Having initiated so many song threads, it’s literally a shame for me to have taken so long to dedicate a thread to this one of a kind living Nepali today. Quite arguably, he is one of a few persons so many Nepali expatriates can look up to. Having made a name for himself as a singer in the elite Radio Nepal scene, the man could never set a limited horizon for himself. Something inside his heart, I guess, he heard say “Go South, young manâ€.
Udit Narayan’s crucial first break as a Bollywood playback singer was provided by popular musician Rajesh Roshan for the movie Unees Bees (1980). The rookie was forgotten along with the movie in no time. The next movie he could sing for was Bade Dilwala (1982) to R.D. Burman's music. As he was placed directly neck to neck against heavyweights like Kishor Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, he could not garner enough credit personally for the hit song. Quite obviously, any promising singer would be over-shadowed by such legends. But with patience and perseverance, Udit roared back hitting the bull between the eyes with his irresistible number Papa Kehte Hain for the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and has never looked back since.
Here is Udit singing jeevan ke din chhote sahee duet with legendary Lata for the movie Bade Dilwala. The song’s noteworthy lyric goes like:
Jeevan Ke Din Chhote Sahi Hum Bhi Bade Dilwale Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
Jeevan Ke Din Chhote Sahi Hum Bhi Bade Dilwale Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
Jeene Ka Rangeen Mausam Yeh Khoobsurat Zamana Jeene Ka Rangeen Mausam Yeh Khoobsurat Zamana Apne Yehi Chaar Pal Hain Aage Hai Kya Kisne Jaana Jeena Jise Aata Hai Woh In Mein Hi Mauj Mana Le Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
Jeevan Ke Din Chhote Sahi Hum Bhi Bade Dilwale Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
Yeh Zindagi Dard Bhi Hai Yeh Zindagi Hai Dava Bhi Yeh Zindagi Dard Bhi Hai Yeh Zindagi Hai Dava Bhi Dil Todna Hi Na Jaane Jaane Yeh Dil Jodna Bhi Is Zindagi Ka Shukriya Sadke Main Uparwale Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
Jeevan Ke Din Chhote Sahi Hum Bhi Bade Dilwale Kal Ki Humein Fursat Kahan Sochen Jo Hum Matwale Sochen Jo Hum Matwale
This rarely gifted Nepali artist has known no boundaries to entertain music lovers by sharing his one of a kind Godly gift.
Please take a moment to post a song, express a personal opinion, or ponder upon how this man’s success inside and outside Nepal’s periphery is significant to other contemporary industrious Nepalese spread far and wide across the globe. Last but not the least, music, arts, or sports might be the last straw for Nepal as a country to come out of the political crises plaguing our land of eternal peace with such a rich diversity .
You are right!Keri-naath, even Hinduism from India. Why do we still worship those Indian God. Ram and Krishna were also from UP and Bihar. We Nepalese have fake patriotism. We even use that Indian Bikram Sambat. Do anyone so called hypocriteNepalese have their own National Year?
Everyone has a right to live anywhere he likes to and be anyone he prefers to. The very fact that you are born in a country cannot be changed. If you forget where you were born, however rich you are, however talented you are, it's a shame. If you pretend to forget or try to forget where you were born, you have lost everything; shame, pride and soul. That little freaking talent is nothing. Nepal has literally millions of those singers; some are singing loud, others are whispering quietly. Motherland is not a simple thing. Today Nepal is poor, underdeveloped, but I don't think it will remain like that for ever.
why the fu****K you have problem with his personal life? Why is it bad that he says he is Indian? Is he a Nepali diplomat on government's payroll who is supposed to work for Nepal? He's a free citizen at his own and that's his personal taste that he calls himself Indian.
The thread was about his songs, and yes he does sing melodiously and he is has been successful to set the bar high enough for any nepali singers.
Fact of life for every nepali citizen is we can not be separated from India and Indian influence. The state of Nepal doesnt exist,it never existed. We were all indians then and are Indian now and will remain so.State is not a mere demarcation of territories. BP Koirala was such a visionary that he actually wanted nepal to be part of India. We would have been much better if we did.Prachanda and Girija would be in Patna jail, at least we would have a leader in Laloo Yadav who delivers his campaign promises albeit in a wrong ways. Look at the state of Indian railways now. What has your dhaka topi and khukuri earned you? We are living in the stone age when it comes to patriotism,we must hate India and Indians to prove that we are patriots. I havent seen anyone of you condemn the atrocities inflicted on people of nepali origins by Bhutani government. Why? Because he has a thepchey naak? Because he wears docha instead of chappal and dhoti?
Keeri_naath and bme We are not saying Udit Narayan is a traitor and his effigees should be burnt. All we are saying is he is a great singer, but his loyalty towards Nepal is meaningless if he is ashamed to call himself a Nepali. Just saying India is great doesn't make you a non-Nepali. But if you do say I am an Indian, that voids your right to get any patriotic respect from fellow Nepalese. Now, just like the saying that songs have no boundaries, a singer should have no boundary. In that regard he will always remain a respectable singer.
