India should know that we Nepales are not like what we were in the yesteryears and we will not let anything India wants to happen to our Nepal. India put Pakistan's name in UN and tried its best to declare Pakistan as terroist country. What about us going to DC and handling the petition telling India not to cause terrorism in our country, telling them to stop providing security, shelter and financial and ammuntion help to maoists? do write to us about your views. What can we do here to contribute to our national stability besides that?

The Indian recommendation would be somebody like Koirala to head the government.

The Indian team is scheduled to meet Gyanendra on Thursday morning, ahead of a huge rally planned by the political parties where, some sources said, they even planned to storm the palace.

Karan Singh will also have a one-on-one with Gyanendra to make him see reason.

Whether the Indian prescription will be acceptable to the Nepalis is debatable, but it is clear that Gyanendra is very worried and sources said he might be open to some persuasion.

What is clear is that it will meet with resistance from the opposition. Shekhar Koirala, leader in the Nepali Congress party was categorical.

"We will not accept any interim government, except the restoration of the 2002 Parliament, and elections to a constituent assembly," he told TOI . HERE ONE THING IS CLEAR - THEY WANT POWER WITHOUT ELECTIONS.

He was also clear that Gyanendra could have no place in the new set-up. India is keenly watching the unfolding events in Nepal, particularly the outcome of the talks between the monarch and the Indian envoys.

The imponderables are the following: whether Gyanendra believes the end is nigh for the monarchy to accept the Indian solution and cede power; whether the parties feel emboldened enough by the pace of the rebellion to reject the Indian solution by going the whole hog and removing the monarchy while they are at it; or whether the force of events in Nepal will make these solutions ineffective. What is certainly evident is that restoration of status quo ante cannot be offered to the agitating Nepalese as a solution — that would be completely unacceptable to the popular mood.

India’s decision to step in more pro-actively into Nepalese politics comes in the backdrop of the forced migration of thousands of Nepalese streaming across the border into UP, Uttaranchal and Bihar.
