Oh Thanks Detroit in routing Yankees. I could not believe when I saw the final score. Verlander rolls behind Tigers' 16 runs Righty wins 14th as Detroit takes three of four from New York By Tim Kirby / MLB.com Tigers Headlines DETROIT -- This is how a team gets a roll. Justin Verlander was dominant over seven innings and the Tigers pounded Mike Mussina and the rest of the Yankees' pitching staff in a 16-0 win on Monday night at Comerica Park. The Tigers took three of four games from the Yankees, marking the first time Detroit won a series in its last 11 tries. The Tigers last won a series on July 17-19 in a three-game sweep over the Twins. It was also the first time the Tigers won back-to-back games since beating the A's twice on Aug. 11-12. Manager Jim Leyland said that the easiest way for the Tigers to break out of their August funk was to get good outings from their starting pitchers. Verlander certainly did that on Monday. His fastball topped out at 99 mph, but he also mixed his offspeed pitches in one of his best starts of the season. He allowed three hits -- all of them singles -- over seven shutout innings in earning his 14th win of the season. The offense backed up Verlander with nine hits and six runs against Mussina by the end of the third. Brandon Inge and Curtis Granderson each had an RBI double, and all but two players in the starting lineup had a hit off Mussina, giving the Tigers a 6-0 lead after just three innings. Mussina was done after three innings and 72 pitches. The Tigers also roughed up the Yankees' bullpen after Mussina exited. Sean Casey hit his first triple in more than three years. Casey's triple off Sean Henn in the fifth was his first since Aug. 13, 2004, a span of 417 games. The Tigers scored eight runs off Henn in all and tallied at least one run in each of the first five innings. Inge hit a three-run double in the Tigers' six-run seventh. The 16 runs were the most the Tigers have scored this season. It was the highest-scoring game for the Tigers since they scored 18 agains the Twins last April. freak You must be very ectasic now with Red Sox's loss and Yankees win and the lead down to 3.5 games. I wanted to write yesterday about Wakefield's inept in recent outings and possibility of Yankees beating Baltimore. It just happened what I thought but today is a different day !! Lester has been faring well. Mussina will be in the loss column. You may want to revise your statement for Red Sox lost on day one. Go Red Sox Go !

Baltimore has owned us this season, ya the team that got clubbered for 30 odd home runs has our neck by the noose. anywho, Im looking forward to the game ! Lets hope Mussina doest repeat his last outing with orioles and shows what he can do like on sept 12th outing. anyways, I can also say go Yankees, but nevermind !!!

Eric Gagne spoilt the lead. Now the lead is 2.5. Same shit different day. Lester pitched pretty well. Hopefully, Beckett will do a good job tomorrow.

>> Mussina will be in the loss column<< Oh how lovely it is for a yankee to prove a bosox fan wrong ! MUHAHAHAHA MUHAHAHAHAHA "Mussina struck out six, walked one and has thrown 12 2-3 scoreless innings over two outings since his starting spot was restored. He has won at least 10 games in an AL-record 16 straight seasons." I still dont believe that we can outdo the sox, but hey, the way things are right now (both yankees winning and sox losing), who knows man ! So watch out. But seriously I hope detroit keeps losing !!! Wildcard baby wildcard !!!!!!

Umm, well yeah ! Definitely smaller that what was it ?? 14 and a 1/2 ?? hehe ... No worries dude, we (hopefully) will be still playing ballgame in the month of October. Its a different sport alltogether then. And I know your entire nation does not want us there, just pray that these so called other teams will make a difference on our advancement, cause if they dont we will meet the bosox eventually !!! Now as for me praying ? I dont pray for any team to loose, I just pray for my team to win. Hopefully my prayers will reach, whoever it is directed to, than yours, and your nations !!! Now I have a plane to catch !

Yankees were leading by 5 and when I checked for the second time, it was 6-6. TB should not beat Red Sox only- it should be Yankees too. Red Sox won - so the lead will remain 2.5. I want Indians to be the top team in the league so that they will face Yankees.

shirish dai said "I want Indians to be the top team in the league so that they will face Yankees." dai ko mukh ma dhut ra bhat :=) If Yankees has to loose couple more games to matchup against Indians I am all for it .... The Last Team I want Yankees to play in 5 game series is Angels. I don't know why Angels always play better against Yankees. I think Angels is the only team that Yankees have losing record since Torre joined the team... Did ya know Yankees have 6-0 record against Indians this season :=)

Basically I did not want Red Sox to handle Yankees....let the tribes eliminate the empire. Freak I do not jump like that for I have known that those kind of happiness have short life.

Congratulation Red Sox - Thank You Baltimore Phew What a loss to Yankees after three run lead.
Rivera's bad job puts Bosox on top of AL EAST.
Thank You Orioles...Muaahh !
Freak,
I have been telling you that there are other variables in the Red Sox and Yankees equation.
Another day begins..... Another celebration begins..... Magic number 1 for the best record, achieved by either Red Sox win or Cleveland's loss. Go Red Sox !!
