I agree. Should have used interpreter instead. Its not the matter of speaking without accent; its the matter of conveying understandable information to the audience. She would have earned a huge amount of respect if she had asked for an interpreter instead of showing off where she failed miserably.

Its a matter of nation's pride as well. You definitively do not want to have goosebumps when your there listening to her. Also, as Nalapani suggested, she did not have to deliver speech in English if she knew she would suck at it. Her attitude, overconfidence and unprofessionalism have a combined effect on this.

So it's not the accent she has it's her overconfident attitude that you are mocking? Dude, she is giving a speech, you gotta show some confidence..besides I don't find it that overconfident.

I find myself defending for the lady not because I am from her party OR that I didn't find it a little funny, neither would I support her giving another speech in english. What I was merely pointing out was that a butchered english-or accent, is not something that should be mocked like what you guys are doing. NEpalko bejjat? As if everybody else is doing a great job keeping the ijjat that one bad speech ruined everything. I do sense some prejudice on our part; maybe guys are just pissed off that these people are elected mantris and MPs out of nowhere, no qualification and are representing Nepal in international stage, that too with illegible accent. Some of the southerners might find your and mine accent funny, should that bar us from giving a speech in english?

I am not trying to defend her and not trying to argue whether she should use interpreter or not because it is past issue and this can be a future reference for Nepalese officers. But I want to state the facts (I dont have proof to claim though)
- She pronounced around 50% words correctly (forget about the fluency) and I can say she is probably within the top 100 literate CA members because there are other hundreds who even can not read Nepali Language properly. And how about some who even can not sign and attending the adult literacy classes?
- Most of you are ignoring the fact that the 80% SLC pass students of government schools have exact  same pronounciation as this minister. Generally called 'Bhaisi english'.

She might be good in leadership but should have thought twice before going to the rostrum.  She should have practised at her hotel too and even she struggled.

About the interpreter, I am not sure but I think if you speak in Nepali you just give the attendees the copy of your speech (in english). It would be pride for her but who cares except we?

Maobadi khate haru ko sabhasad haru 90% yestai khate ho but we can't do nothing...Hamro desh ko haalat k hola? Yesta manchhe le desh chalairaka chhan..Alikati educated and talented lai ta election ma Banduk, Khukuri, etc etc dekhayera harai haale ni yi chor maobaadi haru le..now remaining is like this bitch...

But look at some Maobadi's nature here...aafno kei kura pani naramro bhanna nasakne. J kura lai pani they got some explanation. Even Prachande's video kaanda, they got some explanations..saala aatankakaari haru....

Gabbar Singh, guys like you diminish the hope of my country. You don't understand the 'a' of argument and just label somebody maobadi. Go read what was written and see if I was defending her speech or just calming the general nerves on not focusing the bickering towards a funny accent.

Try to think from your brain, not your knees. Reading what you wrote, "thukka khate ho" I'd rather her represent my country than your "khate" sentiments.

She could not pronounce a single damn word, Reproductive health = republic health, decade =  dedicated..............And no single sentece was meaningful. WTF wrong with you people ? Bethik lai bethik bhand kina tauko dukhai?

@ Stiffler: First thing First. I never used your name anywhere but you did address me. That was insane. Now, I never said that Basnet guy did right. I am never supporting (or defending, in ur word). He is also a goon and I insist that he should be punished by law. Here comes my point. No one must be above the law (which Maoist terrorists were and are right now).  The only thing I want to express again is a minister like such bastard lady could not lead the country. Please get some educated and intellectuals to lead the country. I don't mind which party he/she is from. I know there are very few educated in so called terrorist (ouch, I mean to say Maoist) party. If you are dedicated and worried about the country, don't u want any educated people to lead the country and lift it from such a disastrous moment which it is facing right now? Think yourself. It is not only matter of english, if anyone had given her an script in Nepali, she would not have been able to speak that well let alone speaking in english. My bad on calling your name out, sorry. But, apart from me, I don't see anybody else asking to stop the mockery of the speech..do you? So I assumed the comments were for me, a sound assumption if you ask me. And by the way, I am not a maoist. I am not any -ist.

That's your opinion and looks like most over here. I really don't know this lady so I cannot make any counter point on this; I do realize that many, if not most, mantris and MPs in our country are not qualified. My point is that the hatred stems from this very fact, we are not accepting them as our leaders; why not keep it that way instead of humuliating her for her speech, that's all I am saying.

I know what you're saying and I laughed at the speech myself and maybe cringed a little. But I don't want to belittle her for that handicap she has. Few friends I know have horrible accent, I am not going to tease them for that.
Again, I am not defending her about her qualifications, I am just saying DO NOT MOCK ANY PERSON SO HATEFULLY FOR THEIR LACK OF SKILL on certain things. Try to understand what I am defending here and you might rethink your position.

Tell me truthfully if you want such lady to be ur leader, irrespective of any caste or party...And I am more inclined towards Maoists (negatively) coz they still think they can be superior by intimidating or killing people which could be easily observed by the statement of their leaders that contrues they will not let go their weapons. What does that mean??? Don,t u think so?
