Last year one of my friend told me that he will file my tax online so i gave all my papers to him but what happend was he tried to do it on the last day and he said due to some computer pblm he could not file it online. so what i did was i mailed (postal mail) it next day which was already after a cut off date. i did not get any response from IRS. I dont even know if my tax got filed, my concern is will it affect me if it was not filed. I wanted to know that before i file my tax this yr.

Tax filing has 3 years of time to file. Did you owe any money to Federal and State last year?? The cut off time does not matter, once you sent it proper place and with proper stamps, should had been reached and you would have heard from them either getting refund or pay back if owed. Check with IRS, if not filed, files again. You must have the copies of the 1040 print. Attach – w-2s and resent it. This time you need to make sure the address is correct and the postage stamp has right amount, I should not be reminding of writing your name and address. If you are single and last year you had used 1040 EZ, your tax filling is very simple. You can go on line Turbo tax where you can practice without signing a name. But you can find other tax software, free or cheaper than turbo Tax. For state and federal I generally advise Tax Act, simple as turbo but cheaper than turbo tax.

NayaSadak is absolutely right.
Do you guys remember that the tax filing deadline was extended by two days last year? April 17th was the last day to file.

Lure: This is not a hot topics, very few people like to be involved in financial decisions. Even If I announce I will give you free tax print of Federal and MASS, I think there will be remote chance of people coming forward to receive the free services, Neither of us is going to do it. Forget about 2nd person, one fellow Parbate complained me that his own brother and sister in law turn him down. Lets get to the points: First of all W-2 form has 3-4 copies, one for federal one for state and one for local and one for you to keep for your future records. You will always have chance to print or make a copy of your 1040 with paid programs. This year you will keep your prints and copy of w-2s. Did you call 1-800 IRS to check your 2006 status. You should check this first. Sometimes they can give you info about your pay and various withholdings. Should not hurt to check first. It is not that busy yet. Are you working with the same company or change? You can request your employer to provide you a new copy of your w-2 forms. You can restart after obtaining your w-2 of 2006. But it does not bar you filing 2007 tax. If you owe to federal or State, they will withheld past due from present tax if your tax withholdings and credit are over than your tax liablility. Best way to file previous years is local library. You can print out or get from the file all required forms. Or I may able to run numbers and give you the figures only. I do not want to know whom I am helping . But it is always good to be independent specially in financial matters. That is the reason you would not see more response in finance. Hope this will be helpful.

If you want the copy of your tax returns of previous years (upto 3 yrs), you can get it by calling IRS or filling out and mailing the form 4506 to IRS. This way you will not only know whether you have filed tax return you will know what was it like. You can get the form on irs.gov.
Good luck.
