It's too much now and so I decided to start this thread on cartoons of Rajesh K.C. published in both Kantipur daily and Kathmandu Post.

That's the stupidity not to be correctly translated the nepali version into english sensibly.

Efforts underway. GOod trying. However, dot dot dots (....) as used in Nepali cartoon were not used in the english cartoons. Those dot dot dots really worked well in the nepali... but they failed to utilize dot dot dots in the english.

The order of chasing was reveresed, and that has done worse to the english cartoon.

First of all,
The Nepali itself is wrong.

Who told it?

"Sap!" Army?
"Surakchha Kharcha magna" Army Commander?
"Telko paisa uthaauna prama jyu" Army Commandar or Army or Janata????
"Bhada uthaauna sahuji" PM?

"Agadi BHAGNE passenger" ?????? It must be "Oe Bhada paaun! Bhada paaun!!"

1. Yo last line ma matra kin BHAGNE bhanya ni BHAGANA bhnna khojya ho ki...
2. Sahuji le Busko bhada uthaaunchha? Khalaasi kata maryo?

Jannu sannu chhaina.
First correct Nepali Language folks!

My answer to foe_4_mysty is same as that for GUNDRUK.

We should not try to translate typical words of one language to anothe, if we cannot find closest equivalent. Therefore, "tie" around the neck is called nothing but "tie" in our prachalit nepali language. The closest word for "Shirt" in Nepali is "Kamij". Then "keyboard" remains "keyboard" because we still call "dotpen". English language uses "rendevous" from french as it is. Therefore, "jutho" remains "jutho". But remember not only arka le khayeko "jutho", Aphnei manchhe le khayeko "jutho" pani hunchha. But they are separate "jutho"s. Tara muslim haruko "jutho" hundaina, all of them eat fro the same big thaal.

Good answer prem dai. There are certain words in Nepali and Hindi as well those are used in english these days like 'bandh' and 'lathi charge' etc. Similarly there are thet english which dont have nepali translation.
Well, Kantipur guys will never change prem dai. They should do one thing EITHER PUBLISH CARTOON IN NEPALI OR IN ENGLISH, NOT BOTH.
what do you say?

jhyam putali

Thats what we have been saying. All cartoons are not suitable for English translation. They should use new ones appropriately.

suppose:

There is a sentence based on popular saying
" barha barsa dhungro ma hale pani kukur_ko putchar bango ko bangai" How will they translate directly into English?

Their translation will be like this:
"Even you put dogs tail in a bamboo tube for twelve years, it will be still curved."

Right?

This time there are two different cartoons (nepali and english), however, the english one is same as the previous day's. I wonder there must have been the translated version (from nepali to english) of published in kathmandu post. But, kantipur publication is not putting that one here in Kantipuronline, perhaps thinking that they can shut off the criticisms.

Much improvement on the scene now. Bit how nice it would be if the word "Raute" was somehow incorporated in the english cartoon. No the top of that, the crucial point "their jungles are no more safe these days" should have been mentioned too.

Good translation. But how nice it would be if it was written "Then Carry On" at the end.
