A Nepali student, Dr. Pukar Malla, has been elected as the President of the Harvard Graduate Council for the academic year 2010/11. Malla is a Masters in Public Administration candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. This is the first time that a Nepali national has been elected to such an esteemed position at Harvard. The graduate council is a representative student government of the twelve graduate and professional schools at Harvard and serves the interests of the 13,600 graduate students at Harvard. The council advocates student issues to the central administration, fosters cross-university collaboration and nurtures social ambience among the graduate students, according to fellow Harvard student Bisundev Mahato. Malla's team recently organised the inaugural Harvard Leadership Conference, where 300 students and 41 speakers participated. Former Prime Minister of Haiti, Michele Pierre-Louis, Rear Admiral Susan Blumenthal and US Congressman Ed Markey were the keynote speakers. This year, the council also aims to officialise university-wide student groups. Malla finished his high schooling in Nepal from St. Xavier's and Budhanilkantha schools. In the US, he has been educated at acclaimed institutions including Swarthmore, Cornell and Harvard. He has been an active member of the Nepali community in the US. He is the Co-Founder and Secretary General of the global Nepali youth movement, Nepal Ko Yuwa. He is an International Coordination Council member of the NRN Association and a Co-Founder of the Computer-Association of Nepal - USA.

Well, getting into Ivy League is a big thing for those who does not have any political connection. Plus once you are in one Ivy League the doors open automatically for him/her. Guess what, not all those who has capacity, incredible abilites can make into ivy league. I know very few about mr pukar, but i think his family are from palpa and his dad was high ranked govt official, he went to St. Xavier..so link starts from right there. The question is do we really need to proud of him? I do not think so. Yes we should really be happy for him as one nepali heads into graduate student council, this will create very posetive atmosphere over there. But most of Ivy league graduates are constantly seeking for improving their resume than making most of it for themselves only. So unless anyone make any tangible contribution to our society, i think we should not make him/ or her hero, that would be insult to those who are real hero, doing great job back home.
Btw, ex election comissioner mr. bhoj raj pokhrel is also in HARVARD, Kennedy School doing MPA I guess. Would he have good grades back home? Would he have taken GMAT/TOEFL/GRE I doubt, let alone the good score? It is all political connection. And if he were admitted on his experience basis, then would not you admitt a young NEPALI from rural viallage who would have entire life to contribute back than old guy mr pokhrel who is in retireing age?
In Pukar's case, he is very much into party life and media, but there are many nepalies already been into harvard, princeton, cornell, columbia, and so on..here are few renowns ivy graduates nepali - Dr. Ambika Prashad Adhikari, Dr. Kul Chandra Gautam, Dr. Jagdish Chandara Pokhrel..

Eagle bro,
The names you mentioned Dr. Ambika Prashad Adhikari, Dr. Kul Chandra Gautam, Dr. Jagdish Chandara Pokhrel represent the worst of Nepali society. Why don't you include freakin' Dixit brothers as well? Nepali people seem to care only about freak a$$ politicians but ignore others. All these guys are failed corrupt persons. What have they achieved in life other than supporting Maoists or Congress and kissing their feet?

Ritisharma (fictious name??)
If you can become PM/President just by getting degrees, earth would be very small place to accomodate so many creatures. How could you even create those many nations?

It is not about getting degrees!! It is about getting quality degree and best education and dedication for country!!
I bet there is no single Nepali who is more qualified than him to this date!!! (from BS to MS to PHD to MPA all from world best university)
Being the most qualified Nepali, he deserves the post of PM and President.
Where hake in the word is it written that most qualified person shouldn't be made the premier of the country, rather thugs, thieves, corrupted and uneducated politicians, murderer and criminals should be made one?
If person like Girija, Madhav K Nepal, criminals maoists can be the PM then why not him?
P.S.
I have never met this guy, and I am a normal Nepali who wants progress of Nepal

Ritasharma,
While I like Pukar, I find your assertion that he is the 'most qualified Nepali' a childish. There are many well-educated Nepali and Pukar is one of them.
To be a PM, you need other qualities than being a graduate from world's best universities. How about getting elected from your constituency, for a starter? In democracy, it is not where you graduated from that counts, it is how many people vote for you that counts.
So, if you like Pukar, please vote for him when he runs for election (in Nepal).

In order to run for a political office, one has to go back to the country and be with the people. Will Mr. Pukar will go back, 100% NO, as long as WB is paying him FAT check. For those who see he is the only candidate, how about organizing one on one program on development and Nepal and see how many of young nepali will be there to kick @@@ of....further, big university degree does not mean that you are only qualified perso. FYI, Dr. Minendra Rijal is NYU graduate and you think NYU education is less than IVY league then you do not know anything about US education. There are many ivy league graduates who does not like cheap shot and are not in showbiz, but actually studied development, planning, law who will be more qualified to come into politics if at all you kind of people set ivy league degree as a precondition to become PM..lol. get a life dude!

Academic Degree Hudaina tyo manche le harek kura garna shakcha bhanna sakinnna.
I saw this dude modeling in cybersansar few yrs back.
And I have noticed that there is a team of people who are advertising him every now and then in Sajha.
Funny!!!
He has masters degree and poeple with Phd from any universities (Even from nepal) are more qualified than him.
This is probably Pukar himself who is writing all these coz WHo has time to compose and write a lengthy history of a dude who has studied in harved and post in sajha.,
Dude do not try to show how perfect you life is. Feel it yourself and move on for the best.

He already has a P. Hd. from Cornell University, hence, he's Dr. Pukar Malla.
I can't understand why people are so keen to talk him down. He's arguably the most renowned Nepali (full-fledged) across the US.
