When one day cricket was first introuduced everybody thought test cricket was in real danger of losing popularity. Over 35 years from that day, test cricket is still going strong. However, it is the ONE DAY matches which are in real danger of losing popularity. When the 20-20 world cup starts from september-11, it will also mark a new era of cricket. I have been one of the ardent follower of cricket for many years. However, suddenly I have started to like 20-20 more than one day matches. Mainly because almost all the 20-20 matches are very close and most of them are decided in the last over. Many people say 20-20 requires no skill and its only about slogging. However, even this theory have been proved wrong. Now almost all the cricket pundits believe 20-20 is a very skillful cricket. In this day and age when even international one day matches are played in empty stadiums, we have seen even a domestic 20-20 matches are being played in full houses. I for one is a full member of surrey 20-20 matches at the Oval Cricket ground. When the world cup starts at 11th of september, it will also be the BEGINING OF THE END OF ONE DAY MATCHES.

Of course both India and pakistan are not my favourite team. But the final does makes a mouth watering prospect. I still remember how Indian board wrere initially against 20-20 cricket. This tournament must have changed their opinion.

Yeah we have to admit that 20-20 cricket has been quite a success but Gilchrist's comment also needs to be given some thought..he says what is the future of 20-20 cricket in other matches where there is nothing much at stake...hmmm What say quiero??

awards will increase, as more of the 20/20 games will be played. It will overlap One dayers for sure as a main format for the shorter version of the game, and i hope it does. It is more exciting. It's main plus points are :a) it only last for 3 hrs maximum b)More power hitting shots c) spectators enjoy every moment of it. well, 50 overs game, they can get boring around middle of the game when nothing much is happening, whereas for 20 20, most part of the game is exciting. Some may think that a lot of slogging is involved, but not really, it's all about pressure, power and promptly thinking. my conclusion: I would love to see ODI being replaced by 20/20, and Test matches should stay. If one dayers are eliminated, more spectators will follow test cricket as well. This way we will have two extreme formats of the game, shorter format = fast thinker, mostly useful for power hitters and rocket launchers, longer format = players who have good strategy for longer hours and who can last for a long time. This way both formats will be exciting.
