Finally, Nepali media houses covered the story. Turns out the email was real. Interesting to note that CPN (Maoists) considered Sajha first! Go sajha!

Actually, I noticed that the ceasefire is only for Dashain (9 days) and does extend to Chhath as the email allegedly from Mahara states above.

Nepalnews reports "The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has said it would suspend all of its armed operations during Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepalis, beginning October 20" Sounds like they got to do more killings till then (next five days)

Hey, guys! As I wrote here that its a drama as they did in previous ceasefire. In this ceasefire drama, the maoists were just testing government whether it will welcome and announce immediate ceasefire from govt. side as a response to Maoist announcement. When government did not announce any ceasefire they denounced their own ceasefire and on the following day they came up with another ceasefire. The difference was in ther length of ceasefire duration. They were testing govt., and since govt. failed to respond, the maoists are giving pressure on govt. by giving only a week long ceasefire and a room for extension provided govt. reciprocates. This is maths of politics. GP

Not particularly interested to engage in a debate with GP ji who is a fantastic political analyst and an expert on the Maoists, however his conclusive remark about the Maoists in his posting ( Maobadi haru ko prabhav niskriya hundai chha) caught my attention. Because I also happen to think on the same line. I also think that the Maoists have lost an extremely consequential political power within last two years. And that loss is continually increasing- to our great relief. I will explain shortly what I meant and how I reached to this conclusion. Let me first speculate about GP's explanation. Knowing his views well enough, I have come to the conclusion that what GP wrote above is not what he actually believes. He actually believes that Maobadi ko prabhav ghatdai hoina baru badhdaichha. Then why would he post the opposite statement ? Tyo kura ta GP matrai jaandachhan. Yes, GP actually believes that the influence of the Maoists is growing. Proof ? Come on. This guy believes that a lot of intellectuals are supporting the Maoists. He even issued a fatwa right here on Sajha to kill Daman Nath Dhungana. He offered that he will donate his hard earned dollars (was it Yen, then ?) for assassination of Daman Nath Dhungana. His sin ? According to GP, he was liberal to the Maoists. He believes Girish Pokharel, a good friend of mine in DC, is a Maoist and his emagazine, The Nepali Post, is maobadi ko mukhpatra. Why only Girish Pokharel, he beleives that I am myself a Maoist. As recent as a few weeks ago, he posted a reply (on one of Ashu's threads) reiterating his belief that Nepe is a Maoist. Right GP ji ? So a guy who probably thinks that anything that moves is a Maoist states that Maobadi ko prabhav niskriya hunadaichha. GP, why is, in your thesis, the conclusion quite opposite of the results ? Now about my own assessment of the Maoists. I have said it many times - the Maoists are extremely powerful because they are carrying extremely powerful political weapons ( the question of full democracy and other social-economic issues) that nobody else is carrying. The only way to weaken and eventually defeat the Maoists is to disarm them from these weapons. And the only way to do that is to snatch these weapons by pro-democracy forces in the country. And this is really happening. Thanks to Gyanendra maharaj ko open adventures which have only accelerated the process. The republicanism is no more a Maoist agenda. It is now our- the democracy and freedom loving people's agenda. Slowly but surely, the Maoists are being left with their obsolete weapon of communism and illegitimate violence. They will have to give these up. Whether they do or not, with these , they will never be able to be a real threat to our democracy and freedom. Even in the worst scenario, these terrorists will be reduced to, let me borrow Kerry's word, a nuisance. We can live with that, can't we ?

