recently i transferred from NLC to a 4 year college and we had some nepalese already in the university. from their point of view, NLC is the worst and the dumbest choice to be made for an educational purpose. another reasoning they seem to make is that whoever goes to NLC, they only care about money, fun, luxury, but are careless about the studies. i don't know why do they make such a nonsense comments on those, who had some purpose or compulsion too, for joining such 2 year community colleges. some reasons ppl hate NLC includes:
- not reputed
- even ppl in nepal knows abt it although they are unware abt the top universities
- too many nepalese
- gas station, the final destination.......hehe...
i spent my 2 hectic yrs in NLC too. obviously i transferred in search of cheaper education and an opportunity to earn some money as well to help my parents back home to pay the debt. but that doesn't mean that students like me get completely lost or forget about their primary goal or responsibilities while living a fast in such places. i agree that some of us do lose our way but i've had some companies with such guys as well and i don't see them losing their morality though. most of such get frustrated upon our arrival at the states and start to think that the only thing that matters is money. so coz of such mentality too, people try to abandon their educational career and choose to pursue the money-making path. no matter what the final goal is money anyway, so why only education as they way to reach it. america has provided lots of opportunities and they wanna utilize it on their comfort. so why should anyone get bothered by that?
although the time in NLC were not so sweet, i'll treasure my days over there. i know, how hard the students work with their life in threat just to help their parents and collect some good funds for their higher education. so what's wrong being independent? what's wrong to enjoy with the money they make? whether they party or get a new ride for themselves.
i'm not encouraging everyone 2 go to NLC. just trying to share the views of some of my companions. analyzing things is different but blaming on the choice of the ppl is completely unfare. so although i graduate from the university, will i b regarded underqulified just because i earned a part of it from a community college?

I understand your pain bro, plus I don't think people should think they're better coz they did not go to NLC. Everybody makes choices based on the constraints they face in life. And yes, money is the final desired outcome and there is more than just one way (study/H1) to get it. Btw..bro how many Nepalis are there in the houston area..just curious.

davechappelle bro i'm not in pain, just trying show the disatisfaction over the perspectives of other ppl, but whatever u mean is 100% true. ...btw..... as far as i know, there aren't many nepalese in houston as in dallas, but many goes to community college over there too and some r in university of houston as well.

Who says that NLC is bad. the only bad thing about NLC is its International Student Service, besides that i havent had any problems yet with the scool.. But coming back to the ISS, the worst service one can get from any office.
When calling NLC office, DO NOT ever talk with the Front Desk Clerks, ask them to transfer you to an advisor......n be sure to get his/her name and when dealing later with any case, correspond with that particular advisor only.....
Thats all i can say about NLC.

hey KaLyx
i go to northlake college ....its truepeople make choices and these choices shape theirs lives
i don't know if Nlc is bad or its just a popular myth of University Goers and graduates.....for me NLC is good if not the best......there are people who simply don't care about driving Toyota 2006 or even better when they can survive with a cheaper make.....actually i don't have a car and manage to go work(motel) buy bus and work 40 hrs a week.....i have been here for a year and a half.......BTW being in Dallas doesn't mean that you are running after money ...... And if i had enough money i would definitly buy books than buy a new coat....i have seen NLC and the Nepalese guys....Only thing embarrassing for me being in NLC is the way people(Nepalese) behave....other than that i like being here and i am pretty much sure that i will get admitted to a good University if Not the Top...
I know many who give priority to studies and work only 30-40 hrs a week just enough to sustain them(Lets forget there are people who steal in Gas station and work 3-4 days there is a different picture on that note)......and there are people who register 12 credits only to remain in status and don't even bother to be present in the classes and usually they ask their friends (i have marked my friends) to mark them present......these people work like shit! 70-80 hrs a week....they are the ones after money and i don't know why are they doing this(debt, luxuary or whatever).....
No Hard feelings but KaLyx i am sure there is a good reason people are here at NLC
If not what do you reckon to students who would like to be among the best after they graduate

I do not see any harm going to NLC. if someone is not able to achieve his/her goal or diverts path while @ NLC, then that person, and not NLC, should be responsible. Infact, NLC is a great college for students-it is way less expensive than other colleges/universties; it's courses gets easily transfered to many renowed universities in Texas and elsewhere (if proper degree plan is followed); many students are awarded moderate to hugh scholarships with GPAs earned @ NLC; living expenses in DFW, where NLC is located, is cheap; and students can get jobs to support themselves while going to college.
NLC is accredited by National Accredition Agency and is one of the most-standard colleges within the Dallas County Community College District. It is more standard than universities of some states. There are many, many students who studied @ the NLC transfered to UTA and other universities and with scholarships, graduated, and are holding jobs currently. So, NLC is a great instution in many aspects and there's not any harm going there if there are many Nepalese students studing there or it's name is well heard in Nepal. The main thing it provides a quality education with less tuition fees and that's what counts!
Good Luck to all who plan to get transfered here.

I do not go to NLC but yeah it is certainly ONLY A MYTH that all the people who go to NLC are those who care more about money and less about study. Yes, there may be some who go the wrong way but the majority are there just to get education which they can afford and not neccessarily bad. Most of the people who study at NLC easily get transferred to UTA (which BTW is a very good University for Engineering), with scholarships if they have maintained a healthy GPA.
As atomic says, getting credits from NLC is no different from those credits from Community Colleges in other Metropolitan Cities.

I don't know why People doesn't think from two sides. Yo kura satya ho ki padhne manche le jaha gaye pani padcha ani napadhne harulai jasto university bhayeni kehi hunna, yeha paisa khuwayera nepal ko jasto marks ta pakkai lyauna mildaina. Who bullshit say that Nepalese studying at Northlake just seek for money working outside and they don't care much about their studies. So what is wrong if they study at Northlake and transfer to UTA or any university. They are gaining education and if they are studying well, there is nothing wrong I guess. I have seen people spending their five years in community college and not being able to be graduated even after their visa expires. If we have the simple look in this matter, so what is the difference of getting minor subject credits earned from community college or university. As we know there is no relationship at all to study lab for business class or US govt. or history for students. So, Can't we earn that credits in cheap cost as there is no difference at all either from university or community college. But, being a nothlake college student also. i myself doesn't agree nepalese at northlake just have objective to earn money or something else.

hey mundre
i totally agree with u. great point right there. i've been thru that too and had frens of all kinds while my stay in dallas. it's just ppls' thought that needs to b shaped regarding the importance of study vs. making money.
keep up ur persistence in the same pace.
Sahayog u r right too. i had all of my credits transfered too. there no need to judge between the credits u earned in the university and a community college.
