Dada Giri ji What a coincidence I should say! Something was striking in my mind for the last few days and I wrote it yesterday. Early in the morning today, I read all this strange thing happening in Nepal with Anukampa of King G. Don't know what will happen next. Posh

Dada Giri ji Though I am a qualified expert to judge on the technicalities of a gazal, I am sharing with you what I know. Simply put, Matla = the first 'Sher' in a gazal and Makta = the last 'Sher' used in a gazal. For example, in the above gazal, "Hall Gariyo......Feridaichha" is Matla and "Abasarbadko khel....Feridaichha" is Makta, which includes 'Posh' as Takhallush. Each line (Pankti) is Misra and Sher is each unit of a gazal consisting of two lines. In each Sher, the words such as Bat, Hat, Rat are called Kafiya. Radif is the word 'Feridaichha' used in each Sher. I remember there was a thread by Nepe in Sajha on the technical issues of Gazal with examples. Maybe it is worth searching the link if you want to know further. Hope it helps. About your next question on the difference between a kavita and muktak, I will write later as I am in a hurry now. Posh

DG Coming back to your query on the difference between Muktak and Poem, for Muktak you have usually four lines. The first two lines usually should have similar rhymes (anupras/laya) and third one would be a free line, where you have the flexibility of writing as you don't need to worry about maintaining a rhyme or laya. The last one usually would follow the rhyme/aupras/laya with the first two lines. For Gadhya poem, you have always the flexibility, you don't have to follow any strict rules. If the poem is quite short or doesnot follow this Muktak rules, I have seen people publishing them as Tukka or Tukra kavita. If you follow the link for an example of Muktak, http://www.paradesh.com/readArt.php?artId=612 You see that the first two lines 1. Naitikata ....Chhan? and 2. Dhilo Chhito...Bikchhan have similar rhymes. The third one, Kaliyug na ho......badhabadma is free line and the last (fourth) line, Kahilekahi...Bikchha has similar rhymes as used in the first two lines of that Muktak. That is what I know. Everybody is welcome to contribute further. Posh
