In the early '90s, there was this first Nepali electronic newsletter called The Nepal Digest (TND). It was started by Rajpal Singh in Illinois, and, for a time, was a widely circulated ONLY one electronic newsletter among Nepalis about Nepal. Every week, TND came to your inbox as an email, filled with news about Nepal with occasional views/debates/discussions of fellow Nepalis from around the world (though for some reason, US-based Nepalis tended to be more vocal than Nepalis elsewhere). TND started to lose its charm when The Kathmandu Post and other Nepali newspapers started putting up their Web sites. People started getting their news directly from Nepal. This led to a greater demand for news analyses as opposed to mere news reportage from electronic sources. Soc.Culture.Nepal (SCN), a Usenet group, fulfilled that demand up to a point in the late 1990s. Unlike TND, which was an editor-collated product with its own weekly cycle, SCN allowed users to post their comments and analyses and get almost-instant feedbacks from anyone wanting to respond to postings. This led to lively, if occasionally acrimonious, exchanges of views. One major practical downside of SCN was its totally unmoderated nature. Often Indians and Pakistanis would cross-post their various unrelated-to-Nepal jhagada on SCN. And wading through their dross to get to Nepal-related stuff eventually became a boring and tiring chore for most SCN users. Then came Sajha.com at the start of this century. It combined the best of SCN features with loose moderation. This kept the Indian and Pakistani cross-posters out, and allowed pretty much Nepali-only to post their views. Sajha's flagship section -- the kurakani section -- took off after the Royal Massacre of 2001. Later, easy-to-use chatrooms and word-of-mouth publicity helped bring in many other Nepalis to the site. A diversity of visitor's postings helped make the site interesting and 'sticky' (some say: addictive) for most visitors. Now, in 2005, the electronic communication/info sharing process appears to have entered a new phase with the rise of Nepal-related blogs. In the past few months, many excellent Nepal-related blogs have come up. Some of the blogs are group-blogs; some are sustained individually. Some have great fresh news contents. Others are well-written and well-presented. A few are merely entertaining. But altogether, they ARE siphoning attention -- the most precious commodity -- away from Sajha. As a well-wisher of Sajha, I think the time has come for Sajha to redefine its mission and and differentiate itself from its 'competitors'. What is Sajha for in these changing times? For news? For views? For debates? For announcing community events? For sharing the photos of community events? For social activism? Other well-wishers of Sajha and San himself must start thinking ahead so that Sajha -- in these times of rapidly changing technologies -- does not suffer the fate of its predecessors. Something to think about. oohi ashu

Chor ko khutta tan bahanko yehi ho. Gu lai chalaya gandha. Rachan lai chalayo mukha bhari chita. Bathroomcoffee. You just won't stop from your useless diatribe, would you? Listen, you stinky bathroom ko coffee. Just look at your name. What does that suggest? Do I need to say more? Glorifying my life style? Hell, I don't have to glorify my lifestyly. I don't need to. I HAVE a wonderful life. Do you want to compete? Let's see. How about posting a pic of your dwelling and my mahal? Our photos. Let's post pictureof ourselves. I bet I am far more beautiful than you in every category. How big is your bhundi from consuming nothing but chicken and beer? Education. Let's post our transcirpts. Jobs. Give the name. I bet I have far superior job than you. Salary? Do we even need to go there? Spouse. Category - job, look, salary. Offspring category - intelligence. I can post the result from a reknown psychologist who did testing on my daughter. Behavioral and cognitive. Car we drive. Are you ready? Start and go. We will be seeing your big bhundi, let's see your guts too. (I have noticed you came her just to gain attention from me. The talk is about Sajha, you jerk, not about me. Why don't you get this in your thick skull. I hope San is taking notice.) By the way I still live in Watertown.

as resident regent of this site, let me begin by reassuring all of you that nothing is over until I say it's over. or, until san has his inevitable midlife crisis, sells sajha to sergey brin and his cronies, buys that dreamcar convertible, and drives off into the sunset with some hot blonde half his age! that being said, it has come to my attention through my network of sajha spies (they're everywhere, so mind what you say, and watch your "six"), that there is a certain unnamed agent frequenting this site who we shall call "schleprock". while we have yet to determine any criminal intent on this character's behalf, we have reason to suspect that wherever this personality goes, or--more specifically--whichever sites he or she visits, chaos invariably ensues. again, while no intentional malfeasance is likely, things always seem to fall apart whenever this person is around. call it coincidence, call it bad luck, call it Irritable Bhai/Bhahini Syndrome. call it what you will, as regent, it is incumbent upon me solely to warn all of you, my subjects, to maintain constant vigilance here in sajha. if you notice anything suspicious or unusual, report it immediately to me, c/o san the man with the master plan. in closing, always remember that the center cannot hold, and things do fall apart. seacrest, i mean, sajhakoraja out...

I think Sajha should add a RSS feed to my blog. - http://demrepubnepal.blogspot.com/ My blog does not have Sajha's traffic. Sajha does not have my blog's gravitas. It would be mutually beneficial. The newest article's title shows up on the feed button.

Suggestion to Sajha: don't fight the new, emerging tech, incorporate it. My blog also has audio and video components.

Hi all, I really enjoy browsing sajha.com once I get time. I read some of your MSG, I really like to read positive as well as negative comments. ur MSG can be thrived in many different topics, so people from different profession enable to interact. I met San dai and other friends in sajha-convention 2004 in DC-metro; however, I didn't spend much time ( coz I used to think sajha is just like bakabas...... but in reality, it works a lot, it's depend on we, how we persuade) Sajhaheties, please go and participate in sajhs- convention, if there will be in 2005. As I understand, sajha is not a message board for a particular group, such as talking about politic, ANA stuffs, sex. It has no limit to demonstrate your talent, providing information and much more........

NK, At its best, Sajha is like ball-room dancing, a group tango, if you will: You post something, others post other stuff, and conversations flow smoothly, wittily and with joy, in a seemingly random yet surprisingly co-ordinated manner. No tension, just fun. At other times, it's like bull-fighting: you are the matador, and you wave the cloth -- knowing that the some bull out there will get all excited to gore you to (cyber) death. The thrill then lies in exercising super-sharp reflexes to dodge the bull's horns, to run around strategically, to still keep your swagger and to ultimately send the bull falling to the ground. [OK, I confess that I watch too many Spanish movies!] Still, at other times, reading postings here is like watching Tour de France over a course of several days. There are the usual posters, of course, who return to Sajha year in and year out. But then, there are also many others who make the whole thing fun, exciting and entertaining. oohi ashu

Yeah, yeah I have noticed NK screaming at me from your name. :) Three years! Has it been that long? Time swims, doesn't it? Yeah, I don't want any one to reply. I just want people to read and then forget it. Wouldn't that be super? Ashu, my dear, you forgot one (huge) element of your Tango analogy - SEXUAL tension! Were you so modest not to mention? Hard to believe it. Yes, sometimes kurakani is a Tango dance WITH the sexual energy - Just look at some famous female stars and replies onward. Tour de France too. Boring (to me). Sometimes like watching a French movie. Nothing happens, but everybody is sad at the end. But, mostly when I post I feel like I am that matador - tal na sur sanga. Don't you too? And you know what? Often I read Sajha like watching MTV with sound off :)!
