It's ironic that the republican party is pro life and not pro choice when it comes to abortion. They want to save life that has not even become fully human - yet in thier quest for war they kill thousands of innocent human beings who are sons, daughters, fathers and mothers.

Is it only a ploy to attract the religiously inclined population into thier bandwagon?

I have not gone through whole thread but looking at it, nothing against abortion or borning the kid but before thinking that, all the kids, abled or disabled , should be taken care of.I liked pro-life concern brought forward here.

Here is the truth:

By aborting, you are taking someone's right (to live) away.Your are forcing your decision onto him/her.What if the baby wants to live no matter what?

By giving birth to a child, you as parents, are still forcing your decisions onto him/her.You two just decide that you want to have some "chum chum moments" and bring someone(the baby) to this world without his/her permission. And sometimes, even without your own intention. What if the baby never wanted to be born?

Either way, you are enforcing your own decision.

DP.

I have not read all the posts. But DP's got a point. Giving the choice to mom and/or dad means that you are taking the choice away from the baby. But then again, how would you really know that the child wants to be born. Abortion is acceptable if it is saving the mom's life. But just coz the mom and/or dad is unable to give the child a good care/family/environment does not give them the right to abort.

If, as according to some posters, if you can't afford to give a quality life to the child, then don't bring the child to the world. IF the same theory applies to born babies, would you just kill them because you cannot afford a good family for him/her? If you go back to the root of the problem, then - use contraceptives. If for any reason you made a mistake, then don't kill the baby-- it's not the baby's mistake.!!

Hey... I have an objection here.... u guys are tokin abt the baby and the rights taken away from the baby.. ok then what abt this.. what if the parents do not want the baby.. and have it anyways.. so the parents take the baby as a burden.. dun treat him/her nicely... the baby will be emotionally traumatized.... and also will most probably not get his needs fulfilled...

in aborting for an unwanted pregnancy is good for both the child and the parents.... and while aborting.. the foetus isnt even a baby yet...

Clickerclick, Was me bringing an abortion relation between BUSH and Nepal unfair or without reason? Just to brag and think big? Think again! I had a good reason buddy. Planned Parenthood of USA is helping Nepal out in this kind of sexual and family planning issue....and BUSH's target is to eliminate the same organization...which means it will affect Nepal and nepali women too! See the point! Unfortunately, U.S. international family planning policy stalled the group with the global gag rule (it affects globally) most of the groups involved receive assistance from the United States and could not participate in any effort to liberalize abortion laws ý even at the invitation of their own government.

Yes, u are right....a man can't be a woman and woman can't be a man. But what man can do is understand what women go through.....is that too much to ask? If a man can't be pregnant then men can never understand how much pain and responsibility it is as u don't seem to understand! Don't pretend like u understand then! Clicker, most of the abortions happens with unmarried couple. What happens to the unmarried men who make the women pregnant? Have u heard anywhere whether or not we should punish them along with women? Don't tell me they have nothing to do with it and that they are good men! Even there are some cases of husbands pushing wives to abort. I agree not every husband is bad (the ones that don't force their wives to abort) but the ones who force them is obviously notoriously insane and pathetic..... The "womb" is seen both as a blessing and a curse for women! Throughout the world 75,000 women die from excessive bleeding or infection caused by botched abortions every year, according to the World Health Organisation! Isn't 75,000 a year enough for u?

Even if any unmarried girl becomes pregnant through relationship with some man, society does not take it as an ordinary phenomenon, but begins to hate her and our social environment obliges her to try every possible means to hide her pregnancy out of public shame. Out of desperation she tries to abort her foetus, failing which she even may resort to the crime of killing or deserting the newborn baby.

Are u kidding by saying" legalizing abortion willn't solve the problem"?? Not legalizing abortion will bring even more dead babies in BAGMATI and even more women killed. Do u even consider women as human being? U care more about half human fetus than a full grown human being!! NOBODY seems to care how many women dies.....interesting! If the women goes to a professional doctor....she can't have abortion 2-3 times..because it takes her life and the doctor will explain it to her. But if she doesn't have a choice to go to a doctor (illigal) then guess what she will never know that she can die after 2nd or 3rd abortion.......We can't stop women from getting pregnant and one way or another they'll find a way to abort. Therefore there's a better chance of survival for women if they have a choice! Oh yeah yeah clicker....there are sooooo many nepali women with 4-5 husbands compared to men??? Hahahahaha u are a very hilarious person......how come we never hear about it like we hear and see like men having 4-5 wives ha?

