Kanchanpur, Feb 12 - Making his country proud, a Nepali youth has become a scientist at the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the agency responsible for the country's public space programme. Thirty-year-old Rajendra Bhatta of Bhim Dutta Municipality-4 was recently selected as the Satellite Calibration Scientist at the NASA centre based in the state of Virginia. Bhatta obtained his Master's Degree in Engineering at the Dakota University on scholarship and was selected for the famed global post with the help of professors at his university. Following his success, people are flocking to Bhatt's home to congratulate his family members, who claim he is the first Nepali scientist to ever work for NASA. Before leaving Nepal, Bhatta, who graduated in electronic and engineering from the Pulchowk Engineering Campus, had worked as an engineer for the Nepal Airlines Corporation for two years. I am so fired up by this posting and don't know why I am wasting my time trying to understand this article.......After reading the article again.... I am thinking maybe this article is correct afterall though not complete..........................Mr Bhatta may indeed be the first scientist to ever work for NASA ( and people.... this is what www.kantipuronline.com failed to clarify) .................from Bhim Dutta Municipality-4 as the Calibration Scientist who graduated from Dakota University. This is just me expressing my frustration at Kantipuronline for not checking the facts prior to publishing this news.

Have a look at this link. http://www.nasa.gov/centers/kennedy/about/information/jobs_faq.html
And one of the FAQ
Q. Does NASA hire foreign nationals?A. Because NASA is an agency of the government of the United States of America, employment with NASA is restricted to citizens of the United States of America. Also, although NASA does contract with private industry for services, generally these contracts are with major companies as opposed to individuals

I dont wanna blame Mr Rajendra for all this publicity stunt. He might have told his story of getting job at one of the laboratory which have some projects with NASA. The same news when told by their parents became a festival in his hometown bringing the 'Nepalese journalist" at their attention. Some Nepalese think that 'white colored' people are like 'god', they know everything, and if somebody works for "never heard" project, they start to tell "we are the first". I believe Rajendra is working for any laboratory with NASA project. Good luck for his future though. At a different note, education and information plays vital role in the development of a society. But in our country, current political system is stressing on "quota system" in employement, "free diploma" distribution for uneducated and "armed training" for illiterates to fullfill their dreams. Shame on you policy makers!

Hey guys, Why are you all talking against Mr Bharra? He got a job at NASA, congratulations!! Does anyone know for sure that he told the new media himself as the first person to get job in NASA? I don't think so. Some stupid journalist wrote it with some unverfied facts and all of a sudden Mr Bhatta is being targeted. Though I am not in contact with Mr Bhatta these days, I've known him personally. He is a very intelligent, yet a humble person. A scholar of his talent and knowledge obviously has the information of other Nepalease working for NASA and also the consequences of boasting fake credentials. So chill out and write to kantipuronline for correction rather than ruining Mr Bhatta's name in public forum. Don't let your jealousy (if any) or any reason to ruin reputed Nepalease names. Now when you search for "Rajendra Bhatta", "Nepali at NASA" etc. you see all these dirty posts. It doesn't give good impression of any of us in any way in national or international community. Congratulations Bhatta dai.

New Trader makes a good point. We can't just assume Mr Bhatta made a fake claim or boasted those achievements just because it appeared in the news media. I would blame the author of the article for printing these exaggerations without verifying the facts. Nepali media are notorious for sensationalizing even minor things, more often than not. These days employers are known to scan the internet for information on prospective job candidates, -google, facebook, etc. So let's not make negative comments about anyone based on assumptions. Natra tyo media ra hami ke nai pharak bhayo ta? Peace.

Bathroom likes to butt into others conversations telling them to mind their own business. The irony of it all. Some people just don't get it.

Just to clear your confusion---He is working as a contractor for NASA. Not directly in NASA. He went to South Dakota State University. Kantipur says Dakota University..Its different. Either way Good Luck to him and wish him every success.