Nepe Sir, I wish this posting does not end up like Bush-Kerry war (GP-Nepe war). War of negativity? Nepe sir, I don't think I wrote to you that you are a Maoists. If I remember, I asked you to reply / give a comment on sone heinus killing by Maoists. I surely made a mistake by making that personal comment on you, I already had apologized. I consider the file is already closed. Well, you can continue if you like. Thats your choice, hoina ta. Well, Sajha.com readers are intelligent enough to understand what I meant in my last postings and I am very much indebted to you making much clearer vision on the sides fence we stand on. NepaliPost.com who own's is not my interest, neither I am making comment because Girish or Sirish Pokharel is not my friend. I don't make comments based on whether someone is my friend or not. That was my observation. I never said "Kill Daman Nath Dhungana". If I have said such thing, that should be typing mistake..... hahahah... Nepe sir, you are running ad. twisting facts. You are free to do that. Freedom is not only to me and to you and it allows you twist using the loopholes of the freedom. I would like to see the posting, reference if you believe you are true. Nepe ji, like you and many peoples don't believe that AMALE (UML) headed by Makune is not a "REAL" communist party? Right? Just because they annex UML abbreviations at the end of their name? So, do you believe that the NCP(Maoists) are real Maoists that they were claiming for last 8 years? Now, they want to settle? with King. They want to keep multiparty system? They want to keep western style democracy? Is it increase in influence? or decrease in influence of Maoists? Well, anarchy because of Maoists have increased, so fear too. Thus, let me rest the conclusion on readers. GP

"So, do you believe that the NCP(Maoists) are real Maoists that they were claiming for last 8 years?" they have lost power from the ground up, they can never create a society based on their original ideology now. only thing that can be done is peace talks and settle down ...hope, it works..btw, do u think the civil peace commission is going to work??

My analysis for maoist is that they are never there for the replacement of the King or political party. Those peoples are there just to prove that they exist in the political scenario of Nepal. They know that they can not rule entire Nepal, but their nature of being soshak is shining brightly and happy to rule some few villages. I sometimes even feel like are they the real political powers??? In the mass of bad political guys ... they also stand parallel..some are filling thier bellies by taking ghoos.. and some are feeling their bellies by poor rural peoples pasina and ragat choos. And as for saying the increase and decrease of power... there is no increase neither decrease in the power of maoist. If pressure cooker bomb and socket bomb is all the things they have to uproot the palace... then that will be joke. For all the years throughout their appearance they have nothing more than that... and by the way of choosing their weapons it is clear that they are not to uproot anything but to deeproot the violence in the rural society and replace being jamindars. Govt. should be prepared that if the peace talk breaks down this time... wipe them off completely then. By the way we are building bad impression here by asking peoples to the table and begging for peace. Peace must be the compulsory agenda and if some partys doesn`t accepts it . then it has to be uprooted from grass level completely. Ceasefire or no ceasefire .... one who breaks the law of civil society, one who kills innocent people in the open should be behind the bars!!!!

Why current ceasefire? 1. To reorganize: transfer the explosives and weapons to their stronghold. They needed a time. BRB wrote long time ago in Kantipur, that Mao had said when opponent is strong you retreat: with a step back, and when you are strong make offensive attacks. Well, Mao was not necessary for this statement, but, Maoists follow Mao's words but, not all word only a few: Mao did not say janata ko sampata loota, he said if you borrow it, return it. Its not happening. They are using Maoist words to strengthen themselves not public opinion. But, to strengthen fears. 2. Maoists in India: specially in Bihar are caught day by day. It matters in Nepal because they don't large stock of Ammunitions in Nepal. So, cut in supply from India means virtual stop in Nepal, instead of slowing down the fear in Nepal, its a Buddimani to announce ceasefire. 3. Its another trick to ask government to release Maoists in Jail. Its what they did last time. Once most of the important Maoists were released by govt. they withdrew ceasefire and went to war. In reciprocation, how many citizens the Maoists captured were left free? Practically none. Because, when someone disagrees with Maoists, their policy is run a fatwa against him/her, then, catch and kill. Its a fact for last 8 years. Peoples in DC don't have to fear, thats why they can be Maoist supporter so that once Maoist come to power can are dreaming to be offer to occupy a nice revolving chair in Nepal. Its not going to happen, dears. 4. These days public support have declined because of the random killing in Kathmandu. Political parties are so much polarized that Maoist news are not on top line as it used to be. Now, Girija is on top news because he knows how to be on top news by creating rheoteric (chk. spl). statements. In this polarized situation, public attention was diverted from Maoists. Ceasefire is another nice way to be on news media. A maoist supporter once told to me that it needs regular killing or fear to remain on news. 5. World politics has changed since 9/11. Maoists have changed their positions since then. They are trying to get attention of Americans. They did not speak a word when 12 Nepalis were killed in Iraq. Maoists have killed Nepalis in Nepal for the same reason Nepalis were killed by Iraq terrorists: that is helping Americans. Its not killers are different but their reasoning is same. A Pokharel, security officer in US embassies and plu another person was killed in Kathmandu a couple of years ago for the same reason...... Recently, Maoist Bombed US ... Center in KTM. Maoist leadership even scared to take responsibility. They ran different story. Now, Americans are not asked to visit to Nepal, but, are asked to keep away from Nepal. Under such scenario, the tourists are in decline and Biz. houses are not paying money (ransom) to Maoists from back door, but, without biz. in move they can not pay ransom? All small to biz. house have to pay ransom to Maoists in order remain working, otherwise they become baliko boko. So, to allow them biz. at this peak season, the ceasefire is good move. Its not sole reason but, its a reason. ...... GP

