How many of you still have grandparents? What do you like to talk to them about? Don't take it for granted, they won't live forever, spend some time with them also. Hear their stories, their stories are priceless.

Just the topic I was looking for. I have paternal granpa, he brought me up, gives me advice on my studies and comes to my college to see that I am actually studying. But the best part of it all is, he makes yummy achar. He's my role model. I could go on and on about him, so I betta stop. This Dashain was great, all the credit goes to him!!!!!

no one should be scared. everyone comes and goes. the point is that whether its grandkids or grandparents, spending some quality times together is very important. i dedicated this thread to sharing stories of grandparents and grandkids. It goes either way.

Yah I agree! I tried to talk to my granny on phone other day, he could barely hear anything. Both of them are in their nineties. I wish I'll see them again if i am able to dig myself out from this quicksand :). Grandparents are such blessings. They used to scold/advise me in strange ways, now I think about it, there isn't a person in my vicinity to question my doings. anyways, I wrote this long ago about my grandfather, jus in case anyone is interested. http://www.sajha.com/archives/openthread.cfm?threadid=6978&dsn=sajhaarchive#1881 adios! goodnite!

My grandfather (dad's side) passed away a year after I left Nepal. He had come to see me off at the airport. He kind of knew that that it might be the last time he'd ever see me. He was crying his eyes out . Someone had to drive him back to the house. I was very sad already. Like someone else said, he used to get up really early in the morning and wake everyone up. I still remember very strongly the smell of Hookah coming out of his room. These days in the cities they have Hookah bar where hipster goes and chill out. My grandfather was already a hipster back then.

Them: thikkai chha nani , timilai kasto chha? Me: thik thak. Afno health ko take care garnus hai, khana time ma khanus, ani chiso ma dherai bahira najanu tapai lai dum ko birami chha... Them: hamro chinta nagara sabai thik thak chha, padai kasto chaldai chha? Me: thikkai, eh mero exam aaunu lageko chha mero lagi prathana gardinu nabirsinu hai... them: la la bhai halchha ni, hami sandhai garidira huncham. La ta maami lai dium? Me: Hunchha I miss them so much :(

Vola , how can i forget my grandpa and granny? I feel blessed to have such loving grandparents. My grandfather was in the army and he is always about his military life. He is very disciplined and organised like any other armymen. I adore his love for Nepal. He cried when i left nepal saying " afno desh chodi jana lagis ". granny on the other side is an absolute angel. She is very concerned about her social status and wants me to marry man of her choice . ( i don't think that is going to happen, sorry hai ) But she is worthy of praise. She is calm and i am fascinated by gossips and stories . Loves me dearly , advises me ( i always take her advise). Hope they live forever. God bless them.

grandparents are the rock of a family. the experience and the wisdom. the heart and soul. the laughter and the tears. only my maternal grandmother is still alive and she brings me more joy than most other people i know. she's adorable! i never knew my dad's dad, but my dad's mom and my paternal grandfather were big parts of my life growing up. and continue to be a part of me today. they passed away 2 days apart from each other. i got back from my grandmother's funeral to a message that my grandfather had died. it was devastating. but they taught me so much. and i think the most important lessons are the value of family, the meaning of love and human connection, a sense of humor is the best medicine, and age is only a number. i remember telling my students that i had gotten a letter from my grandmother. they couldn't believe it-they couldn't understand. "sir, tapaiko baajiko chitti, ko le lekhi dinubhayo?" "ke? aphale lekheko!" "abuiii! hajurko grandmother (they used to throw in english words whenever they could) le lekhna janubhae chha?" and it occured to me that all of their grandmothers, and most of their mothers, were illiterate. and i couldn't believe or understand that. it represented a HUGE difference between america and nepal. but it is refreshing to see all of these nanis and bahinis in school today. surely if a country wants to move ahead, education and equality of all people is the best way to start. sorry i strayed from the topic, but that's my 2 paisa. la.

I miss them...... Well I tok to them a lot but I dunno if you guys feel it too but I have a great fear nowadays...I dream about them a lot and in my dream they are telling me not to go to the states (Though i am here but I dream that i am in nepal and am ready to come here)... and thay are crying.. They think tht if I go to states they will never get to see me again and I will never see them either..And I start crying too.. I duno if its real or in my dreams!! Its like they are trying to tell me that something real bad is going to happen tp them.. And i get really really scared.. One of my grandparents literally raised me when my parents were away and whenever I think of anything happening to them I feel like hell... What if something happens to them when i am here???? Do any of you feel the same???
