 days temp permit deducts days from your 1 year opt.

How do you know it's gonna come after April 15th? I guess nobody knows when you actually gonna get your OPT... (btw, those 3-4 months, whatever time they say in USCIS is bogus). Actually, when did it reach the USCIS? Did you get any receipt yet? If it comes after April 2, I am pretty sure you will fk up your "grace period", as far as I know.

Dangol,
The best bet for you would be to call the 1-800 USCIS Customer Service number and ask them. They are pretty helpful and would provide you proper help or guidance. Hope this helps.
All the Best!
