Just wanted to start a thread where we can just talk about movies, old and new, so that we know which movie to trash, which movie to see in a theater or wait till DVD or cable time.

I will start with my crappy review on the last movie I watched. Comments are welcome by anyone who has watched or want to watch this movie.

10,000 BC
All I can say about this movie is that it is strictly okay!! The story drags a lot and there are goofs in a lot of sequences. Also, the movie does not have breathtaking action nor does it have good acting. However though, what saves this movie from bring utter crap is a cheesy storyline which keeps you pretty interested and hooked on to your seats. The cinematography of the landscapes and the final pyramid scenes are awe inspiring. The special effects are extravagantly well done. Camilla Belle, who previously played the tomboyish role in the movie Chumscubber looks like a PREHISTORIC GODDESS this time around but does not have much acting to do. The show stealer is Steven Strait who played the role of the protagonist D'leh and did full justice to what was required of him and the screen time he enjoyed. Overall, an Okay movie but below par for the prehistoric genre.

The Movie I want to see right now in a theatre is 21. If anyone has already seen the movie, please share what you felt. I know, I can get the reviews from anywhere in the web but a first hand opinion from a Sajhaite would not do me any bad and is the theme of this thread anyway!!!

Into The Wild

One of the top three movies I have watched in my entire life. Sean Penn has always been one of my very favorite, and this one couldn't go wrong.

Kurt Cobain used to say in interviews that Pearl Jam's music was such a poor trial at grunge music and that he hated Eddie Vedder as a musician. If Kurt was alive today, I am sure he would have changed his view towards Eddie. The music is awesome.

"The Mist : F**k spielberg for taking ma $8 away....."
Soullesseyes, what the fk has Spielberg got to do with "The Mist" anyway?

Oys Hero number 2, ke cha?
Yup, Mr. & Mrs. Iyer was gripping.... especially that "I'm gonna chop your balls off" part was kinda chilling.. aah!! I forgot ... watched it a long time ago, but it's good.

Anyway, had a double dose of Hindi movies in last 12 hours... "One Two Three" -- was hilarious -- I laughed like crazy through out the movie. Watched the "Race" today, and it totally sucked... okay Abbas Mustan! You guys are making a fkin' suspense movie, how about one, two or at most three twists in a movie -- not frigging truck load of twists -- it looked more like you made hole after hole in the movie and you had no friggin' idea how to patch those holes up. "Usual Suspects" had only one suspense, and it worked. Okay, that dark girl was hot, guys performed good, and there was this cutie pie and thats about it. Stunts sucked! Wtf man!! I am pretty bummed out about my $8 wasted on hot girls who didn't even show the goodies.

Frakkk!

Well, watched this one last week and the theatre was about 75% full.

Harold and Kumar was not as funny as the first one but I still think that it gave me my money’s worth specially after having been disappointed by lots of movies this year. Yes, it is RATED movie and has loads of sequences where you would regret taking a family with. Although those scenes are outright stupid, they are hilariously funny and not on the same page as those we’ve seen in awful ones like Date Movie or Meet the Spartans. In the first one, Harold & Kumar goes thru a helluva adventure in their quest to eat at White Castle.  In this one, a comical adventure starts after their trip to Amsterdam to legally smoke weed is obstructed after they are mistaken for terrorists and sent to the aweful prison in Guantamano Bay where they are treated with "sausages". They somehow need to escape the prison and get to Texas where they can seek help from a college friend who enjoys a high political position and power. The movie is loaded with funny dialogues and sequences which mostly aims at ridiculing the American stereotypes and post 9/11 fear. Also, there are also a lot of racial(inoffensive though!!) and weed jokes including one with a character playing George Bush. My favourite scene was the one is which Harold and Kumar runs away from this gang of black people in Alabama after having had their Mustang stuck when in actuality those peeps were only trying to help H&K 's car get back on track. Both Kal Penn and Cho acts better than they have in WhiteCastle and this time the character of Harold also has a lot of say in the proceedings. If I were asked for a CON in the movie, than it must have to be the loose and unbelievable story but then there aren’t many comedies with great stories anyway. Well, H&K2 is a darn good comedy but just remember to watch it with someone who you are comfortable with watching some nude scenes.

Harold and Kumar - Escape from Guantamano Bay - a cool 3.5 outta 5

Last Movie watched Iron Man - 3/5 (My review is forthcoming)

IRON MAN

I watched this movie in an 11:45 late night show last Saturday (day after it was released). The theatre was so crowded, approximately around 95% full. My friend and I entered five minutes into the movie and we could barely find seats. We had to settle for ones that were just two rows behind the gigantic screen. And this ELDERLY man seated just behind us could not just stop clapping and whistling for every scene in which Iron Man kicked some arse.

Well, the story is pretty simple. A hero (would be) gets detained and tortured by terrorists which compels him to make an armored weapon for himself enroute of a successful escape. He returns home, a different man who wants to change the whole structure of his large Weapons Manufacturing Company citing ethical reasons and at the same time begins working in the innovation of his Iron Combat suit. And with the help of that suit he becomes IRON MAN and goes about knocking the hell out of all the bad guys out there.

For those who were expecting just hardcore sci-fi action (like me), this movie might not enthrall you at the same level Transformers or SpiderMan 2 might have had. However, the storyline demanded less action and the amount of time that the movie gave to character development of the superhero (just like SpiderMan) can only reap benefits (for future box office success). More than half the movie is spent on giving the viewers an idea of how Iron Man came into existence, so that people can connect more with the superhero.

The acting by Robert Downing Jr as the Iron Man is just surprisingly superb. He has the perfect maturity level to go with the comic timing required of the character and does not disappoint a bit. Gwyneth Paltrow acts her part pretty well but the movie could have afforded someone more gorgeous for her role as IronMan’s secretary (love interest?). Terence Howard, as an Army General (I might be wrong!) is awesome and when he and Downing shared screen time, all they did was make the audiences hysterically laugh. The baddies also enacted their role with much efficiency.

I see a lot of people and EVEN critics going gaga over the action/sci-fi scenes but I think they were plain ordinary. Must say I expected better and usually the last fight in such a high budgeted summer action movie is a special effects extravaganza but I cannot say the same about this one. And just like any other Sci-Fi, this one is not without its share of errors. How the heck could an armor be built in a highly supervised cave?

Anyway, Iron Man scores and will probably be the blockbuster leader of 2008 with not much competition to go with. I fully recommend seeing this one and its sequels are bound to better with more action sequences. Forget SpiderMan, it’s time for IRON MAN.

Anyone watched the Orphanage?

"The Orphanage proves the haunted house genre is alive and well - in the right hands." writes a critic.

Since the movie is in Spanish I had to use English subtitle. However, I enjoyed it.

Your comments please if you have watched it?

Kalanki and fellow thread-mates:

Being an avid movie buff, I am pretty much up-to-date on english movies (mostly Hollywood).  But recently I have started watching hindi movies as well.  Unfortunately, most are total crap.  I did like "Chini Kum" very much.  The other day, I watched "Bhoothnath" and found it mildly - make that very mildly - amusing, but I would not recommend it.  These movies were different than your usual romance masala hindis.  So, if you can recommend good hindi movies, I would very much appreciate it.