The one way to solve this problem would be to change the society drastically. Why are u hesitant to talk about sex education? If we have sex education in high school we would know what to do...use protections etc....u can't stop everybody not to have sex! Are u even raising a voice against this system? We don't even have proper family planning education among married couple...therefore end up having zillions of kids although they can't afford to raise the kids...... If there was a proper system to educate these people we would be better off! Educating men about these procedures help too....because if they don't even know about sexual diseases like AIDS, STDs...then how can they prevent it? They sleep with several women without protection and spread the disease to women and baby too....so this should be the priority!! Bitching women will take us nowhere....unless u want every woman not to have sex anymore....I wonder how miserable men would be without sex! Raise your voice against the government, its policies about sex education, family planning system, men who rape, men who force women to abort, men who make women pregnant and not take responsibility not against women!!! Com'on it's that simple and clear!

Well, presumably, if a woman gets to the point where she knows she's pregnant, and several months along, chances are it **is** a viable fetus, as it bypassed some of the safety checks put in place by nature.

The abortion debate is largely one of semantics. Some people feel that a fetus **is** a human being and as such has a right to live equal to the mother's right, others feel that is not yet a human, or that the rights of its host override it. This is very similar to the animal rights debate, where some people feel very strongly that animals have as much right to a happy and long life as humans and it alienates the rest of the population that feels that animals are inherently lower beings and subservient to humans and thus should be subject to the needs of humans. (Not saying I agree with that, just that it's a similar situation.) The point is, nobody is going to change someone else's mind on the matter, because they are coming to the debate with different definitions and world views. I can share my feelings on the subject.... but I don't think I will want to change anyone's mind.

Killing a person is murder (or manslaughter, depending on the method). Bundles of cells are not people, and have no rights. So then the question becomes: when does that bundle of cells become a person? Remove it from the womb too soon, and the fetus will die, despite the (expensive) attempts of medical science to keep it alive. It's not viable, even though it has recognizable features like fingers, toes, and a face. Does the presence of those features mean it's a person, or is it viablility of the fetus that draws the line?

How do you define what's viable and what's not? MOST babies carried to term do not require extraordinary efforts to keep alive -- just feed them, clean them, and keep them warm and their nervous systems do the rest. They are viable. Of course, some full term babies do require medical assistance or else they will die, so viability can't be the sole argument for people-ness or not. It's all a huge matter of opinion, with the battleground currently sitting somewhere between conception, and the undefinined moment when that bundle of cells becomes a "person.''

If I were a teenager and suddenly find myself saddled with a pregnancy, well i think i would go for abortion.....i dont think i would do any good to the unborn baby.
I myself am pro-choice.But now that I'm older, with a stable and a better lifestyle, I'm not so sure that abortion would still be my first choice, but I still want to HAVE the choice. Regardless of what some people think, I'm fairly positive that a nine-week ball of cells does not override MY right to live my life the way I want to.

Abortion is right or wrong?

Well that is a very good question. It is said earlier in this discussion that some people think it is just a fetus and some think its a human it self!! check out this link

http://www.100abortionpictures.com/Aborted_Baby_Pictures_Abortion_Photos/

and comment what you see are just couple of cells or developed babies. ( be careful though, if you don't have a strong heart dont' go for it cause these are not the pictures that you see in everyday's life).

What I personally think is, abortion should be legal. As we all understand that there can be lot of situations that ppl face in their life and they can't take any chances to bring this baby in this world. But, what I personally feel that abortion should just be legal in the very early stages before the cell starts developing its hands and legs and starts to look more human than just a group of cells.

I remember reading this thread a long time back.. and thinking abt it for hrs. and hrs. and now its here all of a sudden to make me think all over again!!

Well personally I agree with Rose to some extent. I mean abortion shud be a choice for every individual.. If a mother doesnt want a baby and STILL has to give birth to it.. I think that both of their lives wil be spoilt.

They wont be able to accept each other.. but I dont think that means that when 2 ppl are happily marrried and ready for a baby.. the mother shud say that she does not want a baby.maybe for her figure or some absurd reason!! that wil be taking away the guy's happiness and rights over THEIR baby. So as a whole it shoud be the couple's decision.. AND the lady shud have a say in it

Some other explanations to legalize abortion would me some prevailing health conditions and so on.. so its not a matter of whats right or wrong!! its a matter of time and what is right at THAT time!!

Abortion is not murder. Why? Because until the fetus is viable to survive outside the uterus, it is not a separate being. It is a growth. Granted, it is a growth that looks like a Gummi-human, but it is still just a growth. Removing it has all the moral implications of removing any other growth.

