The deal centers on a compromise offered by Republicans that included a temporary worker program backed by President George W. Bush. It also would allow illegal immigrants who have been in the United States more than five years a chance to become citizens if they meet a series of requirements and pay a fine Better I have remained here illegally.............I could be a citizen................People who try to remiain legal and go for legal process to obtain green Card or h1B has many hurdles that govt has placed................God Bless America.

It's really sad that the bill got blocked in the test vote. I hope it gets passed after two weeks. And it is not a question of fairness. Fairness कै कुरा गर्ने हो भने पनि most of us who are in USA in some kind of visas except DV or H-1 have worked "illegally" or got paid "under the table" one time of another. So, we cannot say that only illegal immigrants are lawbreakers and the rest of us are ultimate law abiders. The fact remains that if we want, we may eventually get green card if we stay on track. It is just a question of how many years it will take. Another fact that is that most of us on multiple visas can go to Nepal and come back whenever we want. But the illegal immigrants don't have such privileges, yet they have still contributed to American economy. And another fact is that guest worker program is not an amnesty. Many hurdles must be overcome before one gets a greencard. It's not easy. I will be glad for our Nepali brethren if they are able to get guest worker status and are on their way to green card. And from what I have heard from new green card holders, life is not easy even after green card. It's a whole new ball game, they say - lots of new responsibilities, new expectations and all that.

Pandit jee, You mean to say dishwashing is not a job? I have done dishwashing when I was a student -when I worked in the school cafeteria. And if it comes to that, I am ready to that again. Dishwashing job for immigrants is just another way to make a living. I could be mistaken but your remarks sounded disdainful and could not resist posting this reposte.

if all these illegal aliens get a green card, it would be a slap to all the legal aliens in the US and many more who has returned to their native countries because they couldn't get the residency. and yes more bad news.......by offering illegal aliens a green card Bush and his government is inviting more illegals and possibly terroist into this country soon.

Thanks America. You are known as a country with strict law. But not really when you want. Legal immigrants have hundreds of hurdles from any paperworks to tax benifit. But you support nonimmigrants make them citizen......

How many American can say that they do not descend from an immigrant family? How many American can say their forefather was not an Irish, Scottish, English, German and so on and so forth? I agree with some of the Nepales in this thread that there are some Nepalese hypocrites who think they had every right to be in America because now they have legal documemnts and who do not don't. Well, like it or not, there would be Nepalese coming to the US one way or other, and there is nothing you hypocrites can do about it!

Koloketa..let me clear you one thing..all american who came here before are immigrants and so is australia land of immigrants..it is not like past and is history when there were times there was no law...red indians were the origin of USA and simlarly aborigines native of australia... and it doesn't mean you can settle on your own way in this century.....every country has its immiration law....personally i don't care..its good if some of our nepalese brother or sister is getting, but i will say priorities should be given to those immigrants who are staying here legally..... I want to say one more thing..it should also be the land of law also...do you know australia has one of the toughest immigrants rule in the world and it is often critisied by human rights group....it deports people..similarly japan though it is not the counrty of immigrants also deport if it finds illegal immigrants..but america is very easy if you see in compare to australia and japan..at least it won' t deport any people..at least here illgal can work freely without thinking about deportation......and forget about cheap labour and bla bla over here..if you go every corner of the rich counrty,,every illgal people people is discrminated in the salary..the only thing in america you can voice your opinion but in other country where there is tough immigrants rule , they can' t voice fearing of deportation.....