Such a waste of time reading this thread! Sorry guys....who cares......Udit does not care what this thread is all about? Udit hardly gives a dam about what we talk about. He is having a good time and enjoying his life what he likes doing. We all need to fix our brain before we talk about all these shit. Enough is enough! There are people who are dieing just because they could not feed themselves. There are kids whom are roaming around not getting a good education ...who are suppose to be a part of mother Nepal's future. There are homeless who are fighting just to survive a minute of there life. There are people simply dieing just because they are not being able to buy the medicines. There are so many issues to talk about and resolve. Come on people what the hake we all are talking about huh! What sort of education we got in this dam brain...to talk about shit! And shit and shit! If you really are concerned about other people then do me a favor think and try to do something about those people who are in need of. Let us talk about those people who really are in need of talked about. DO WE HAVE ANYTHING TO TALK ABOUT? A CONCREATE TALK? LET US TALK….DON’T TALK SHIT! (Sorry if I offended anyone, which I did not mean but, yes, I’m tired of what we have been talking about)
Doesn't he claim he is from India ? I did not read the thread. But for someone who does not want to admit he Nepali.. I don't see the point honoring him. I understand the desire of some Nepali folks to claim him as Nepali and honor him.... he he but why would you want to humiliate yourselves right at the face our neighbouring country INDIA. They will be laughing their asses off just like when we did the same to TENZING NORGAY.
Tenzing Norgay was born in Nepal and so was Udit Narayan. And they deserve every right and respect a Nepali citizen is bestowed with. What if tomorrow one of our Nepali bretheren abroad gets a major award or achievement (Nobel, etc.), won't we be proud that it's a Nepali who did it rather than his friggin host country? Look at the other thread on Kiran Chetry (and she didn't even live in Nepal for a llong period).
And India laughin their azzez off?? Where da heck did you see this dream, psycho-coffee?? Tenzing Norgay in his autobiography says that he alwasy felt he belong to Nepal but he chose India because of the opportunities his children would receive in this newly independent nation. Nepal during those times was still opressing the matwalalis. Also, as per urban legend, he was offered huge incentives by the Indian govt. to move to India...If Nepal would've done the same, he would've remained in Nepal instead of Darjeeling.
Both of them moved to India for economic causes and for us in the West passing any negative comment shows the utmost hypocrsy in one's character (aka BathroomCoffee, you sick pot-head).
Ha ha ha So lets say your lame ass says you are an Indian citizen tomorrow and move your sakha santaan to India. Then 10yrs down the road lets say you win some big award rey la ! Will you claim that award as Indian or a Nepali ? It depends upon that MORON. If you claimm it as an Indian ....END of story. Yes this Udit dude WAS a Nepali. And yes Tenzing NOrgay WAS Nepali. But your moronic ass needs to look at PRESENT not past. he he You can call me all sorts of names, hurl insults at my family, post a faux picture of me here BUT WHO YOU FOOLIN SON ? ha ha ha AS THEY SAY EMPTY VESSELS DO MAKE A LOTTA NOISE.
Toilet-Coffee, so now that you're living in the US of A, what do you consider yourself? An American? Say yes, and I'll smack the back of yo head so hard that yo eyeballs pop out, fuggin wannabe. You'll still consider yourself Nepali, won't you, damn fool?? Even though I've been here and settled for a while already, I still consider myself a Nepali and Nepal will always be in my first interest. Same as with the Norgay family (as I knew these cats personally...You're talking as though you had the opportunity to visit Tenzing Kothi evey other month like I did. Loser, you'll always remain one...Ya roted book memory is not gonna make you a smart guy, fool).
You gotta quit drinking too much of that shit-filled toliet coffee as thats messing your brains up, Shit for Brains!! hahahaha
I gues this MORON will never be able to think straight. So you went to HMI talks as if he is related. AND WHAT I CONSIDER MYSELF IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. HE HE WHAT YOU CONSEDER YOURSELF IS YOUR PEROGATIVE. I DON'T GIVE A FUG. HA HA
SAME WITH NORGAY FAMILY ? HELL NO !! If you are carrying an INDIAN PASSPORT INSTEAD OF NEPALI. As I said before to your MORONIC ass HE WAS A NEPALI not IS. I gues yer thick numskull cannot comprehend that. ha ha ha
GUYS...ART IS ART PURE FORM ..LET IT BE ART ..DON'T DRAG INTO THE BOUNDARIES OF COUNTRY OR STATE .
Be proud of Amitabh or be proud of Nelly kelly whatever .they are artist .Art has no boundaries , no language, no politics , no citizenship... you love artist 's talents not their citizenship...
I don’t know why Udit Narayan claims to be Indian. May be it is easier to say Indian in his field of work. May be he feels more connected to Indian than Nepal. What ever. That is his business.
But some of you raised the issue which implies that we should consider ourselves Indian since we worship Indian religion. On this matter; look at countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. There are thousand and thousand of people who are Hindus. Granted Hinduism originated in India. That doesn’t mean we have to consider ourselves Indian. Also, in every country, Hinduism is practiced differently. So being Hindu and being Indian is totally different issue.
When we live so close to such a huge country with so much cultural influence, it is hard for us to keep our own identity. This is true for many other countries. Look at Ireland being next to England. Just to keep our little identity as Nepalese, we even have time difference of 15 minutes to India. I greatly admire Indian culture. But that doesn’t mean I am going to go out of my way to say I am Indian. May be Nepal is poor, may be Nepal is backward, what ever… But that is the only country I have to call my own. So instead of saying Nepal is India we should acknowledge Nepal is heavily influenced by India.