For all of you who will cry out, "but what of the potential life?", I will answer, it is just like an unfertilized egg or an unused sperm. It had the potential to develop into a life, but didn't make it. Every time a woman menstruates, or a man ejaculates without fertilizing an egg, the same moral implications are at hand as are with an abortion. An opportunity to create a new life has passed.

I am pro-life myself, but I believe it's up to women to choose whether they want to have an abortion or not. In other words, one can be pro-choice even if one's values are pro-life.
What bothers me about this whole pro-life vs pro-choice argument is that there is the issue of sexism at play here. For instance, in both China and India, where females are treated as subhumans, the male-female ratio is skewed more towards males than females. The reason is that many of these families don't want female children, as they are seen as a burden, who don't contribute much in bringing food, money, etc to the table. Thus they're slaughtered or just dumped somewhere because of this viewpoint. This is a very typical belief held by people in underdeveloped countries.
Another thing that bothers me about the whole faux debate about abortion is that even in places like America, some people want their surnames to be passed down to their posterity. The view is that when women marry, they'll end up with a different surname. Now, the new trend is to keep the surname you were born with. For example, Hillary Rodham Clinton, initially was Hillary Rodham only, until American traditionalists took issue with that.
So obviously in America, sexism is not as big an issue as it is in China or India, but it does exist to some degree or another. So, personally, I don't think the debate should be framed as a religous issue, but rather a values issue. At least in America, Christians seem to be the ones heavily opposed to abortion, especially Southern Christians, and also Catholics.

More later. Got to jet to class.

With all of the advances made in cloning, the whole argument of "the potential for life" is just shit...i mean, scratching my skin, flaking of cells that could be implanted into an egg cell and be jump started to grow another "me"...shit, does that make me a murderer?
It's NOT your place to dictate your morals down to others. nor is it MINE to dictate my morals down to a pregnant woman. The choice should be there...you can choose NOT to abort, or choose to....that's when your morals should come in. It'ss a personal matter, and the violence and stigma surrounding it are horrendous...the choice is probably difficult enough to make with out women being called whores and murderers.

as far as abortion is concerned ...
let pregnant women decide it!!
its useless to connect with moral, ethnical, philosophical prespective .

in conclusion;

fetus is not a human ,just a mass of tissue.
each child should be wanted child.
nobody has right to impose their moral on pregnant women.
women should be able to control her own body.
abortion muct be kept legal, especially for all the rape and incest pregnancies.
abortion unwanted children reduces the number of abused children.
we need to remember that we are overpopulating the planet.
planned parenthood is group that focuses on contraception.

junkiennepali.....well lemme put it like this way!!
too much of abortion is mostly seen in unmarried couple.
abortion defines chioce!!.......>well if they are married as u mentioned ;....thn i guess this view would be fine to explain.

keep rocking.................>
When a couples is in a marriage it's also mean that their heart and soul should also be one. So whenever any party wanna take a serious action then they have to discuss the issue with each other. It's also a away of respecting each other. if both party start doing what they like then the marriage will not work....!!! Instead the issue will become more complicated. Your husband can never trust on you in the future. I know that there are some career minded women out there who give first priority to their work and then their family. If you are not ready to take responsibility of having a baby and your husband insist on having the baby then you should make it very clear that he have to take the responsible of the child rather than you.....he have to do more of the task of taking care of the baby than you....if needed he should be the one who should quit his job instead of you....if he agree with all that then problem is solve.....there is no reason of going for the abortion...

hahhaha
i am sorry mr junkie....but seems like u are not attentive towards ur class..study all those posting if u are intersted to know... u surely will get all ur answers.

oh so if u're not married then the kid does not belong to you....is that what you mean?
ya kid absolutley belongs to u and one who is pregnant...;)
well giving birth to child is not everything....being responsible parents is what it counts.

well here is few points to help u while making notes!since u were absent in class :)
sweet pie...............>
Did u know every 6 sec. a woman dies trying to abort a baby from a wrong hand? If someone considers a fetus as a baby then they should consider a woman as a human being too. She has the full right .....nobody wants to abort just for fun.....it's the hardest choice sometimes. But this happens a lot in a poor neighbourhoods and they can't even afford to raise a baby. It's better not to give birth to a baby if they can't afford to feed themselves. Sometimes men take advantage of women and run away when she's pregnant.
when a fetus is in the womb I don't believe it can think that way as u would imagine........but what the mother might ask herself, "Am I ready for the baby? Can I raise the baby with full responsibility? Can I provide him/her with sufficient needs? That's more important. When the baby comes out into the world only then it can actually sense and feel everything....he/she might ask his mom later why did she gave birth to him/her if she was to abandon her/him and left alone to live his/her life by themselves. It's a sensitive issue but unless our society can change u can't blame only women for aborting!