Ok our press bodies are not publishing the main important news in Nepal. That should be: Although Maoists declared ceasefire for a week or so, the villagers of various parts of Nepal currently working/residing in Kathamndu Valley ARE NOT GOING BACK TO THIER VILLAGES for celebrating dashain. REASON: why wold they, if they go for a week, that's enough for Maoist to extort these people for money... That time will be enough to harrass these poeple by Maoists and so on. Idiot f**king Maoists.... people are understanding albeit slowly your strategy.. so now people will not bring themsleves into your Net. Don't expect money from your ceasefire. The Govt. didn't announce ceasefire to match your ceasefire.. Think WHY?

Prem_dai Think WHY? History tells. Thats, why should they match? You raised one good point. This can be trick to trap innocent peoples who trusting Maoist ceasefire might go to villages and find themselves later in the Maoist trap. Do you remember, BRB in his previous ceasefire he was telling his interpretation of ceasefire. Ceasefire does not include cease in extortions (oh, they renamed it as Chanda from those who volunteerily give and tax collection from those who don't give it volunteerily: it was told by BRB a few years back). Don't trust the Maoist leadership's ceasefire, its only in paper because the lower cadres won't stop executing their fatwas and leadership will have their own interpretation. So, its just confusing statement, not a real ceasefire. I don't think it will have real outcome, though I hope but with fraction of percentage. Maoist leadership does not control its cadre level activities: looting (oh, chanda collection). GP

GP ji, It is good to see you are now retracting from all those, I would call, supid things you've said. It is positive and therefore I would not stretch this conversation. However, I would give you a friendly caution that those statements of your are and will remain ON THE RECORD at Sajha as long as Sajha continues to exist. So they might come back to hunt you again and again. Therefore you better post things responsibly. It's for your own good. ******************************* Prem Dai, Your one liner to my posting does not say anything. Please do elaborate, if you are interested to have a little discussion about what I wrote.

Maoists have only stopped (at least in paper) physical attacks and according to dpm, they are not stopping extortions and abductions. Thats why i think Prem dai has a good point.

So what the f**uck happening with Maoist's promise? Maoists abduct over 50 Jana Morcha activists Maoist rebels have attacked at a rally organised by pro-left Jana Morcha Nepal (People's Front Nepal-PFN) and abducted 52 PFN activists. According to reports, the rebels attacked at a group of nearly 150 PFN activists at Nishi village in western district of Baglung Sunday. At least eight PFN workers were seriously injured in the attacks, said Krishna Thapa, Secretary of PFN Baglung district unit. This is the second such attack upon Jana Morcha workers in Baglung district. The PFN workers have been facing wrath of the rebels as they continue to expose what they call atrocities being perpetrated by the rebels. nepalnews.com by Oct 19 04

Prem dai and others. their "Sexy" promise start from October 20th. So, cadres are rushing to give press release as early as possible... hahahahah.... You create news today: announce that Maoists have captured 1000 PFN workers. Then, engage in capturing them for rest of next week, and if someone objects tell them in Sexy language that "Hey, they were captured long time before the ceasefire started, did not you hear 1000 PFN capturing news before the cease fire started.". Now, Maoist leadership is playing the game of words. Govt. did Sexed up with Maoist ceasefire using sexy language. Are you tired of "Sexy" words, me too. Face it buddy. GP
